## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## New DOT leads: newly registered FMCSA motor carriers with phone and email

Every trucking company that just got a new USDOT number, straight from the FMCSA Company Census, with the business phone and email the carrier filed. These are the new motor carrier registrations that truck insurance agents, factoring companies and ELD, fuel-card and compliance vendors call in a carrier's first weeks. Pick how many days back, optionally one state, and get a clean list you can export to CSV or Excel.

### Who buys new DOT leads

- **Truck insurance agents**: a new authority has to bind liability and cargo cover before it can haul. Reach it before the big lead lists do.
- **Factoring companies**: new carriers have no credit history and 30 to 60 day receivables.
- **ELD, fuel-card, dash-cam and dispatch vendors**: every new interstate carrier needs an ELD and fuel.
- **Compliance filers**: UCR, BOC-3, IFTA, drug-and-alcohol consortium and MC authority services sell on day one.

### What each row has

| Column | What it is |
|---|---|
| usdotNumber | The new USDOT number |
| legalName, dbaName | Company name and doing-business-as name |
| addedDate | Date FMCSA added the USDOT number (the registration date) |
| carrierType | Operating classification, for example AUTHORIZED FOR HIRE or PRIVATE PROPERTY |
| city, state, zip | Physical (principal place of business) address |
| phone, cellPhone | Business phone and cell, 10 digits, as filed |
| email | Business email, as filed |
| powerUnits, totalDrivers | Trucks and drivers reported |
| hazmat | true when the carrier declared hazardous materials |
| status | FMCSA status code |
| url | The carrier's public FMCSA SAFER snapshot page |

In a typical week about 1,800 new carriers register, and nearly all of them filed a phone and an email.

### Real sample: 5 carriers registered 2026-10-15 to 2026-10-21

| usdotNumber | legalName | addedDate | carrierType | city | state | phone | email | powerUnits | totalDrivers |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|

Emails are shortened to the domain in this listing only. The Actor returns the full address.

### How to use

1. Set **Days back** (default 7). Optionally set **State** (for example TX) and tick **Authorized for hire only**.
2. For a daily lead feed, tick **Only new since last run** and schedule the Actor daily. Each run then returns only USDOT numbers you have not seen before.
3. Export the dataset as CSV, Excel or JSON, or pull it from the API.

### Pricing

$2 per 1,000 rows ($0.002 per carrier). You pay only for rows returned. A full week of new carriers costs about $4.

### API and agent usage

Call the Apify API endpoint `run-sync-get-dataset-items` for this Actor with a JSON body such as `{"daysBack":3,"state":"TX"}`. MCP clients can call the Actor through the Apify MCP server.

### FAQ

**Where does the data come from?** The FMCSA Company Census File (dataset az4n-8mr2 on data.transportation.gov), a US federal public record. This Actor is independent and not affiliated with FMCSA or USDOT.

**How fresh is it?** As fresh as the DOT publishes, normally within a day or two of registration.

**Are phone and email always filled?** No. They appear only when the carrier provided them. Contact details are as filed and not verified by FMCSA.

**Does a row mean the carrier has operating authority?** Not necessarily. A USDOT number is a registration. Check authority status separately.

**Can I contact these carriers?** Yes, but follow the TCPA, do-not-call, CAN-SPAM and state rules that apply to you.
