## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Grants.gov Federal Grant Opportunities

> This product uses the Grants.gov API but is not endorsed or certified by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Search **US federal grant opportunities** from the official **Grants.gov API** and get each one as a clean, spreadsheet-ready record: title, agency, status, posted and closing dates, **award ceiling and floor, estimated total funding, expected number of awards**, cost sharing, eligible applicant types, eligibility text, description, Assistance Listing (ALN/CFDA) numbers and the agency's grants contact.

**Forecasted** opportunities (announced but not yet open) are included by default, with their estimated post, due and award dates, so you see funding months before the application window opens.

### Use cases

- **Grant writers and consultants**: a daily or weekly feed of new opportunities that match your clients' fields and eligibility.
- **Nonprofits, universities, cities and tribes**: track every program you can apply to, sorted by deadline.
- **Small businesses and startups**: find SBIR/STTR-style and other grants open to for-profits and small businesses.
- **GovTech and grant-management platforms**: keep an opportunity database up to date via API, Zapier or Make.
- **Researchers and journalists**: analyze federal funding by agency, category or size.

### How to use

1. Optional **Keyword** (e.g. `broadband`, `artificial intelligence`, `workforce`).
2. **Status**: forecasted and posted by default; add closed or archived for history.
3. Optional filters: **Posted within the last N days**, **Agency codes** (`HHS`, `NSF`, `USDA`, `DOD`, or a sub-agency such as `HHS-NIH11`), **Eligible applicant types**, **Funding categories**, **Funding instruments**, **Assistance Listing numbers**, **Minimum award ceiling**.
4. Pick **Sort by** (newest, closing soonest, ...) and **Max results**, then run. Schedule it for a fresh feed.

### Input

| Field | Type | Description |
|---|---|---|
| `keyword` | string | Full-text search. Empty = all. |
| `statuses` | array | `forecasted`, `posted`, `closed`, `archived`. Default forecasted + posted. |
| `postedWithinDays` | integer | Posted in the last N days; 0 = any time. |
| `agencies` | array | Agency codes. Top-level codes include all sub-agencies. |
| `eligibilities` | array | Applicant type codes, e.g. `23` small businesses, `12` 501(c)(3) nonprofits, `02` cities, `99` unrestricted. |
| `fundingCategories` | array | e.g. `HL` health, `ED` education, `ST` science & technology, `AG` agriculture. |
| `fundingInstruments` | array | `G` grant, `CA` cooperative agreement, `PC` procurement contract, `O` other. |
| `alnNumbers` | array | Assistance Listing numbers such as `47.070`. |
| `sortBy` | string | `newest`, `oldest`, `closingSoonest`, `closingLatest`, `relevance`. |
| `includeDetails` | boolean | Fetch award amounts, eligibility, description and contact (default true). Off = faster, basic fields only. |
| `minAwardCeiling` | integer | Keep only opportunities with a maximum award of at least this many USD. |
| `maxResults` | integer | Cap (default 100). |

Example: open AI-related grants that small businesses can apply for, closing soonest first.

```json
{
  "keyword": "artificial intelligence",
  "statuses": ["posted"],
  "eligibilities": ["23", "22"],
  "sortBy": "closingSoonest",
  "maxResults": 50
}
```

Invalid values (unknown status, malformed agency code or ALN) stop the run immediately with a clear message, before any charge.

### Output

Real record from a test run on 2026-10-28 (long text shortened here):

  "detailsFetched": true,
  "attribution": "This product uses the Grants.gov API but is not endorsed or certified by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services."
}
```
Every record has all 34 fields (`null` when the agency did not fill them in). A `RUN_SUMMARY` record shows the total matching count, records read, filtered and saved.
### Pricing
Pay per result: **$0.004 per opportunity** saved ($4 per 1,000), details included. Records removed by the minimum-award filter are free. Apify may also apply its standard tiny Actor-start and dataset-item platform events. Set a maximum spend per run in the Apify console and the Actor stops cleanly at that limit.
### Limits and tips
- Agencies fill in award amounts, number of awards and eligibility text inconsistently; empty values are `null`, never guessed.
- Forecasts have no closing date; use `estimatedApplicationDueDate`.
- Each Assistance Listing number is a separate search, and results are de-duplicated.
- With details on, expect roughly 3 to 4 opportunities per second.
- Always confirm deadlines and requirements in the official notice (`url` / `additionalInfoUrl`) before applying.
### FAQ
**Do I need a Grants.gov account or API key?**
No. The Actor uses the public Grants.gov search and detail API.
**What does `includeDetails` add?**
Award ceiling and floor, expected number of awards, eligibility text, close-date details, agency contact and the full description. Turn it off for a faster, lighter list.
**Can I track only new opportunities?**
Yes. Set `postedWithinDays` (for example 7) and schedule a weekly run.
**Why are some opportunities filtered out?**
`minAwardCeiling` drops opportunities without a published award ceiling at or above your value. Filtered records are not charged.
### Legal
Data comes from the public Grants.gov API under its [Terms of Service](https://www.grants.gov/api/terms-conditions), which allow searching, displaying and analyzing grants data and require the attribution notice shown at the top of this page; the notice is also included in every record and in the run log. Content is passed through unmodified apart from removing HTML tags. Agency contact details are official government grant contacts published in each notice.
This Actor is not affiliated with, endorsed or certified by Grants.gov or the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
