## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## SEO Audit Crawler: on-page SEO checker for whole websites

Crawl any website and get an **on-page SEO audit for every page**: titles, meta descriptions, headings, canonicals, indexability, hreflang, Open Graph, structured data, image alt text, word count, broken pages, redirects, mixed content and more, with a **0–100 score and a prioritised list of issues per page**, plus a **site-wide report** of duplicates and the most common problems. No browser, no login, no API keys.

**Price:** **$2 per 1,000 pages audited** ($0.002 per page) plus a tiny start fee. Pages that fail to load because of network errors and invalid inputs are free. Similar tools charge $10–40 per 1,000 pages.

### What it checks on every page

| Area | Checks |
|---|---|
| **Titles & descriptions** | Missing, too short or too long (character counts), duplicated across the site |
| **Headings** | Missing H1, multiple H1s, H1/H2/H3 counts and the H1 text |
| **Indexability** | Status code, `noindex` in meta robots or `X-Robots-Tag`, canonical tag (missing, self or pointing elsewhere) |
| **Internationalisation** | `lang` attribute, hreflang alternates |
| **Social & rich results** | Open Graph and Twitter Card tags, JSON-LD types (Article, Product, FAQPage…), microdata |
| **Content** | Word count, thin content, images missing `alt` |
| **Links** | Internal, external and nofollow link counts |
| **Technical** | HTTPS, mixed content, redirect chains, response time, page size, viewport, charset |

Each issue has a **severity** (high / medium / low) and a plain-English message. The page **score** starts at 100 and loses 15 / 7 / 3 points per high / medium / low issue.

### Site report

The key-value store record **REPORT** summarises each site: pages crawled, average score, broken pages, **duplicate titles and descriptions** (with the pages that share them) and issue counts by check, so you can fix the biggest problems first.

### Input examples

Audit a site (up to 100 pages):

```json
{ "startUrls": ["https://example.com"] }
```

Audit only the blog, and save only pages with medium or high issues:

```json
{ "startUrls": ["https://example.com/blog/"], "includePatterns": ["/blog/*"], "onlyPagesWithIssues": true, "minSeverity": "medium" }
```

Audit many sites, 20 pages each:

```json
{ "startUrlsText": "example.com\nexample.org\nexample.net", "maxPagesPerSite": 20 }
```

### Output (one row per page)

| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| `url`, `finalUrl`, `statusCode`, `depth`, `foundOn` | Page and how it was reached |
| `score`, `issueCount`, `issues` | 0–100 score and the list of `{ severity, check, message }` |
| `title`, `titleLength`, `metaDescription`, `metaDescriptionLength` | Snippet data |
| `h1`, `h1Count`, `h2Count`, `h3Count` | Headings |
| `canonical`, `canonicalIsSelf`, `metaRobots`, `xRobotsTag`, `indexable` | Indexability |
| `lang`, `viewport`, `charset`, `hreflang`, `ogTitle`, `ogDescription`, `ogImage`, `twitterCard`, `structuredDataTypes`, `hasMicrodata` | Markup |
| `wordCount`, `imageCount`, `imagesMissingAlt` | Content |
| `internalLinks`, `externalLinks`, `nofollowLinks` | Links |
| `https`, `mixedContent`, `redirected`, `redirectChain`, `responseTimeMs`, `sizeBytes`, `contentType` | Technical |

Use `onlyPagesWithIssues` to keep the dataset short. Filtered pages are not saved and **not charged**.

### Cost examples

- 50-page site: **$0.10**
- 1,000 pages: **$2.00**
- Set **Max pages** or a maximum cost per run to stay within any budget; the Actor stops cleanly at the limit.

### FAQ

**Does it render JavaScript?** No. It audits the HTML your server returns, which is what search engines index first. That keeps it fast and cheap.

**Does it respect robots.txt?** Yes, by default (including crawl-delay). Pages blocked by robots.txt are counted in the report.

**How fast is it?** Typically 5–20 pages per second, depending on the site.

**Is it legal?** It reads public pages like a search engine. Only audit sites you are allowed to crawl.

# Actor input Schema

## `startUrls` (type: `array`):

One website or start page per line, e.g. https://example.com. Each one is crawled separately, following internal links.

## `startUrlsText` (type: `string`):

Paste many websites separated by new lines, spaces or commas.

## `maxPagesPerSite` (type: `integer`):

How many pages to audit on each website.

## `maxPagesTotal` (type: `integer`):

0 = no limit.

## `maxDepth` (type: `integer`):

How many clicks away from the start page to go. 0 = audit only the start pages.

## `includeSubdomains` (type: `boolean`):

Also crawl blog.example.com, docs.example.com and so on.

## `includePatterns` (type: `array`):

Optional. Only crawl URLs containing one of these patterns (\* is a wildcard, /regex/ also works), e.g. /blog/\*.

## `excludePatterns` (type: `array`):

Optional. Skip URLs containing these patterns, e.g. /tag/ or ?page=.

## `ignoreQueryStrings` (type: `boolean`):

Treat example.com/a?x=1 and example.com/a as the same page (tracking parameters like utm\_\* are always ignored).

## `respectRobotsTxt` (type: `boolean`):

Skip pages disallowed by robots.txt (and honour crawl-delay). Turn off only for your own sites.

## `onlyPagesWithIssues` (type: `boolean`):

Save (and pay for) only pages that have at least one issue of the selected severity. All pages still count toward the site report.

## `minSeverity` (type: `string`):

Used only when 'Only save pages with issues' is on.

## `maxConcurrency` (type: `integer`):

Keep this low to be gentle on small sites.
