## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

Collect business cards from public Google Maps search, list, and place pages. Records can include a business's Maps identity, result position, contact details, rating, address, photos, and other information visible on the page.

When a public shared list exposes its title, curator name, member position, or entry note, those details are saved separately from the business profile.

### Quick start

The default input searches for top hotels in Paris. To run a different search, replace **startUrls**:

```json
{
  "startUrls": [
    {
      "url": "https://www.google.com/maps/search/coffee+shops+in+Seattle/"
    }
  ],
  "maxItems": 25,
  "maxPages": 1
}
```

### Input

| Input | Description |
| --- | --- |
| **startUrls** | Public Google Maps list, search, or place pages. Defaults to a hotel search in Paris. |
| **maxItems** | Maximum business records (default 25; maximum 1,000). |
| **page** | Starting results page (default 1; maximum 100). |
| **followPagination** | Follow the visible Next page control (default false). |
| **maxPages** | Maximum total pages when pagination is enabled (default 1; maximum 100). |
| **includeDetails** | Open linked public Maps place profiles for additional details (default false). |
| **maxDetailItems** | Maximum profiles to open when details are enabled (default 5; maximum 1,000, also limited by maxItems). |
| **proxyConfiguration** | Optional Apify Proxy settings (off by default). |

### Dataset

Each dataset row represents a business. Common fields include its name, Maps place ID or feature ID, canonical profile URL, category, address, coordinates, phone, website, rating, review count, hours, prices, amenities, and images when shown.

For public shared-list pages, a record may also include **listName**, **listOwnerName**, **listTotalPlaces**, **listEntryNote**, and **listUrl**. These fields describe the list and its member card. They are not copied from the search query. On ordinary search results, **rank** and **listPosition** describe the observed card order, not an independently verified Google ranking.

```json
{
  "name": "Example Hotel",
  "canonicalUrl": "https://www.google.com/maps/place/Example+Hotel/",
  "placeId": "ChIJexamplePlace",
  "primaryCategory": "Hotel",
  "address": "10 Example Street, Paris",
  "latitude": 48.8566,
  "longitude": 2.3522,
  "rating": 4.7,
  "reviewCount": 1250,
  "rank": 1,
  "listPosition": 1,
  "listName": "Top hotels in Paris",
  "listOwnerName": "Example curator",
  "listTotalPlaces": 24,
  "listEntryNote": "Near the city center",
  "listUrl": "https://www.google.com/maps/@/list/example"
}
```

The example is illustrative; list fields appear only when Maps displays genuine list membership. Download the dataset from the Apify run page in JSON, CSV, Excel, or another supported format. Run summary information is available in the run output.

### Optional profile details and pagination

For search pages, **includeDetails** opens at most **maxDetailItems** linked place profiles. Direct business place URLs are processed as the requested source. Detail visits can add profile information but increase run time.

Pagination is off by default. Enable **followPagination** to follow the visible Next page control, up to **maxPages** total pages.

### Limits and troubleshooting

Only public Google Maps pages are supported. Google may limit or change the visible page, so a run can return fewer records than requested. Check the run log and summary if the source is empty or partial.

The Actor does not access private, login-only, or paywalled pages and does not bypass CAPTCHAs or other access controls.

### Privacy

The Actor visits the supplied public Maps URLs and may collect public list curator names and notes when they appear on a shared list. Avoid submitting sensitive URLs. This independent Actor is not affiliated with Google.

# Actor input Schema

## `startUrls` (type: `array`):

Public Google Maps list, search, or place pages. Login-only, private, and paywalled pages are not supported.

## `maxItems` (type: `integer`):

Hard result limit for a bounded run.

## `maxPages` (type: `integer`):

Maximum number of result pages to process, including the starting page, when followPagination is enabled.

## `followPagination` (type: `boolean`):

Follow the visible Google Maps Next page control between result pages, up to maxPages total pages.

## `includeDetails` (type: `boolean`):

Opt in to visiting linked public Maps place profiles. Disabled by default; direct business websites are not fetched.

## `maxDetailItems` (type: `integer`):

Maximum additional place profiles to fetch when enrichment is enabled, capped by maxItems.

## `requestDelayMs` (type: `integer`):

Pause applied between page loads and feed-loading actions; the Actor enforces a 700 ms minimum.

## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):

Optional Apify Proxy configuration for responsible access.

## `page` (type: `integer`):

One-based starting page; advances through the visible Google Maps Next page control.
