## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Federal Register Monitor – New Rules, Proposed Rules & EOs

Track **new US federal regulations** as they are published: final rules, proposed rules (with comment deadlines), agency notices and presidential documents (executive orders, proclamations, memoranda). Data comes from the official **FederalRegister.gov API** (Office of the Federal Register / GPO). No key, no login.

Built for **compliance teams, lawyers, lobbyists, trade associations, consultants and journalists** who need a daily feed of rules affecting their industry, plus AI/RAG pipelines that need clean regulatory text.

**$2 per 1,000 documents.**

### Features

- Filter by **search term**, **document type**, **agency** (names or slugs), **publication date**, **significant rules (EO 12866)**, **open comment periods**, **CFR title/part** and **docket ID**.
- Each document: title, type, agencies, action, abstract, dates text, effective date, **comment deadline**, comment and Regulations.gov links, docket IDs, RINs, CFR parts affected, significance, topics, citation, executive order number, signing date, HTML and PDF links.
- Optional **full text** (plain text from the official GPO copy on govinfo.gov).
- **Monitoring:** turn on *Only new documents* and schedule the Actor daily.

### Input examples

EPA proposed rules still open for comment:

```json
{
  "agencies": ["Environmental Protection Agency"],
  "documentTypes": ["proposed-rule"],
  "publishedWithinDays": 60,
  "openForCommentOnly": true
}
```

Everything mentioning PFAS in the last 30 days, with full text:

```json
{ "searchTerm": "PFAS", "publishedWithinDays": 30, "includeFullText": true }
```

Executive orders and other presidential documents:

```json
{ "documentTypes": ["presidential"], "publishedWithinDays": 90 }
```

Rules affecting 21 CFR part 101 (food labeling):

```json
{ "cfrTitle": 21, "cfrPart": "101", "publishedWithinDays": 365 }
```

### Output

```json
{
  "documentNumber": "2026-21383",
  "title": "New Source Performance Standards and National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants; Delegation of Authority to Northwest Clean Air Agency, Washington State",
  "type": "Proposed Rule",
  "agencies": ["Environmental Protection Agency"],
  "action": "Proposed rule.",
  "abstract": "The Northwest Clean Air Agency (NWCAA), located in Washington State, submitted updated regulations ...",
  "publicationDate": "2026-10-19",
  "commentsCloseDate": "2026-11-18",
  "regulationsGovUrl": "http://www.regulations.gov/commenton/EPA-R10-OAR-2026-4291-0013",
  "docketIds": ["EPA-R10-OAR-2026-4291, FRL-13409-01-R10"],
  "url": "https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2026/10/19/2026-21383/...",
  "pdfUrl": "https://www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg/FR-2026-10-19/pdf/2026-21383.pdf"
}
```

Fields without a value are omitted. Presidential documents add `subtype`, `signingDate`, `executiveOrderNumber` and `president`.

### Notes

- The Federal Register is published every federal business day. A search returns at most 10,000 documents; use narrower dates or filters for bigger exports.
- The Federal Register is the official daily publication, but only the official PDF/print edition has legal effect. Check the official version before relying on a document.

### Pricing

Pay per event: **$0.002 per document saved** ($2 per 1,000), plus a tiny start fee. Full text is included at no extra charge. Set **Max documents** or a maximum cost per run.

### Data source and terms

Federal Register content is US government work in the public domain, provided by the Office of the Federal Register (National Archives) and the Government Publishing Office through FederalRegister.gov and govinfo.gov. This Actor is not affiliated with or endorsed by them.
