## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

### What this Actor does

Google Play Review Sentiment Scraper collects public app listing details and analyzes review text visible on each listing. It returns one app-level dataset row with the store's rating signals and a transparent English keyword-lexicon analysis of the sampled reviews.

The sentiment is deterministic and unweighted; it is not an AI or human assessment. The Actor does not infer sentiment from star ratings, app descriptions, or interface labels. When the visible review sample contains no recognized sentiment words, the sentiment label is `unknown`.

### Input

Provide an app package ID, a public app URL, or a public Google Play search or category URL. You can also pass multiple IDs, URLs, or search terms. `maxReviews` caps visible review cards analyzed per app; `maxApps` caps app pages discovered per source; and `maxItems` caps output rows.

For search and category sources, `page` sets the one-based starting page and `maxPages` limits how many consecutive pages are inspected. These options do not provide access to a complete historical review archive.

```json
{"appId":"com.google.android.apps.maps","maxReviews":25}
```

```json
{"searchTerm":"maps","maxApps":5,"maxItems":5,"locale":"en-US"}
```

```json
{"startUrls":[{"url":"https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.maps&hl=en&gl=US"}],"includeReviewSample":false}
```

| Input | Description | Default |
|---|---|---:|
| `appId` / `appIds` | One or more Google Play package IDs. | — |
| `startUrls` | Public app, search, or category pages. `sourceUrls`, `urls`, and `url` are aliases. | — |
| `searchTerm` / `searchTerms` | Search terms used to find apps when no direct source is supplied. | — |
| `maxReviews` | Maximum visible review texts analyzed per app (1–500). | 50 |
| `maxApps` | Maximum app detail links followed per search page (1–100). | 20 |
| `maxTargets` | Maximum source pages processed (1–50). | 10 |
| `maxItems` | Maximum app records across the run (1–500). | 100 |
| `includeReviewSample` | Include a bounded sample of the analyzed public reviews. | `true` |
| `deduplicate` | Keep one record per app package ID. | `true` |
| `locale` / `language` / `country` | Choose the Google Play language and storefront. | `en-US` / `en` / `US` |
| `page` / `maxPages` | Starting search page and maximum consecutive pages to inspect. | 1 / 10 |

### Output

Each dataset row describes an app and its sampled reviews. Useful fields include:

| Field | What it contains |
| --- | --- |
| `appId`, `title`, `developer`, `appUrl` | App identity and public listing details |
| `rating`, `ratingCount`, `reviewCount`, `ratingDistribution` | Store rating signals as displayed on the page |
| `sentimentLabel`, `sentimentScore`, `sentimentMethod`, `sentimentBasis` | Summary of the review-text analysis and its method |
| `positiveReviewCount`, `negativeReviewCount`, `mixedReviewCount` | Counts of sampled reviews classified by the lexicon |
| `reviewCountAnalyzed`, `reviewsWithSentimentTerms`, `reviewsWithoutSentimentTerms` | Sample coverage and how many reviews contained recognized terms |
| `themes`, `reviewSample` | Detected themes and, when enabled, a bounded set of visible review examples |
| `description`, `descriptionHtml`, `dataSafety`, `locale`, `country` | Other public listing details, when available |

Optional fields are omitted when the public page does not provide them. `downloadsText` keeps Google Play's approximate label instead of presenting it as an exact count. Store rating totals and the number of reviews analyzed are separate measurements.

Example:

```json
{
  "appId": "com.example.maps",
  "title": "Example Maps",
  "sentimentLabel": "mixed",
  "sentimentScore": 0.18,
  "sentimentMethod": "keyword_lexicon",
  "reviewCountAnalyzed": 25,
  "positiveReviewCount": 9,
  "negativeReviewCount": 6,
  "mixedReviewCount": 3,
  "reviewsWithoutSentimentTerms": 7,
  "themes": ["navigation"]
}
```

You can download dataset results as JSON, CSV, Excel, or other formats supported by Apify. The run page also provides a summary and health details.

### Coverage and responsible use

Only review text and listing information visible on the public Google Play pages are analyzed. Availability can vary by app, country, language, and page. A missing review sample does not mean an app has no reviews, and reviews without recognized lexicon terms are not assumed to be neutral.

Use the results in line with Google Play's terms and applicable privacy laws. Do not use the Actor to collect or misuse personal data.
