## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

## Glassdoor Reviews Scraper — Company Ratings & Employee Reviews

Scrape **company ratings and employee reviews from [Glassdoor](https://www.glassdoor.com/)**. For any company you get the full **rating breakdown** — overall score, culture, work-life balance, compensation, career, diversity and senior-leadership sub-ratings, **CEO approval**, **recommend-to-a-friend %** and the total review count — plus **employee reviews** with pros, cons, advice, job title, location and date.

Enter a company name (or a Glassdoor URL / employer id), press **Start**, and download the results as **JSON, CSV, Excel, HTML or XML**. No API key required.

***

### Why scrape Glassdoor reviews?

Glassdoor is the most recognized source of employer ratings and employee sentiment. This data is valuable for:

- **Employer branding & HR intelligence** — benchmark your company's rating, CEO approval and sub-scores against competitors.
- **Competitive & market research** — compare dozens of companies on culture, compensation, work-life balance and diversity in one spreadsheet.
- **Recruiting & talent teams** — understand how a target employer is perceived before approaching candidates.
- **Investment & due diligence** — track employee sentiment and leadership approval as a signal.
- **Candidates & career tools** — summarize what employees say they love and hate about a company.

***

### Features

- ⭐ **Full rating breakdown** — overall rating, review count, recommend %, CEO approval %, business-outlook %, plus sub-ratings for culture & values, work-life balance, compensation & benefits, career opportunities, diversity & inclusion and senior leadership. Includes the rated CEO's name.
- 📝 **Employee reviews** — title (summary), pros, cons, advice to management, overall star rating and per-category star ratings, reviewer job title, location, employment status, length of employment, current/former, review date and helpful count.
- 🏢 **Flexible input** — a company **name** (resolved automatically), a **Glassdoor review URL**, or an **employer id**. Scrape many companies in one run.
- ⚡ **Handles Cloudflare for you** — passes Glassdoor's protection automatically; no setup needed.
- 🔓 **Optional deep reviews** — supply your own Glassdoor login cookie to page past the public preview (see below).

***

### Input

| Field | Type | Description |
|-------|------|-------------|
| `company` | array of strings | Companies to scrape — a name (`Google`), a Glassdoor review URL (`…/Reviews/Google-Reviews-E9079.htm`) or an employer id (`9079`). |
| `maxReviews` | integer | Max individual reviews to save **per company** (default 10). See the note on coverage below. |
| `loginCookie` | string (secret) | Optional. Your Glassdoor session cookie, to collect reviews beyond the public first page (see *Review coverage*). |
| `proxyConfiguration` | object | Proxy settings. **Residential is strongly recommended.** Defaults to Apify Residential. |

#### Example input

```json
{
  "company": ["Google", "Microsoft", "Amazon"],
  "maxReviews": 10,
  "proxyConfiguration": { "useApifyProxy": true, "apifyProxyGroups": ["RESIDENTIAL"] }
}
```

***

### Review coverage — please read

Glassdoor shows the **complete rating breakdown** for every company to everyone, but it only serves the **first page of individual reviews** (a few per company) to **logged-out** visitors. The rest are behind Glassdoor's login wall.

- **Anonymous (default):** you always get the full company rating breakdown + the first page of reviews for each company. This is perfect for **rating benchmarking across many companies**.
- **Deep reviews (optional):** to collect more reviews per company, paste your own Glassdoor session cookie into `loginCookie`. Copy the `cookie` header from a logged-in Glassdoor request (browser DevTools → Network). Use your own account responsibly and in line with Glassdoor's Terms.

Every row includes the company's rating data, so even in anonymous mode a multi-company run gives you a rich employer-rating dataset.

***

### Output

One row per review (each row also carries the company's rating context). If a company has no individual reviews accessible, a single row with its rating breakdown is still saved.

### How it works

Glassdoor is protected by a Cloudflare challenge. This actor passes it for you: it opens Glassdoor once with a real browser to obtain a verified session, then reuses that session over fast HTTP to load company review pages and extract the embedded data.

Because the verified Cloudflare session is tied to the IP that created it, the browser and all requests run through a single sticky proxy session. For reliability, use **Residential** proxies (the default).

***

### FAQ

**Do I need a Glassdoor account?** No — anonymous mode gives the full rating breakdown and the first page of reviews. Add a `loginCookie` only if you want more reviews per company.

**Can I scrape many companies at once?** Yes — add them all to `company`. Each is resolved and scraped separately.

**Why do I only get a few reviews per company without a login cookie?** That's Glassdoor's login wall for logged-out visitors. The rating breakdown is always complete; use `loginCookie` for deeper review pagination.

**What input formats work?** Company name, Glassdoor review URL, or employer id.

### Legal & ethical use

This actor collects **publicly available** company-rating and review information. Reviews may contain personal opinions — use the data responsibly and in compliance with Glassdoor's Terms of Service and applicable laws (including privacy regulations such as GDPR/CCPA). You are responsible for how you use the output.

# Actor input Schema

## `company` (type: `array`):

One or more companies to scrape. You can enter a <b>company name</b> (e.g. <b>Google</b>, <b>Microsoft</b>), a <b>Glassdoor review URL</b> (e.g. https://www.glassdoor.com/Reviews/Google-Reviews-E9079.htm) or an <b>employer id</b> (e.g. 9079). Leave empty to run a small demo for Google.

## `maxReviews` (type: `integer`):

Maximum number of individual reviews to save per company. Note: without a login cookie (see below), Glassdoor only serves the first page of reviews to anonymous visitors (a few per company) plus the full rating breakdown.

## `loginCookie` (type: `string`):

Optional. Glassdoor shows only the first page of reviews to logged-out users. To collect more reviews per company, paste your own Glassdoor session cookie string here (copy the full `cookie` header from a logged-in Glassdoor request in your browser's DevTools → Network). Leave empty for anonymous mode (rating breakdown + first-page reviews). Use your own account responsibly and per Glassdoor's Terms.

## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):

Glassdoor is protected by Cloudflare. The actor solves the challenge once with a real browser and reuses that session over fast HTTP. Datacenter proxy (default) is cheapest and works well; if you hit more blocks, switch to Residential.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "company": [
    "Google",
  }
}
```

# Actor output Schema

## `datasetItems` (type: `string`):

All extracted company ratings and reviews for this run.

## `overviewTable` (type: `string`):
