## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## FMCSA Carrier Search – Trucking Leads, USDOT & MC Data

Search the **official FMCSA motor carrier census** (every USDOT-registered trucking company, bus operator and freight forwarder in the US) and export clean lead lists. Filter **new carriers by registration date**, state, city or ZIP, for-hire or private, interstate or intrastate, **fleet size**, drivers, **cargo hauled** and hazmat. Or paste USDOT / MC numbers to look carriers up in bulk. Every row has the **phone, email, company officers, address, power units, drivers, cargo classes, MC number**, safety rating and, where FMCSA publishes it, **operating authority (common / contract / broker) and liability insurance on file**.

- **$2 per 1,000 carriers**, 2.5× cheaper than the most-used FMCSA scraper on the Store. Runs with no match cost nothing.
- **Fresh new-authority leads.** The census is updated by FMCSA every day; filter *Registered in the last N days* to get carriers that registered this week.
- **Official open data, no scraping.** Data comes from the U.S. DOT open-data portal (data.transportation.gov). No SAFER page scraping, no API key, no browser, no captcha.
- **Fast.** 1,000 carriers per request; 10,000 leads take well under a minute.

### What can I use it for?

- **Sales leads for trucking services:** insurance agents, factoring companies, ELD and dispatch software, fuel cards, truck dealers and leasing, IFTA/permit services, compliance consultants. New carriers need all of these in their first months.
- **Freight brokers:** build a carrier list by state, equipment/cargo (refrigerated, flatbed-type cargo, hazmat) and fleet size.
- **Carrier vetting / KYB:** bulk-check USDOT or MC numbers for active status, authority, insurance on file and safety rating.
- **Market research:** count new for-hire carriers per state per month, fleet-size distribution, hazmat share.
- **AI agents:** a *"find small refrigerated carriers in Georgia registered this month"* tool (see below).

Competitor figures are from the Apify Store on 2026-10-06. Example: every new active for-hire carrier in Texas in the last 30 days (1,271 on 2026-10-06) costs about **$2.54**. Set *Maximum cost per run* to cap spending; the run stops cleanly at the limit.

### FAQ

**How fresh is the data?** FMCSA refreshes the census file on data.transportation.gov daily; carriers usually appear a day or two after they get a USDOT number. Authority and insurance data come from a separate FMCSA file that can lag a few weeks for brand-new registrations, so those fields may be empty for the newest carriers.

**Why do some carriers have no MC number?** Intrastate and private carriers do not need operating authority. Since 2025 FMCSA is moving to USDOT-number-only identification, so very new carriers may only have a USDOT number.

**Is the email address always present?** Almost always for new carriers (12,294 of 12,295 carriers registered in the 30 days before 2026-10-06 have one). Across all 2.2 million active carriers about 73% have an email. Use *Only carriers with an email address* to skip the rest.

**Is this legal?** The data is published by the U.S. Department of Transportation as public open data (public domain) for anyone to use. This Actor only queries that official API. If you contact carriers, follow the rules that apply to you (CAN-SPAM, TCPA for phone/SMS, GDPR where relevant) and honour opt-outs. Questions: iletisim.ortalamabiri@gmail.com.

**Can I get more than 200,000 rows?** Split the run by state or date range.

### Use with AI agents / Apify MCP

Ask *"list 50 new for-hire carriers in Georgia with 2–10 trucks that haul refrigerated food"* or *"is USDOT 80806 authorised as a broker and insured?"*. Through the [Apify MCP server](https://mcp.apify.com) (`https://mcp.apify.com?actors=gazidev/fmcsa-carrier-leads`), Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and other MCP clients can call it directly. Over the API: `POST https://api.apify.com/v2/acts/gazidev~fmcsa-carrier-leads/run-sync-get-dataset-items`.
