## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Apple App Store Scraper – Apps, Ratings, Prices & Top Charts

**Apple App Store Scraper** extracts app data from the **Apple App Store** (iPhone, iPad and Mac) for any of the **175 App Store countries**. It can:

- run **App Store keyword searches** and record each app's search position, which is useful for ASO keyword ranking;
- **look up apps** by App Store ID, URL or bundle ID;
- list **every app a developer has published**;
- scrape the **top charts** (Top Free, Top Paid, Top Grossing and New apps), optionally for a single category.

Each result is one row per app with the name, developer, **price and currency**, **rating and rating count**, version, release and update dates, size, minimum iOS version, languages, age rating, genres, icon, screenshots and App Store URL.

All data comes from **Apple's own public endpoints**: the official [iTunes Search & Lookup API](https://performance-partners.apple.com/search-api) and the public App Store RSS top-chart feeds. The Actor needs no login, cookies, proxies or browser. It also keeps to Apple's documented limit of about 20 calls per minute.

> Need **reviews** as well? Use our companion Actor, [App Store Review Monitor](https://apify.com/gazidev/app-store-review-monitor). It pulls new App Store reviews for any app from every country and can alert you to 1★ and 2★ reviews.

### What you can use it for

- **ASO keyword research.** See which apps rank for "budget", "habit tracker" or "vpn" in the US, UK, Germany, Japan or any other storefront. `searchPosition` is the rank. Schedule the run daily to track your own ranking.
- **Competitor research.** Put a competitor's developer ID in and get its whole portfolio with ratings, rating counts, prices and update dates for every app.
- **Top chart tracking.** Get daily snapshots of Top Free, Top Paid and Top Grossing, overall or per category (Games, Finance, Health & Fitness and so on), in as many countries as you like.
- **Price intelligence.** Compare an app's price in local currency across 175 storefronts.
- **Market sizing and lead generation.** Find every app in a niche together with its developer, seller website and rating volume.
- **App catalog enrichment.** Turn a list of bundle IDs or App Store URLs into clean, structured metadata for your database, BI tool or LLM pipeline.

### Why this Actor

| | Apple App Store Scraper | Typical App Store scrapers |
|---|---|---|
| Modes | Search, lookup (ID, URL or bundle ID), developer portfolio and top charts, **combined in one run** | Often one mode per run |
| Countries | Any list, `TOP30` or `ALL` (175 storefronts) in one run | Often one per run |
| Search rank (ASO) | `searchPosition` on every search result | Rarely |
| Chart rank | `chartRank` plus full app details for every chart entry | Often only the chart's own short fields |
| Data source | Apple's official public Search/Lookup API and RSS | Often scraped HTML |
| Price | **$0.80 per 1,000 apps**, with no start fee | $3.45 per 1,000 plus $0.005 per run (market leader, free tier) |

### How to use it

1. Fill in any combination of **Search terms**, **Apps**, **Developers** and **Top charts**.
2. Choose **Countries**, for example `us`, `gb`, `de`, `tr`, `jp`, `TOP30` or `ALL`.
3. Optionally pick a **chart category**, the **platform** (iPhone, iPad or Mac) and whether to include **descriptions** and **release notes**.
4. Click **Start**. The default input searches "budget" in the US and scrapes the US Top Free chart, which gives about 150 apps in a few seconds.
5. Download the results as JSON, CSV or Excel, or connect them to Google Sheets, Slack, Make, Zapier or n8n. You can also **schedule** the run to track ranks over time.

The dataset has two table views, **Overview** and **Details**. A run summary with counts and warnings is saved as `SUMMARY` in the key-value store.

### Pricing

This Actor uses **pay-per-event** pricing:

| Event | Price |
|---|---|
| App result (one row) | **$0.0008**, which is **$0.80 per 1,000 apps** |
| Actor start | $0.00005 |

Some example costs:

- Search "budget" plus the US Top Free chart (about 150 apps): about **$0.12**.
- Top 100 Grossing in 30 countries (3,000 apps): about **$2.40**.

You can set a **maximum cost per run**. The Actor stops cleanly when it reaches that amount, and you are never charged for apps that are not found.

How that compares with other Apify Store actors (public prices, September 2026):

| Actor | Price per 1,000 apps | Start fee |
|---|---|---|
| **This Actor** | **$0.80** | ~$0 |
| automation-lab/apple-app-store-scraper (free tier) | $3.45 | $0.005 |
| jdtpnjtp/apple-app-store-scraper | $3.00 app info / $1.25 search results | $0.01 |
| brilliant\_gum/google-play-app-store-scraper | $10 app details / $4 search results | $0.001 |
| epctex/appstore-scraper | $0.10 per item + $0.005 per search query / $0.0003 per app query | none |

### Use with AI agents (Apify MCP)

This Actor works well as a tool for AI agents. Add it to Claude, Cursor or any MCP client through the [Apify MCP server](https://mcp.apify.com), for example `https://mcp.apify.com?actors=gazidev/app-store-scraper`. The agent can then answer prompts such as:

- "Which budgeting apps rank in the top 10 for 'budget' in the US and UK, and what are their ratings?"
- "List every app from this developer with its rating count and last update date."
- "Show me today's Top Grossing Finance apps in Germany."

The input is plain JSON and every field is documented, so an agent can call the Actor with no setup.

### FAQ

**Where does the data come from?** From Apple's public iTunes Search API and Lookup API and the App Store RSS top charts. These are the same public endpoints Apple provides for affiliates and developers. The Actor does no HTML scraping and uses no private APIs.

**How fast is it?** Apple asks for roughly 20 API calls per minute, and the Actor throttles itself to that. One call returns up to 200 search results, up to 100 looked-up apps or a whole chart, so most runs finish in seconds. Runs over many countries take about 3 seconds per call.

**Why do `rating` and `ratingCurrentVersion` often match?** Apple's API now returns the same aggregate for both fields for most apps. We output both exactly as Apple returns them.

**How many results can I get?** Up to 200 per search term per country, up to 100 per chart per country, and every app of a developer (up to 200). Add more countries or terms to get more.

**Does it return reviews?** No. For reviews use [App Store Review Monitor](https://apify.com/gazidev/app-store-review-monitor).

**Does it cover Google Play?** No. This Actor covers the Apple App Store only.

**Why are some apps missing in some countries?** Not every app is sold in every storefront. Missing apps are listed under warnings in `SUMMARY`, and you are not charged for them.

**Is it legal?** The Actor only reads public data that Apple publishes through its own public API and feeds, and it respects Apple's documented rate limit. App names, icons and screenshots belong to their owners. Use the data for research and analysis, and follow Apple's terms if you republish it.

# Actor input Schema

## `searchTerms` (type: `array`):

Keywords to search on the App Store, e.g. "budget", "habit tracker". Results come in App Store search order, so `searchPosition` is the keyword rank (ASO). Uses Apple's official iTunes Search API.

## `apps` (type: `array`):

Get full details for specific apps: App Store URLs (https://apps.apple.com/us/app/duolingo-language-lessons/id570060128), numeric IDs (570060128) or bundle IDs (com.duolingo.DuolingoMobile).

## `developers` (type: `array`):

Developer IDs (284882218) or developer page URLs (https://apps.apple.com/us/developer/meta-platforms-inc/id284882218). Returns every app of each developer.

## `charts` (type: `array`):

App Store top charts to scrape (up to 100 apps each, with chart rank). Each app gets full details from the Lookup API.

## `chartGenre` (type: `string`):

Limit top charts to one App Store category (iPhone and iPad top free/paid/grossing). Not supported by Apple for New-apps and Mac charts.

## `countries` (type: `array`):

Two-letter codes, e.g. us, gb, de, tr, jp. "TOP30" = 30 biggest markets, "ALL" = all 175 storefronts. Every search, lookup, developer and chart is run in each country (prices, ratings and charts differ per storefront).

## `platform` (type: `string`):

Which apps search and developer modes return. Charts pick the platform by chart type; lookups return any platform.

## `maxSearchResults` (type: `integer`):

Apple's Search API returns up to 200.

## `maxChartResults` (type: `integer`):

Apple's charts expose up to 100 apps.

## `includeDescription` (type: `boolean`):

Adds the App Store description text (long) to each row.

## `includeReleaseNotes` (type: `boolean`):

Adds the latest version's release notes to each row.

## `maxItems` (type: `integer`):

Hard cap on rows (and cost) per run. The run also stops cleanly at your maximum cost per run.

## `maxRequestsPerMinute` (type: `integer`):

Advanced. Apple documents roughly 20 calls per minute for the Search API; the Actor never goes above 20.
