# Feed Signal Proof — RSS and Atom API: structured feed entries (`hadi.kanj/feed-signal-proof`) Actor

Normalize RSS, Atom and JSON Feed entries into titles, links, authors and published dates. Capture supplied metadata without fetching full articles. Demo: https://market-data-gateway-production-2084.up.railway.app/launch/feed-signal-proof

## Pricing

$1.00 / 1,000 observed articles

This Actor is paid per event. You are not charged for the Apify platform usage, but only a fixed price for specific events.

## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

## Feed Signal Proof — RSS, Atom & News Monitor

Normalize RSS, Atom and JSON feeds; monitor new and updated articles with publisher evidence.

### Quick start

```json
{
  "feeds": [
    "https://feeds.bbci.co.uk/news/rss.xml",
    "https://www.theverge.com/rss/index.xml"
  ],
  "maxArticles": 3,
  "stateKey": "release-smoke"
}
```

Run once for a snapshot. Schedule repeated runs with the same stateKey for change monitoring. Export the dataset as JSON, CSV or Excel; inspect the SUMMARY record for every source's completeness and baselineUpdated state.

### What you receive

Article title, publisher, URL, description, authors, categories, explicit publication/update dates and an image URL when supplied. RSS 2.0, Atom and JSON Feed supported. Full article text is not fetched. Missing dates/images remain null. No article disappearance is treated as deletion because feeds have a rolling window. Up to 5,000 previously observed identities retained per feed.

### Limits and accuracy

1–20 feeds; 1–1,000 articles per feed; four MB response limit. A feed is a finite source window, not exhaustive news coverage. Public feeds only, with robots checks, protected DNS/redirects, bounded reads and explicit errors. No authenticated or blocked content bypass.

### Pricing

$0.001 per successfully observed article ($1/1,000), including unchanged checks even with onlyChanges. Errors and removal rows are not charged. Platform usage is included under the standard Apify pay-per-event model. A spending-limited run stops before an additional charge and preserves its previous history.

### API

POST https://api.apify.com/v2/acts/hadi.kanj~feed-signal-proof/run-sync-get-dataset-items with your own Apify Bearer token and JSON input. For larger runs use /runs, poll /actor-runs/{id}, then fetch /datasets/{defaultDatasetId}/items. Never share your token. Source text is publisher-provided; downstream licensing remains your responsibility.

# Actor input Schema

## `feeds` (type: `array`):

Public source URLs

## `maxArticles` (type: `integer`):

Maximum records per source

## `stateKey` (type: `string`):

Reuse this name for repeat monitoring; history is isolated to your Apify account.

## `onlyChanges` (type: `boolean`):

Billing still counts all successfully observed records.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "feeds": [
    "https://feeds.bbci.co.uk/news/rss.xml",
    "https://www.theverge.com/rss/index.xml"
  ],
  "maxArticles": 100,
  "stateKey": "default",
  "onlyChanges": false
}
```

# Actor output Schema

## `records` (type: `string`):

Export JSON, CSV or Excel.

## `summary` (type: `string`):

Completeness, errors and baseline status.

# API

You can run this Actor programmatically using our API. Below are code examples in JavaScript, Python, and CLI, as well as the OpenAPI specification and MCP server setup.

## JavaScript example

```javascript
import { ApifyClient } from 'apify-client';
// Initialize the ApifyClient with your Apify API token
// Replace the '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>' with your token
const client = new ApifyClient({
    token: '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>',
});
// Prepare Actor input
const input = {
    "feeds": [
        "https://feeds.bbci.co.uk/news/rss.xml",
        "https://www.theverge.com/rss/index.xml"
    ]
};
// Run the Actor and wait for it to finish
const run = await client.actor("hadi.kanj/feed-signal-proof").call(input);
// Fetch and print Actor results from the run's dataset (if any)
console.log('Results from dataset');
console.log(`💾 Check your data here: https://console.apify.com/storage/datasets/${run.defaultDatasetId}`);
const { items } = await client.dataset(run.defaultDatasetId).listItems();
items.forEach((item) => {
    console.dir(item);
});
