## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

## Hiring Signals Scanner — Company Job Openings (Greenhouse & Lever)

Scan a list of companies and find out **who is hiring, how hard, and for what** — from their public Greenhouse and Lever job boards. Hiring is the most honest growth signal a company broadcasts: teams that are expanding buy tools, services and talent.

For each company you get a **signal summary** (open-job count, top departments, top locations, a none/low/medium/high hiring level) plus, optionally, **every individual job posting** with title, location and URL.

Built for **B2B sales prospecting** (time your outreach to growth), **recruiting intel**, **competitor watch** and **AI sales agents**.

### What you get

One summary row per company:

```json
{
  "recordType": "signal",
  "company": "cloudflare",
  "found": true,
  "source": "greenhouse",
  "boardUrl": "https://boards.greenhouse.io/cloudflare",
  "openJobs": 306,
  "hiringSignal": "high",
  "topLocations": ["Hybrid", "Remote US", "London"],
  "topDepartments": [],
  "error": null
}
```

Plus job rows (optional):

```json
{
  "recordType": "job",
  "company": "spotify",
  "source": "lever",
  "title": "Advertiser Solutions Vendor Lead",
  "department": "Advertising",
  "location": "London",
  "url": "https://jobs.lever.co/spotify/890b2c0f",
  "publishedAt": "2026-07-20T22:29:59.619Z"
}
```

| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
| `hiringSignal` | none (0 jobs) · low (1–4) · medium (5–19) · high (20+) |
| `openJobs` | Total open roles on the board |
| `topLocations` / `topDepartments` | Where the growth is concentrated |
| `source` | Which ATS answered (greenhouse or lever) |
| `boardUrl` | The public board, for a human double-check |

### How to use it

1. List companies in **companies** — board slugs (`cloudflare`, `spotify`) work best; plain names are tried as slug variants automatically.
2. Toggle **Include individual job postings** off if you only want the summaries.
3. Run, export, or plug into your outreach pipeline via API. Use the two dataset views (**Hiring signals** / **Job postings**) to grab exactly the table you need.

### Pricing

Small start fee + a fee per **company scanned** (found or not — the answer "not hiring on these ATS" is a signal too). Job rows cost nothing extra.

| Scenario | Approximate cost |
|---|---|
| 50 companies | ~US$ 0.51 |
| 100 companies | ~US$ 1.01 |
| 300 companies (max per run) | ~US$ 3.01 |

### FAQ

**Where does the data come from?**
From each company's own public job board APIs (Greenhouse and Lever) — data the companies publish on purpose to be seen. No login, no scraping tricks.

**What if a company uses another ATS (Workday, Ashby…)?**
Then `found` comes back `false` for it. Greenhouse and Lever cover a large share of tech and scale-up companies; other ATS may be added later.

**How do I turn this into sales outreach?**
Filter `hiringSignal` = medium/high, look at `topDepartments` — a company stacking sales roles buys sales tooling; one stacking engineers buys dev infrastructure. Reference the specific roles in your first line.

### Honest limitations

- Company-name → slug guessing is heuristic; when in doubt, pass the exact board slug (it's in the URL of their careers page).
- Greenhouse's public board API doesn't expose departments — `topDepartments` fills from Lever boards.
