## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Contractor License Lookup: Verify WA, OR and TX Licenses

**Contractor License Verifier** checks contractor licenses in Washington, Oregon and Texas in one run. Give it a license number or a business name (partial matches work) and get back one flat row per license: status, license type, classification, issue and expiry dates, bond company and amount, insurance company and amount, location and a link to the licensing board. It reads the official state open-data portals (Washington L\&I, Oregon CCB, Texas TDLR), so there is no login, browser or form scraping.

### Input

```json
{
  "queries": ["roofing"],
  "states": ["WA", "OR", "TX"],
  "activeOnly": true,
  "maxResultsPerQuery": 25
}
```

- `queries`: license numbers or business names. Each entry is matched (partial, case-insensitive) against license number and business name (Texas also matches owner name).
- `states`: any of `WA`, `OR`, `TX` (default all three).
- `activeOnly`: skip expired, cancelled or suspended licenses (default false).
- `maxResultsPerQuery`: upper limit of rows per query per state, 1 to 500 (default 10).

### Output

One row per license. Real example row from the Oregon dataset:

```json
{
  "state": "OR",
  "licensingBoard": "Oregon Construction Contractors Board",
  "licenseNumber": "261776",
  "businessName": "MORI COMMERCIAL ROOFING SOLUTIONS LLC",
  "licenseType": "CGC2",
  "classification": "Commercial General Contractor Level 2",
  "status": "Active",
  "issueDate": "2026-05-21",
  "expiryDate": "2028-05-21",
  "bondCompany": "WESTERN SURETY COMPANY",
  "bondAmount": 25000,
  "bondExpiryDate": "2028-05-21",
  "insuranceCompany": "CRUM & FORSTER SPECIALTY INS CO",
  "insuranceAmount": 1000000,
  "insuranceExpiryDate": "2027-03-30",
  "city": "PORTLAND",
  "zip": "97239",
  "county": "Multnomah",
  "query": "roofing",
  "url": "https://www.oregon.gov/ccb/Pages/search.aspx",
  "checkedAt": "2026-10-14T20:00:00.000Z"
}
```

### Use cases

Search phrases this actor is built for:

- **"Verify contractor license in Washington, Oregon or Texas"**: put your shortlist of names in `queries` and compare all three states at once.
- **"Check contractor license status by number or business name"**: read `status` and `expiryDate`; add `activeOnly` to drop lapsed licenses.
- **"Contractor license lookup with bond and insurance expiry"**: read `bondAmount`, `bondExpiryDate`, `insuranceAmount` and `insuranceExpiryDate` for Washington and Oregon.

Typical users are general contractors and property managers vetting subcontractors, surety and insurance teams re-checking at renewal, and directories that re-verify listings. It also works as a tool for AI agents through the Apify MCP server.

### Pricing

Pay per result: each license record returned is one billable result, listed at $0.002 per record ($2 per 1,000). No subscription. Set a maximum charge on the run for a hard ceiling.

### Limits

- Only Washington, Oregon and Texas are supported. For new California licenses see the CA new contractor licenses actor by the same publisher.
- Texas does not publish bond or insurance data in its open dataset, so those fields are `null` for Texas rows.
- The Oregon dataset contains only active licenses. The Texas status is derived from the expiry date.
- Freshness follows each state's open-data refresh. Confirm critical decisions with the licensing board using the `url` column; this is not legal advice.

### FAQ

**Where does the data come from?** Washington L\&I (data.wa.gov), Oregon CCB (data.oregon.gov) and Texas TDLR (data.texas.gov) open data.

**Why are Texas bond fields empty?** Texas does not publish them in its open dataset.

**Can I search by license number?** Yes. License numbers and business names go in the same `queries` list.
