## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## CSLB Bond Lapse & Contractor License Suspended Alerts (California)

**CSLB bond lapse events, as they happen.** This actor returns California contractors whose **contractor license bond was cancelled**, whose **workers' comp policy was cancelled or expired**, or whose **contractor license was suspended**, **expired** or **reinstated**. Each row is one event built from the Contractors State License Board (CSLB) public License Master file: license number, business, trades, city, county, phone, the surety or insurer, the dates involved and a **90-day reinstatement clock**. Filter by event type, county and age, and export CSV, JSON or Excel.

A CSLB license lookup tells you about one license you already know. This actor tells you **which licenses just changed**. A contractor without a valid bond or workers' comp on file cannot legally keep working, so these are the businesses that need a replacement bond or policy this week.

### Searches this actor answers

- **"CSLB bond lapse"** / **"contractor bond cancelled California"**: `eventTypes: ["bond_cancelled"]`. Most rows are still pending (`pending: true`): the surety's cancellation notice is on file and the license will be suspended on `effectiveDate` unless a new bond is filed.
- **"contractor license suspended"** / **"CSLB suspended license list"**: `eventTypes: ["suspended"]`. `reason` gives the CSLB status, e.g. Contr Bond Susp, Work Comp Susp, Liab Ins Susp.
- **"workers comp cancelled contractor California"**: `eventTypes: ["wc_cancelled", "wc_expired"]`.
- **"CSLB expired license"** and **"contractor license reinstated"**: `expired`, `reinstated`.

### Who it is for

- **Surety bond agencies and producers**: contractors whose bond the current surety is cancelling, often weeks before the date. That is the window in which a replacement bond keeps the license clear.
- **Workers' comp and commercial insurance agents**: contractors whose policy was cancelled or ran out without a renewal on file.
- **GCs, property managers and platforms that vet subs**: know when a sub you use loses its bond or comp.
- **Agent and automation builders**: a clean, flat, dated event stream to schedule, filter by county and feed into a CRM, dialer queue or AI agent.

### Sample output

Real rows from the week of 2026-10-19 (phones and the CSLB link omitted here; every row has them):

| eventType | licenseNo | businessName | classifications | city | county | eventDate | effectiveDate | pending | suretyOrInsurer / reason |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| bond_cancelled | 1071990 | FISHER GLASS INC | C17 | ENCINITAS | San Diego | 2026-10-19 | 2026-12-21 | true | TRAVELERS CASUALTY AND SURETY COMPANY OF AMERICA |
| wc_cancelled | 1091937 | SAN DIEGO TREE MAINTENANCE & LANDSCAPE | C27, D49 | ESCONDIDO | San Diego | 2026-10-19 | 2026-11-16 | true | STATE COMPENSATION INSURANCE FUND |
| suspended | 1081367 | APPLIED RESTORATION INC | B, C33 | EL CAJON | San Diego | 2026-10-19 | 2026-10-19 | false | Contr Bond Susp |
| wc_expired | 849959 | E F X HOME THEATERS & SECURITY | C-7 | GALT | Sacramento | 2026-10-19 | 2026-08-25 | false | PIE INSURANCE COMPANY (THE) |
| reinstated | 737829 | D MITCHELL CONSTRUCTION | B | LA VERNE | Los Angeles | 2026-10-19 | | false | |

Volume: in the latest week, about 465 bond cancellations, 340 suspensions and 245 workers' comp cancellations statewide, plus expiries and reinstatements.

### What an event is

| eventType | what happened |
|---|---|
| `bond_cancelled` | The surety filed a cancellation on the contractor's license bond. A future `effectiveDate` means the notice is on file and the license will be suspended on that date unless a replacement bond is filed. |
| `wc_cancelled` | The insurer cancelled the workers' comp policy on file (future date = notice on file). |
| `wc_expired` | The policy reached its expiration date and the license now shows no current workers' comp. |
| `suspended` | The license status is no longer clear. `reason` gives the CSLB status. |
| `expired` | The license passed its expiration date without a renewal on file. |
| `revoked` | The license dropped out of the active file before its expiration date (revoked, cancelled or made inactive; the file does not say which). |
| `reinstated` | The license came back to active status. |
| `bond_changed`, `wc_exempt_to_insured` | A replacement bond was filed, or a contractor that was exempt now carries workers' comp (it hired employees). |

One license can produce two events at once, for example `bond_cancelled` and `suspended`.

### The 90-day reinstatement clock

`reinstateBy` is the effective date plus 90 days, and `daysLeft` counts down to it from the day you run the actor. California generally lets a contractor cure a bond or workers' comp lapse, or a late renewal, retroactively if they act within a limited window, which this clock approximates. Treat it as a planning date for your outreach, not as legal advice: confirm the CSLB's current rules for the specific case before quoting it to a client. When the effective date on file is old, `daysLeft` can already be negative.

### Input

All fields are optional. This example returns this week's bond and workers' comp lapses in two counties:

```json
{
  "days": 7,
  "eventTypes": ["bond_cancelled", "wc_cancelled", "wc_expired"],
  "counties": ["Los Angeles", "Orange"],
  "maxResults": 500
}
```

- `days`: events from the last N days (default 14, up to 90).
- `eventTypes`: which event types to return. The default is the five lapse types (bond cancelled, WC cancelled, WC expired, suspended, expired). An empty list returns every type.
- `counties`: California county names. Empty means statewide.
- `maxResults`: stop after this many rows, newest first (default 100).

### Output

One row per event, newest first. Full example row:

```json
{
  "eventType": "wc_cancelled",
  "licenseNo": "742782",
  "businessName": "S B S CORPORATION",
  "businessType": "Corporation",
  "classifications": "A, B",
  "city": "CAMARILLO",
  "county": "Ventura",
  "zip": "93012",
  "phone": "(805) 494 4363",
  "licenseStatus": "CLEAR",
  "eventDate": "2026-10-19",
  "effectiveDate": "2026-11-20",
  "pending": true,
  "reinstateBy": "2027-02-18",
  "daysLeft": 118,
  "reason": null,
  "suretyOrInsurer": "STATE COMPENSATION INSURANCE FUND",
  "bondNumber": null,
  "bondAmount": null,
  "bulkMove": false,
  "source": "single-file read",
  "url": "https://www2.cslb.ca.gov/OnlineServices/CheckLicenseII/LicenseDetail.aspx?LicNum=742782"
}
```

- `eventDate`: when the CSLB record changed. `effectiveDate`: the cancellation, expiration or suspension date on file. `pending`: the effective date is still in the future.
- `bulkMove`: true when the same surety filed more than 200 cancellations for the same date, which usually means a surety moving its whole book rather than individual lapses. Filter these out for outreach.
- `source`: `file-to-file change` when the event was found by comparing two consecutive CSLB files, `single-file read` when it was read from the dates in one file.
- `url`: the contractor's official CSLB license detail page. Check it before you contact anyone.

### For agent builders

Run it on a schedule (twice a week matches the source refresh) or call it from the Apify API or Apify's MCP server with the JSON input above. Rows are flat and typed, dates are ISO `YYYY-MM-DD`, and `licenseNo` plus `eventType` plus `effectiveDate` is a stable key for de-duplicating across runs. A good agent prompt: take `pending: true` rows with `daysLeft` above 30, group by county, and draft one short, honest note per contractor that names the bond or policy and the date.

### Pricing

Pay per result: each event row is one billable result at **$0.02** ($20 per 1,000). There is no monthly fee and no charge for runs that return nothing. The default run returns at most 100 rows ($2). A typical weekly pull of one large county's bond and workers' comp lapses is 50 to 150 rows ($1 to $3). Apify's free plan includes a monthly platform credit, which covers roughly your first 250 rows each month, so you can judge the data before paying anything. Set a maximum charge on the run for a hard ceiling.

### Limits

- Source: the CSLB public License Master file, which the publisher downloads about twice a week. An event can be a few days old when it appears, and a lapse that is opened and fixed between two downloads is never seen.
- The first weeks of events were read from the dates inside one file (`single-file read`), which dates suspensions by the last change to the record. Events found by comparing consecutive files (`file-to-file change`) are exact to the refresh.
- `revoked` versus `expired` is inferred from the expiration date of a license that left the file. Check the license detail page before telling anyone their license was revoked.
- Phones are the public business phones from the CSLB file. You are responsible for how you contact these businesses, including the TCPA, CAN-SPAM, the National Do Not Call Registry and California telemarketing rules.
- Public record published by the State of California. This actor is not affiliated with or endorsed by the CSLB.

### FAQ

**Is this a CSLB license lookup?** No. It is the change feed: which licenses just lost a bond or workers' comp, or were suspended. For the licenses coming up for renewal, see the companion California contractor licenses expiring actor by the same publisher.

**Why does one contractor appear twice?** A bond cancellation and the suspension it causes are separate events.

**Can I get only contractors I can still help?** Yes: keep `pending: true` rows, or rows with a positive `daysLeft`.
