## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Crypto Social Sentiment Aggregator

**Crypto Social Sentiment Aggregator** aggregates **Reddit mentions, keyword sentiment scores, Fear & Greed index, and optional LunarCrush metrics** for any crypto or stock symbol — no API key required, no proxy needed. Get a normalized -100 to +100 sentiment score, mention count, sentiment momentum, and Fear & Greed regime in a single run.

Social sentiment is one of the few leading indicators in crypto: retail activity on Reddit often precedes price moves by 12–48 hours in both directions. This actor automates that scan across multiple subreddits and symbols simultaneously.

***

### Why use Crypto Social Sentiment Aggregator?

1. **Sentiment as a leading signal** — Reddit post volume and sentiment precede price moves in crypto. A surge in bullish mentions for a mid-cap altcoin often precedes a pump within 24–48 hours.
2. **Fear & Greed regime context** — Extreme Fear readings (below 20) have historically been the best time to buy; Extreme Greed (above 80) precedes corrections. The 7-day moving average shows whether the market is in a recovery or deterioration trend.
3. **Multi-symbol monitoring** — Track BTC, ETH, SOL, and key altcoins simultaneously. Compare sentiment momentum to identify which assets are gaining or losing community momentum.
4. **Contrarian signal detection** — Extreme positive sentiment (very_bullish) on a coin that's already up 50% is often a sell signal. Extreme negative sentiment after a crash can be a buy signal. Use `sentiment_label` for regime classification.
5. **Portfolio alerts** — Detect when sentiment for a held coin shifts from bullish to bearish before the price confirms the reversal.

### How to use

1. Open the actor on Apify Store and click **Try for free**.
2. Set `symbols` to your list of tickers (e.g. `["BTC", "ETH", "SOL"]`).
3. Optionally customize `redditSubreddits` for more targeted community sampling.
4. Enable `includeLunarCrush` for additional social volume data (may occasionally be unavailable).
5. Click **Start**. Returns one sentiment record per symbol.

### Sentiment scoring

Sentiment is computed via keyword matching — fast, predictable, no API cost.

**Positive keywords**: moon, bullish, pump, ath, breakout, buy, green, gains, rally, bullrun, mooning, surge, soar, boom, opportunity

**Negative keywords**: crash, dump, bearish, sell, rekt, rug, scam, dead, bear, fear, plunge, collapse, bubble, fraud, down

Each post title is tokenized; +1 per positive word, -1 per negative word, normalized to -100..+100 across all posts for the symbol.

### Cost estimation

**Pay-Per-Event: $0.001 per actor start + $0.01 per symbol analyzed.**

| Use case | Symbols | Estimated cost |
|----------|---------|----------------|
| 4 default symbols | 4 | ~$0.041/run |
| Top 10 altcoins | 10 | ~$0.101/run |
| Hourly portfolio check (5 symbols) | 5 | ~$0.051/hour = ~$1.22/day |
| Daily sentiment sweep | 20 | ~$0.20/day |

### FAQ

**Is the sentiment score based on machine learning?**
No — it uses keyword matching for speed and predictability. The list of positive/negative keywords is fixed. This makes results deterministic and fast (no LLM call cost), but it won't catch sarcasm or complex sentiment.

**What's LunarCrush and when is it unavailable?**
LunarCrush is a social intelligence platform with a public API tier. The actor gracefully skips it when the public tier is rate-limited or unavailable — all Reddit and Fear & Greed fields are still returned.

**Fear & Greed is listed once — does it apply to all symbols?**
Yes — Fear & Greed is a market-wide crypto index from Alternative.me, not per-symbol. All symbols in a run share the same `fear_greed_value` and `fear_greed_7d_avg`.

**Can I use this for stock tickers like AAPL or TSLA?**
Yes — set `redditSubreddits` to `["wallstreetbets", "stocks", "investing"]` and pass stock tickers. The sentiment scoring works the same way for equities.
