## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

Search public Google Patents results and optionally enrich selected publications with information from their public patent pages. Use the dataset to review patent titles, publication details, inventors, assignees, classifications, claims, and citations.

### How to use

1. Enter a query or a list of queries.
2. Set the result page range and overall publication limit.
3. Enable `includeDetails` if you need claims, citations, legal events, or other information from patent pages.
4. Run the Actor and view or export the publication records in the dataset.

Example:

```json
{
  "queries": ["coherent lidar", "laser detection"],
  "maxItems": 20,
  "page": 1,
  "maxPages": 2,
  "includeDetails": true,
  "maxDetailItems": 5,
  "maxClaims": 100,
  "maxCitations": 50
}
```

### Input

| Input | Description | Default |
|---|---|---:|
| `query` | One Google Patents search phrase. Used if no query list is provided. | `solar` |
| `queries` | Multiple search phrases. `keywords` is an alias; `searchQuery` is an alias for one phrase. | — |
| `maxItems` | Maximum unique publications across the run (1–100). | 10 |
| `page` / `maxPages` | First result page and number of consecutive pages per search (up to 100). | 1 / 10 |
| `includeDetails` | Add details from public patent pages. | `false` |
| `maxDetailItems` | Maximum patent pages to enrich (1–100). | 10 |
| `maxClaims` | Maximum claim texts per enriched publication (1–500). | 100 |
| `maxCitations` | Maximum entries in each citation, cited-by, application, similar-document, and legal-event list (1–200). | 50 |
| `proxyConfiguration` | Accepted for compatibility, but this Actor currently uses direct requests. | — |

### Output

Each dataset item represents a patent publication and includes the required publication ID, publication number, title, and Google Patents detail URL. Search results can also include an abstract or excerpt, dates, inventors, assignees, country, and patent PDF link.

When `includeDetails` is enabled and the information is available, records can include:

- Full patent description as text and HTML, claims, classifications, and landscape labels.
- Application number, patent status, priority/filing/publication/grant/expiration dates, and current assignee.
- Patent and non-patent citations, cited-by publications, related applications, similar documents, and legal events.
- Patent figure images and links to related publication resources.

Example dataset item:

```json
{
  "publicationId": "patent/US10000000B2/en",
  "publicationNumber": "US10000000B2",
  "publicationCountryCode": "US",
  "publicationKindCode": "B2",
  "title": "Coherent LADAR using intra-pixel quadrature detection",
  "abstract": "A public abstract when available.",
  "priorityDate": "2015-03-10",
  "filingDate": "2015-03-10",
  "publicationDate": "2018-06-19",
  "inventors": ["Joseph Marron"],
  "assignees": ["Raytheon Co"],
  "detailUrl": "https://patents.google.com/patent/US10000000B2/en",
  "pdfUrl": "https://patentimages.storage.googleapis.com/example/US10000000.pdf"
}
```

Optional fields depend on what Google Patents displays and whether detail enrichment is enabled. Failed detail lookups do not remove an otherwise available search result. The Output tab shows the available result fields.

### Limits and responsible use

The number of searches, pages, and optional patent-page lookups affects run time. Google Patents may not provide every field for every publication. The Actor does not sign in or bypass access restrictions.

Use public patent information responsibly and follow applicable site terms and intellectual-property laws. This Actor is not affiliated with Google or Google Patents.

# Actor input Schema

## `query` (type: `string`):

One public Google Patents full-text query. Used when no query list is provided.

## `queries` (type: `array`):

Multiple public full-text queries. Results share the global maxItems limit.

## `keywords` (type: `array`):

Compatibility alias for queries. Duplicate query text is removed.

## `searchQuery` (type: `string`):

Compatibility alias for query.

## `maxItems` (type: `integer`):

Global maximum of unique patent publications returned across all queries and pages.

## `page` (type: `integer`):

One-based Google Patents result page to request first.

## `maxPages` (type: `integer`):

Maximum number of consecutive result pages to inspect for each query, starting at page.

## `includeDetails` (type: `boolean`):

Fetch public patent pages for full descriptions, claims, classifications, citations, events, related applications, and images. Disabled by default.

## `maxDetailItems` (type: `integer`):

Maximum number of publication detail pages fetched during one run when includeDetails is enabled.

## `maxClaims` (type: `integer`):

Upper bound on claim texts returned per enriched patent. Claim text is kept in full for each included claim.

## `maxCitations` (type: `integer`):

Upper bound for each citation, cited-by, related-application, similar-document, and legal-event array.
