## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

Collect publicly visible questions and answers from Google Maps place pages. The Actor returns one dataset row per question, with its answer details and public information about the associated place when available.

Direct place-profile URLs are the most reliable starting point. Search pages are also accepted, but they may not expose a place’s Q\&A. A place with no visible questions produces no question rows.

### How to use

1. Provide Maps place URLs in `startUrls`, or enter search phrases in `queries`.
2. Set how many source pages, questions, and nested answers to collect.
3. Run the Actor and view or export the question records in the dataset.

Example:

```json
{
  "startUrls": [
    { "url": "https://www.google.com/maps/place/Example+Cafe/" }
  ],
  "maxItems": 25,
  "maxQuestionsPerPlace": 10,
  "maxAnswersPerQuestion": 5
}
```

### Input

| Input | Description | Default |
|---|---|---:|
| `startUrls` | Public Google Maps place or search URLs. When supplied, these are used instead of generated searches. | — |
| `queries` | Search phrases to find Maps pages. | — |
| `keyword` | A single search phrase, used when no URLs or queries are supplied. | — |
| `location` | Location appended to generated search phrases. | — |
| `maxItems` | Maximum question rows across the run (up to 500). | 25 |
| `page` / `maxPages` | Starting position and maximum number of source pages to inspect. These select input sources; they are not Q\&A page numbers. | 1 / 10 |
| `maxQuestionsPerPlace` | Maximum questions retained from each place (up to 100). | 25 |
| `maxAnswersPerQuestion` | Maximum nested answers retained per question (up to 50). Set to `0` to omit nested answer details. | 10 |

If you provide both `startUrls` and generated search inputs, the URLs take precedence. See the Input tab for any additional limits.

### Output

Each dataset row represents a question and includes fields for:

- **Question:** `questionId`, question text, public author name/type/profile, helpful count, and the date shown by Google Maps, including available date precision and timestamp.
- **Answer:** the first visible answer, answer count, and a bounded list of visible answers with author name/type/profile and date details.
- **Place:** `placeId`, name, description, categories, structured address and coordinates, rating, review count, price label, phone, website, menu, Plus Code, opening hours, and other public profile details when available.
- **Maps links:** the place URL and `canonicalUrl` when provided by the page.

Dates preserve the wording and precision provided by the source. Relative dates remain text; the Actor does not convert them into an invented exact timestamp. Fields not available on a page may be `null`.

Example row:

```json
{
  "questionId": "question-123",
  "question": "Is street parking available?",
  "questionAuthor": "Maps contributor",
  "askedAtText": "2 weeks ago",
  "askedAtPrecision": "relative",
  "answer": "Yes, street parking is available.",
  "answerAuthor": "Example Cafe",
  "answerCount": 2,
  "isAnswered": true,
  "answers": [
    {
      "text": "Yes, street parking is available.",
      "author": "Example Cafe",
      "authorType": "business"
    }
  ],
  "placeId": "0x89c3ca9c11f90c25:0x6cc8dba851799f09",
  "placeName": "Example Cafe",
  "placeCategory": "Cafe",
  "placeAddress": "10 Main St, Brooklyn, NY 11201, US",
  "placeRating": 4.7,
  "placeUrl": "https://www.google.com/maps/place/Example+Cafe/"
}
```

Run summary information is available with the run output in Apify.

### Limits and responsible use

Google Maps may not show Q\&A for every place or may limit the information available on a page. Search results may therefore produce no question records; try a direct place URL when you know which business you need. The Actor does not sign in or bypass access checks.

Use public information responsibly and follow applicable privacy requirements and Google Maps terms. This Actor is not affiliated with Google.

# Actor input Schema

## `startUrls` (type: `array`):

Public HTTPS Google Maps place pages are recommended. Search URLs are accepted when they expose a single place and its Q\&A in page source. Provide one URL for each place to inspect.

## `queries` (type: `array`):

Optional public Google Maps search phrases. Direct place URLs are more reliable for Q\&A extraction.

## `keyword` (type: `string`):

Used to build one public Google Maps search when no startUrls or queries are provided.

## `location` (type: `string`):

Optional location appended to generated search phrases. It does not override the location encoded in a supplied URL.

## `maxItems` (type: `integer`):

Global maximum number of question records to add to the dataset.

## `page` (type: `integer`):

One-based starting index in the deduplicated URL/query source list. Google Maps Q\&A pages do not expose a stable public pagination cursor to this actor.

## `maxPages` (type: `integer`):

Maximum number of supplied or generated source pages to inspect, starting at page. This is a source-page cap, not an invented Q\&A pagination offset.

## `maxQuestionsPerPlace` (type: `integer`):

Bounds the number of source-visible questions retained from each place page.

## `maxAnswersPerQuestion` (type: `integer`):

Bounds nested source-visible answers per question. Set to 0 to return null for nested answer details while retaining any source-visible first answer and answer count.

## `requestTimeoutSecs` (type: `integer`):

Maximum time for each ordinary public-page request.

## `maxRequestRetries` (type: `integer`):

Retries only transient network failures. Access challenges and other access boundaries are not retried.

## `requestDelayMs` (type: `integer`):

Minimum delay before requests to public Google Maps pages.

## `maxResponseBytes` (type: `integer`):

Reject a page response larger than this bounded size.

## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):

Compatibility field only. This Actor sends ordinary direct requests and ignores proxy settings; configure no proxy for this Actor.
