## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Local Business Finder (phone, website, email)

Build a contact-ready list of local businesses in any city, worldwide, from OpenStreetMap's
public database. Pick a city and one or more of 33 categories (trades, health, food, personal
care, auto, professional services) and get back business name, phone, website, email, street
address, coordinates and opening hours — deduplicated by phone number so the same business never
appears twice. No API key, no login, no proxies.

Made for lead lists, CRM imports, local SEO audits, service-area research, and outreach
campaigns for agencies selling to local businesses.

### Categories

plumber, electrician, hvac, roofer, locksmith, landscaper, painter, carpenter, dentist, doctor,
vet, chiropractor, physiotherapist, optician, pharmacy, restaurant, cafe, bar, bakery,
hairdresser, beauty\_salon, tattoo, gym, auto\_repair, car\_wash, car\_dealer, lawyer, accountant,
insurance, real\_estate, hotel, florist, laundry

### What you get

One record per business: `name`, `category`, `city`, `phone`, `website`, `email`, `address`,
`latitude`, `longitude`, `openingHours`, `osmId`. With **requirePhone** (default on) every record
has a phone number; turn it off to also collect businesses that only list a website or address.

### Data source and coverage

OpenStreetMap via the Overpass API (data © OpenStreetMap contributors, ODbL). Coverage is
community-maintained: dense in North America, Europe and large cities worldwide, thinner in rural
areas. Email is listed for a minority of businesses; phone and website coverage is much higher.

### Pricing

Pay per event: **$5 per 1,000 businesses** ($0.005 each). A 3-category sweep of one mid-size city
typically returns 100–400 contactable businesses — under $2.

### Example input

```json
{ "city": "Phoenix", "categories": ["plumber", "hvac", "electrician"], "requirePhone": true }
```

# Actor input Schema

## `city` (type: `string`):

City name as it appears on the map, e.g. Phoenix, Manchester, Berlin. Matched against the city's administrative boundary.

## `categories` (type: `array`):

One or more business categories to search.

## `requirePhone` (type: `boolean`):

Return only businesses that list a phone number (best for call/SMS outreach). Turn off to also get businesses with just a website or address.

## `maxPerCategory` (type: `integer`):

Cap on results per category for one city.

## `overpassUrl` (type: `string`):

Alternative Overpass API endpoint, e.g. a private instance. Leave empty for the public one.

  "requirePhone": true,
  "maxPerCategory": 200
}
```
# Actor output Schema
## `businesses` (type: `string`):
Dataset with one record per business, deduplicated by phone number.
