## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Bulk Redirect Checker: Full Redirect Chains & Status Codes

Paste a list of URLs and get the **complete redirect chain for each one**: every hop with its status code (301, 302, 303, 307, 308 and HTML meta refresh), the final URL and final status, redirect loops, HTTP → HTTPS upgrades and total time.

**$0.30 per 1,000 URLs** ($0.0003 each). Invalid URLs are free.

### Why use it

- **Site migrations**: give `old-url, expected-new-url` pairs and get a `matchesExpected` true/false for each line
- **SEO audits**: find redirect chains (more than one hop), temporary 302s that should be 301s, loops and redirects to 404s
- **Link checking**: see where short links, affiliate links and old backlinks really land
- **Bot vs. mobile**: check as Desktop Chrome, iPhone Safari or Googlebot

### Input

| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| `urls` | One per line. `old, new` or `old -> new` adds an expected target |
| `maxRedirects` | Max hops to follow (default 10) |
| `followMetaRefresh` | Follow `<meta http-equiv="refresh">` (default on) |
| `userAgent` | `desktop`, `mobile` or `googlebot` |
| `timeoutSecs`, `concurrency` | Speed controls |

URLs without a scheme are checked as `https://`. Write `http://` explicitly to test the HTTP → HTTPS redirect.

### Output

```json
{
  "url": "http://github.com/",
  "finalUrl": "https://github.com/",
  "finalStatusCode": 200,
  "redirectCount": 1,
  "redirectCodes": "301",
  "isRedirected": true,
  "hasPermanentRedirectOnly": true,
  "redirectLoop": false,
  "httpsUpgrade": true,
  "expectedUrl": null,
  "matchesExpected": null,
  "totalTimeMs": 182,
  "chain": [
    { "url": "http://github.com/", "statusCode": 301, "location": "https://github.com/", "type": "301", "server": "...", "timeMs": 60 },
    { "url": "https://github.com/", "statusCode": 200, "location": null, "type": null, "server": "github.com", "timeMs": 122 }
  ],
  "error": null
}
```

`error` is set for loops, network errors, too many redirects or a final 4xx/5xx status, so you can filter problems at once. Export to JSON, CSV or Excel, or use the API.

### Notes

- Only HTTP and HTML meta-refresh redirects are followed; JavaScript redirects are not executed.
- Requests are lightweight (no page rendering), so large lists finish quickly.

# Actor input Schema

## `urls` (type: `array`):

URLs to check, one per line. To validate a migration, write 'old-url, expected-new-url' (or 'old -> new') on a line; the result shows whether the final URL matches.

## `maxRedirects` (type: `integer`):

Stop following after this many hops (1-30).

## `followMetaRefresh` (type: `boolean`):

Also follow HTML <meta http-equiv="refresh"> redirects.

## `userAgent` (type: `string`):

Browser identity used for requests (some sites redirect mobile or bots differently).

## `timeoutSecs` (type: `integer`):

Seconds to wait for each hop.

## `concurrency` (type: `integer`):

How many URLs to check at once (1-50).
