## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Eurostat Economic Data — EU GDP, Inflation, Unemployment, Industry

Fetch official Eurostat EU and Euro Area economic indicators directly from the European Commission's free data API. Covers GDP growth, HICP inflation (headline and core), unemployment, industrial production, retail sales, sentiment indices, government debt and deficit, house prices, and more. No API key required.

### What It Does

- Fetches 17 pre-configured EU/Euro Area economic time series from Eurostat
- Concurrent fetching — all selected indicators retrieved in parallel
- Returns standardized records: indicator, country, date, value, unit
- Configurable time range (default: from 2010)
- Gracefully skips unavailable indicators with a warning (never fails hard)

### Use Cases

**EUR/USD macro analysis** — Combine GDP growth, HICP inflation, and unemployment trends to assess ECB policy trajectory and EUR directional bias.

**EU cycle tracking** — Monitor industrial production, retail sales, and sentiment to identify early expansion or contraction in the Euro Area business cycle.

**Government debt monitoring** — Track debt-to-GDP and deficit ratios across annual fiscal updates for sovereign credit analysis.

**Housing market research** — Use the quarterly House Price Index across EU27 for real estate trend analysis.

**Sentiment dashboards** — Build composite EU sentiment feeds using Economic, Consumer, Manufacturing, and Services confidence in a single pipeline.

**Academic and backtesting** — Pull data back to 2010 (or earlier with `since` parameter) for long-horizon regression models and strategy backtests.

### Pricing

- **$0.002 per indicator fetched** (PPE — Pay Per Event)
- Default run (11 indicators) ≈ $0.022

### FAQ

**Do I need an API key?**
No. Eurostat's JSON API is free and open — no registration required.

**How current is the data?**
Eurostat typically publishes with a 1–2 month lag (e.g., May unemployment data published in July). Data reflects the latest available release.

**Can I fetch specific countries (Germany, France, etc.)?**
The built-in indicators cover Euro Area (EA20) and EU aggregates. For country-level data, you can modify the catalog by adding custom entries — see the `geo` parameter (DE = Germany, FR = France, IT = Italy, ES = Spain, etc.).

**What's the difference between GDP QoQ and YoY?**
`gdp_growth_qoq` is the sequential quarter-on-quarter change (annualized by ECB, published seasonally adjusted). `gdp_growth_yoy` compares to the same quarter in the prior year — less volatile, better for trend analysis.

**What is HICP core?**
HICP excluding energy, food, alcohol, and tobacco. The ECB focuses on core inflation for its 2% target assessment.
