## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## ClinicalTrials.gov Scraper – Clinical Trials Search, Export & Monitor

Search and export studies from **ClinicalTrials.gov** (500,000+ clinical trials and observational studies) by **condition, drug or intervention, sponsor, location, recruitment status, phase and study type**, or look up **NCT IDs** in bulk. Each row is one study with sponsor, phase, enrollment, key dates, conditions, interventions, primary outcomes, eligibility, **central contact (name, email, phone)**, principal investigator and **study sites with their contacts**.

- **Official ClinicalTrials.gov API v2** (U.S. National Library of Medicine). No browser, no login, no API key.
- **Monitoring mode:** schedule it and get only **new or updated** studies (`changeType: new / updated`) – a ready-made trial alert for a disease, drug or competitor.
- **$1 per 1,000 studies.** Not-found NCT IDs and unchanged studies are free.

### What can I use it for?

- **Pharma & biotech competitive intelligence:** every phase 2/3 trial for a drug class, with sponsor, enrollment and completion dates.
- **CRO / site business development:** recruiting studies in your country or city, with sponsor and central contact emails.
- **Patient recruitment and advocacy:** recruiting trials for a condition near a location, with site contacts.
- **Investors and analysts:** pipeline tracking by sponsor; alerts when a study changes status.
- **Research and AI datasets:** structured study metadata for analysis or RAG.

### FAQ

**Is the data public?** Yes. ClinicalTrials.gov is run by the U.S. National Library of Medicine and its API is free and public. Contacts are those published by sponsors on the study record.

**How fresh is it?** The API serves the live registry. `lastUpdated` is the date of the latest change to the record.

**How does monitoring work?** With `onlyNew`, the Actor stores each study's last-update date under your `stateKey` in the named key-value store `clinical-trials-search-state`. Next time, only new studies and studies with a newer update date are returned and charged.

**Does it include results data?** `hasResults` tells you whether results are posted; the full results section is not exported.

### Use with AI agents / Apify MCP

Add the Actor to the Apify MCP server (`mcp.apify.com`) and ask: *"list recruiting phase 3 trials for Alzheimer's in Germany with sponsor contacts"*.
