## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## WordPress.org Plugin Scraper

Pull structured data on any WordPress.org plugin — active installs, ratings breakdown, version, WP/PHP compatibility, last update, tags and daily downloads — straight from the official `api.wordpress.org` endpoints. No browser, no proxies, no breaking selectors.

**WordPress plugin scraper for WordPress.org data via the official API, no login or API key, pay per result.**

### What you can do with it

- **Market research** — list every plugin for a tag (`woocommerce`, `forms`, `security`) with installs and ratings, find under-served niches.
- **Competitor monitoring** — run daily on a list of slugs, diff `version`, `active_installs`, `rating`, `support_threads`.
- **Lead generation** — authors of plugins with 10k+ installs and no premium `business_model` are plugin businesses you can pitch.
- **Due diligence** — check `tested_up_to`, `last_updated` and unresolved support threads before installing a plugin on a client site.
- **Feed an LLM** — set `includeDescription` to get the full description/changelog HTML for summarisation.
- **Automation** — Schedule it on Apify and pipe results to Google Sheets, Slack, n8n or Make via the Apify integration.
- **Compatibility audits** — before a WordPress core upgrade, run your site's plugin `slugs` and flag any whose `tested_up_to` lags the new version.

### Input

| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
| `search` | Full-text search, same as the wordpress.org plugin search box. |
| `browse` | When `search` is empty: `popular`, `new`, `updated`, `top-rated`, `beta`, `featured`. |
| `tag` / `author` | Filter by tag slug or author username. Combine with `search` or `browse`. |
| `slugs` | Look up specific plugins. Overrides search/browse. |
| `maxItems` | Stop after N plugins (default 100). |
| `includeDescription` | Add `sections` (description, installation, FAQ, changelog as HTML). |
| `includeDownloadHistory` | Add `daily_downloads` for the last 30 days (one extra request per plugin). |

### Pricing

Pay per plugin returned. A run that returns 100 plugins costs 100 × the per-plugin price, nothing else — no platform usage fees on top.

### Notes

- Data comes from the public WordPress.org Plugin API (`plugins/info/1.2` and `stats/plugin/1.0`). `active_installs` is the rounded figure WordPress.org publishes.
- Search results are capped by WordPress.org at roughly 12,500 plugins per query (50 pages × 250). Narrow with `tag` if you need more.
- Found a plugin that fails or a field you need? Open an issue in the Issues tab — replies within 24 hours.

### FAQ

#### Do I need an API key or account?

No. The WordPress.org Plugin API (`api.wordpress.org`) is public and keyless. Requests are made at a modest pace; `includeDownloadHistory` adds one request per plugin.

#### How much does it cost?

$0.002 per result and nothing else: with pay-per-event pricing you are not billed for Apify compute. 100 results cost $0.20, and the Apify free plan's $5 monthly credit covers about 2,500 results. Rows that are never produced are never charged.

#### How do I get the data into Google Sheets / my app?

Every run writes to an Apify dataset you can download as CSV, JSON or Excel, or read from the dataset API endpoint. For ongoing feeds, use Apify integrations (Google Sheets, Slack, Zapier, Make, n8n) or call the Actor from your own code with the Apify API.

#### Is it legal / allowed?

It only reads public data via the platform's public API and respects rate limits. You are responsible for complying with WordPress.org's terms and applicable law.

#### How many plugins can one search return?

WordPress.org caps search results at roughly 12,500 plugins per query (50 pages × 250). Combine `search` or `browse` with `tag` or `author` to narrow it, or pass `slugs` for exact lookups.
