## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

## SEC EDGAR Filings Scraper — 10-K, 10-Q, 8-K by Ticker

Get the **latest SEC filings for any US public company** straight from the official EDGAR system. Send tickers (AAPL, NVDA) or CIK numbers, choose which forms you care about (10-K, 10-Q, 8-K, S-1, 4, 13F…) and receive a clean dataset with filing dates, accession numbers and **direct links to the documents**.

Built for **equity research, compliance monitoring, quant pipelines and AI agents** that need "what did this company just file?" as structured data instead of a website.

### What you get

Real output example:

```json
{
  "company": "AAPL",
  "found": true,
  "ticker": "AAPL",
  "cik": "0000320193",
  "entityName": "Apple Inc.",
  "form": "10-Q",
  "filingDate": "2026-08-13",
  "reportDate": "2026-08-11",
  "accessionNumber": "0001140361-26-032884",
  "primaryDocument": "aapl-20260811.htm",
  "documentUrl": "https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/320193/000114036126032884/aapl-20260811.htm",
  "description": "FORM 10-Q",
  "size": 4636,
  "isXBRL": false,
  "error": null
}
```

| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
| `form` | Filing type (10-K annual, 10-Q quarterly, 8-K current event…) |
| `filingDate` / `reportDate` | When it was filed / the period it covers |
| `documentUrl` | Direct link to the primary document on sec.gov |
| `accessionNumber` | The filing's unique EDGAR identifier |
| `entityName` / `cik` | Official registrant name and CIK |
| `isXBRL` | Whether structured XBRL data is attached |

### How to use it

1. Add tickers or CIK numbers to **companies**.
2. Pick **form types** (leave empty for everything).
3. Set **max filings per company** (newest first).
4. Run, export, or wire it into your research pipeline via API. Runs great on a daily schedule for filing alerts.

### Pricing

Small start fee + a small fee per **filing returned**.

| Scenario | Approximate cost |
|---|---|
| 10 companies × 20 filings | ~US$ 0.41 |
| 50 companies × 20 filings | ~US$ 2.01 |
| 200 companies × 50 filings | ~US$ 20.01 |

### FAQ

**Is this official data?**
Yes — it reads EDGAR's own public JSON endpoints, following the SEC's published fair-access rules (identified requests, throttled). No scraping of HTML pages.

**How fresh is it?**
EDGAR publishes filings within seconds of acceptance; each run returns the most recent ones first.

**Can I monitor filings automatically?**
Yes — schedule the actor (e.g. hourly with `8-K` only) and consume the dataset diff downstream, or let an AI agent call it via MCP.

### Honest limitations

- Covers SEC registrants (US-listed companies and foreign issuers that file with the SEC) — private companies don't file with EDGAR.
- `reportDate` is empty for some form types; that's how EDGAR reports it.
