## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

### What this Actor does

Google Play Top Charts Scraper collects visible app rankings for a selected category and chart type: **Top free**, **Top paid**, or **Top grossing**. Results include the rank and the chart or listing context where it appeared.

By default, the Actor records the visible chart rows. Set `includeAppDetails` to `true` to add information from selected apps' public listings; `maxAppDetails` caps the number of detail pages.

### Input

Choose a category slug and ranking type, or provide public Google Play category, search, or app URLs. You can also supply app package IDs or search terms. `maxApps` limits rows considered after the selected chart page, and `maxItems` caps total output rows.

```json
{"category":"TRAVEL_AND_LOCAL","rankingType":"top_free","maxApps":30,"country":"US","language":"en"}
```

```json
{"category":"TRAVEL_AND_LOCAL","rankingType":"top_paid","includeAppDetails":true,"maxAppDetails":5}
```

```json
{"searchTerms":["maps"],"maxApps":10,"maxItems":10,"locale":"en-IN"}
```

| Input | Description | Default |
|---|---|---:|
| `category` | Google Play category slug, such as `TRAVEL_AND_LOCAL`. | `TRAVEL_AND_LOCAL` |
| `rankingType` | Chart type: `top_free`, `top_paid`, or `top_grossing`. | `top_free` |
| `startUrls` | Public category, search, or app pages. `sourceUrls` is an alias. | — |
| `appId` / `appIds` | Package IDs for direct app-page records. | — |
| `searchTerm` / `searchTerms` | Search terms used to find app pages. | — |
| `page` | Select a ten-rank chart window; page 1 begins at rank 1 (1–5). | 1 |
| `maxApps` | Maximum chart rows to keep after the selected rank window (1–500). | 50 |
| `maxPages` | Maximum public source pages processed (1–5). | 1 |
| `maxItems` | Maximum records across the run (1–500). | 50 |
| `includeAppDetails` | Add information from selected apps’ public listings. | `false` |
| `maxAppDetails` | Maximum app listing pages to visit when details are enabled (1–50). | 10 |
| `deduplicate` | Keep the first observed row for each app ID. | `true` |
| `locale` / `language` / `country` | Select the Google Play storefront and language. | `en-US` / `en` / `US` |

### Dataset output

Each row includes app identity, visible ranking, chart type, category, and market. Useful fields include `appId`, `title`, `rank`, `rankType`, `rankSource`, `chartCategory`, `categorySlug`, `shelf`, `chartTitle`, `rankingCountry`, `rankingLanguage`, `rating`, `ratingCountText`, `downloadsText`, and `downloadCountMin`.

When app details are enabled, rows may also contain descriptions, screenshots, app version, update and release dates, content rating, price, public developer links, and Google Play Data safety summary fields.

```json
{
  "appId": "com.example.travel",
  "title": "Example Travel",
  "rank": 1,
  "rankType": "top_free",
  "rankSource": "category_chart",
  "chartCategory": "Travel & Local",
  "categorySlug": "TRAVEL_AND_LOCAL",
  "rating": 4.6,
  "downloadsText": "10M+ downloads",
  "rankingCountry": "US",
  "rankingLanguage": "en"
}
```

Download dataset results as JSON, CSV, Excel, or another format supported by Apify. Optional values are included only when they are visible on the selected public pages. Rating totals and download bands may be rounded by Google Play.

### Cost, coverage, and responsible use

Check the Actor's Pricing tab for current Actor and Apify platform charges. App-detail enrichment makes additional requests, so leave it off when chart positions alone are sufficient.

Results reflect the public listing and selected market at run time. The Actor does not access private account data or bypass Google Play access controls. Follow Google Play's terms and applicable laws when using the results.
