## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

### What this Actor does

Google Play Competitor Analysis Scraper compares a target app with related apps and apps from the same developer that are visible on public Google Play pages. It returns one dataset row for each target or competitor app, with the relationship to the target and the competitor's visible listing details.

By default, the Actor reports related app cards visible on the target listing. Set `includeCompetitorDetails` to `true` to fetch bounded public listing details for those apps.

### Input

Provide one or more package IDs or public Google Play URLs. You can also use a public search, category, or developer page as a source. `maxCompetitors` caps related apps per target, `maxTargets` caps source workflows, and `maxItems` caps dataset rows.

```json
{"appId":"com.google.android.apps.maps","maxCompetitors":5,"maxItems":10}
```

```json
{"appIds":["com.google.android.apps.maps","com.waze"],"maxCompetitors":3,"includeCompetitorDetails":true}
```

| Input | Description | Default |
|---|---|---:|
| `appId` / `appIds` | One or more target app package IDs. | — |
| `startUrls` | Public app, search, category, or developer pages. `sourceUrls`, `urls`, and `url` are aliases. | — |
| `maxCompetitors` | Maximum related apps per target (1–50). `maxRelatedApps` and `maxApps` are aliases. | 5 |
| `maxTargets` | Maximum target source workflows (1–50). | 10 |
| `maxItems` | Maximum target and competitor records (1–500). `maxResults` is an alias. | 25 |
| `includeCompetitorDetails` | Visit related apps’ public listing pages for additional details. | `false` |
| `deduplicate` | Return each app relationship once. | `true` |
| `locale` / `language` / `country` | Select the Google Play storefront and language. | `en-US` / `en` / `US` |
| `proxyConfiguration` | Optional Apify Proxy configuration for public listing pages. | — |

Only the first public target listing page is supported. Related app collection is bounded by `maxCompetitors` and the global `maxItems` limit.

### Dataset output

Each row contains an app observation and its relationship to the target. Useful fields include:

| Field | What it contains |
| --- | --- |
| `appId`, `title`, `developerName`, `developerId`, `appUrl` | App and developer identity |
| `targetAppId`, `relationship`, `relationshipLabel`, `competitorRank` | The target app and how the row relates to it |
| `comparison` | Comparable metrics and differences when both listings expose them |
| `appCategory`, `rating`, `ratingCount`, `reviewCount`, `installsText` | Category and visible popularity signals |
| `price`, `priceCurrency`, `isFree`, `containsAds`, `hasInAppPurchases` | Public price and monetization details, when available |
| `updatedAt`, `updatedText`, `version`, `contentRating` | Listing update and app details |
| `description`, `descriptionHtml`, `releaseNotes`, `screenshotUrls` | Public listing content and media links, when available |
| `locale`, `country`, `pageUrl` | Market and source page |

Example:

```json
{
  "appId": "com.example.navigation",
  "title": "Example Navigation",
  "targetAppId": "com.google.android.apps.maps",
  "relationship": "related",
  "relationshipLabel": "Similar apps",
  "competitorRank": 1,
  "rating": 4.5,
  "appCategory": "Travel & Local",
  "country": "US"
}
```

Optional listing values may be absent when Google Play does not display them. Search and category sources are limited to the first page. Dataset results can be downloaded in JSON, CSV, Excel, or other formats supported by Apify.

### Coverage and responsible use

The comparison uses public listing signals available in the selected market and is not a complete market-share analysis. A missing value means the source page did not provide it. Follow Google Play's terms and applicable laws when using the results.
