## Pricing

from $1.50 / 1,000 domain checkeds

This Actor is paid per event. You are not charged for the Apify platform usage, but only a fixed price for specific events.

## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

## Bulk Domain Availability Checker & RDAP WHOIS Lookup

Check hundreds of domain names at once and see which are **available** and which are **registered**. For registered domains you also get the registrar, creation and expiry dates, domain age, EPP status codes, nameservers and DNSSEC.

The Actor asks each registry's **official RDAP server**. RDAP is the standard that replaced WHOIS. It finds the right server for every TLD from the [IANA RDAP bootstrap file](https://data.iana.org/rdap/dns.json), so it uses no scraping, no proxies and no third-party APIs.

### Why use it

- **Bulk and fast.** It checks about 25 domains in under 10 seconds, with at most 4 parallel requests to any one registry.
- **Name × TLD generator.** Enter `names: [acme, getacme]` and `tlds: [com, io, ai, dev]` to check all 8 combinations.
- **Official sources.** Results come from the registries for .com, .net, .org, .ai, .app, .dev, .xyz, .uk, .fr, .nl, .ca, .au, .in and about 1,200 other TLDs. .io, .me, .sh, .ac and .de are also covered.
- **DNS fallback.** For TLDs with no public RDAP server (e.g. .co, .eu, .il), the Actor checks DNS over HTTPS. Those rows are marked `method: "dns"`.
- **No personal data.** Registrant, admin and tech contacts are never returned. You get only registry-level facts.
- **Failed checks are free.** Invalid names and lookups that fail are listed as `error`/`unknown` rows, and you are not charged for them.

### Input example

```json
{
  "domains": ["google.com", "https://www.bbc.co.uk/news", "bücher.de"],
  "names": ["acme", "getacme"],
  "tlds": ["com", "io", "ai", "dev"],
  "onlyAvailable": false
}
```

- `domains` takes full domain names or URLs. `www.` and paths are removed, and internationalised names are converted to punycode.
- `names` + `tlds` generates combinations. If `tlds` is empty, `.com` is used.
- `onlyAvailable: true` leaves registered domains out of the dataset. Each completed check is still counted.
- `maxDomains` and `concurrency` are optional limits.

### Output

There is one item per domain:

```json
{
  "input": "google.com",
  "domain": "google.com",
  "tld": "com",
  "status": "registered",
  "available": false,
  "method": "rdap",
  "registrar": "MarkMonitor Inc.",
  "registrarIanaId": "292",
  "registrarUrl": null,
  "createdAt": "1997-09-15T04:00:00.000Z",
  "expiresAt": "2028-09-14T04:00:00.000Z",
  "updatedAt": "2019-09-09T15:39:04.000Z",
  "ageDays": 10635,
  "daysToExpiry": 686,
  "statusCodes": [
    "client delete prohibited",
    "client transfer prohibited",
    "client update prohibited",
    "server delete prohibited",
    "server transfer prohibited",
    "server update prohibited"
  ],
  "nameservers": [
    "ns1.google.com",
    "ns2.google.com",
    "ns3.google.com",
    "ns4.google.com"
  ],
  "dnssec": false,
  "rdapServer": "https://rdap.verisign.com/com/v1/",
  "note": null,
  "domainUnicode": null,
  "checkedAt": "2026-10-28T14:22:41.435Z",
  "error": null
}
```

`status` takes one of these values:

| status | meaning |
|---|---|
| `available` | The registry's RDAP server has no record of the domain (HTTP 404). |
| `registered` | The registry has a record, or for DNS checks, the domain resolves. |
| `likely-available` | The TLD has no RDAP server and the domain does not exist in DNS. This usually means it is free, but it is not guaranteed. |
| `unknown` / `error` | The lookup failed or the input is invalid. These rows are not charged. |

A `SUMMARY` record in the key-value store gives the counts per status.

### Pricing

Pricing is pay per event: a small Actor-start fee plus a fee per domain checked. `error` and `unknown` rows are free. Set *Maximum cost per run* and the Actor stops cleanly at that limit. See the Pricing tab.

### Limits and honest notes

- "Available" means *not registered*. Premium names, reserved names or names blocked by the registry may still not be purchasable at the standard price. Confirm with your registrar before you buy.
- Some registries rate-limit RDAP. The Actor retries with backoff. If a registry keeps refusing, the domain is returned as an `error` row (free).
- Some ccTLDs return fewer fields. For example, DENIC (.de) shows no registrar or dates.
- Registries publish their data through RDAP for public lookup. Use the results in line with each registry's terms and applicable law. Bulk lookups are meant for checking names, not for building registrant databases.

# Actor input Schema

## `domains` (type: `array`):

Full domain names or URLs, one per line (e.g. example.com, https://www.shop.co.uk/page). 'www.' and paths are stripped. Internationalised names (bücher.de) are supported.

## `names` (type: `array`):

Base names (without TLD). Each name is combined with every TLD below, e.g. names \[acme, getacme] × TLDs \[com, io, ai] = 6 domains.

## `tlds` (type: `array`):

TLDs to combine with the names above, e.g. com, net, org, io, ai, dev, app, co.uk. If empty, .com is used.

## `onlyAvailable` (type: `boolean`):

Skip registered domains in the dataset. Every completed check is still counted for pricing.

## `dnsFallback` (type: `boolean`):

For TLDs without a public RDAP server (e.g. .co, .eu, .il), check DNS instead. Such results are marked method = dns and status 'registered' or 'likely-available'.

## `maxDomains` (type: `integer`):

Check at most this many domains. 0 = no limit.

## `concurrency` (type: `integer`):

How many domains to check at the same time (max 25). At most 4 requests at a time go to the same registry.

## Actor input object example

```json
    "google.com",
    "my-unregistered-startup-name-2026.com",
    "example.io"
  ],
  "tlds": [
    "com",
    "net",
    "org",
    "io",
    "ai"
  ],
  "onlyAvailable": false,
  "dnsFallback": true,
  "maxDomains": 0,
  "concurrency": 10
}
```

# Actor output Schema

## `overview` (type: `string`):

All domain results in the default dataset, shown with the 'overview' table view.
