## What's an Apify Actor?

Actors are web data automations that power AI and operations. They run on the Apify platform to scrape websites, process data, connect APIs, and automate workflows.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.
Actors are written with capital "A".

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.
The best way to integrate Actors is as follows.

- **AI agents and MCP clients** — the [Apify MCP server](https://docs.apify.com/integrations/mcp.md) at `https://mcp.apify.com` (remote, streamable HTTP, OAuth on first use).
- **Agentic workflows and local Actor development** — [Agent Skills](https://apify.com/.well-known/agent-skills/index.json) with the [Apify CLI](https://docs.apify.com/cli/docs.md): `npm install -g apify-cli`, then `apify login`.
- **JavaScript/TypeScript projects** — the official [JS/TS client](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md): `npm install apify-client`.
- **Python projects** — the official [Python client](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md): `pip install apify-client`.
- **Any other language** — the [REST API](https://docs.apify.com/api/v2.md).

For usage examples, see the [API](#api) section below.

# README

## SEC Filings & Insider Trading Monitor

Monitor [SEC EDGAR](https://www.sec.gov/edgar) filings in structured form. Two modes:

- **Search** — full-text search across all filers by keyword and/or form type. Use `["4"]` for a live **insider-trading (Form 4) feed**, `["8-K"]` for material events, `["S-1"]` for new IPO registrations, `["10-K"]` for annual reports.
- **Company** — pull recent filings for specific tickers or CIKs (e.g. `AAPL`, `NVDA`).

Official EDGAR data, structured output with a direct link to each filing. Lightweight HTTP actor.

### Who Uses This

- **Investors & funds**: track 8-K material events, S-1 IPOs, and insider buying/selling
- **Insider-trading signals**: the Form 4 feed shows exactly who bought or sold, at which company, when
- **Investor relations / compliance**: monitor a company's own and peers' filings
- **AI agents**: "recent 8-Ks for \[ticker]", "insider trades at \[company] this week", "new S-1 filings"

### Input

```json
{
    "mode": "search",
    "formTypes": ["4"],
    "sinceDays": 7,
    "maxResults": 500
}
```

```json
{
    "mode": "company",
    "tickers": ["AAPL", "NVDA"],
    "formTypes": ["8-K", "4"],
    "sinceDays": 90
}
```

| Field | Description |
|-------|-------------|
| `mode` | `search` (keyword/form across all filers) or `company` (by ticker/CIK) |
| `query` | search mode: full-text keyword (optional if `formTypes` set) |
| `formTypes` | Form types to include, e.g. `["4"]`, `["8-K"]`, `["10-K"]`, `["S-1"]`. Empty = all |
| `tickers` | company mode: tickers or CIKs to pull filings for |
| `sinceDays` | Only filings from the last N days |
| `maxResults` / `maxResultsPerCompany` | Caps (0 = unlimited) |

### Output

Each filing: `form`, `filingDate`, `companyName`, `ticker`, `cik`, `reportingPerson` (insider, for Form 3/4/5), `isInsiderTrade`, `description`, `items` (8-K item codes), `accessionNumber`, `filingUrl` (direct link), `dataSource`.

### Notes

- Data is from the official SEC EDGAR APIs (full-text search + submissions), real-time as the SEC publishes.
- Full-text search covers 2001-present; company mode returns the most recent ~1,000 filings per company.
- Schedule a run (e.g. `formTypes:["4"], sinceDays:1`) for a daily insider-trading feed; add a webhook for alerts.
