## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Texas Nurse and Physician License Verification (RN, MD, PA)

**Healthcare License Verifier** checks Texas nurse (RN) and physician or physician-assistant licenses by last name, first name or license number and returns one clean row per licensee: license number, type, status, issue and expiry dates, disciplinary status and a board-action flag. It reads the Texas open data portal (data.texas.gov): the Texas Board of Nursing RN register and the Texas Medical Board licensure file. Coverage is Texas only. There is no login or API key, and addresses and birth years are not returned.

### Input

Set `profession` to `nurse` or `physician`, then name prefixes or an exact license number. This example lists physicians and PAs named Garcia with disciplinary status:

```json
{
  "profession": "physician",
  "lastName": "Garcia",
  "firstName": "",
  "licenseNumber": "",
  "disciplinaryOnly": true,
  "maxResults": 100
}
```

- `profession`: `nurse` (Texas Board of Nursing RN register) or `physician` (Texas Medical Board: physicians, PAs, allied) (default `nurse`).
- `lastName`: case-insensitive prefix match on last name (default `Smith`).
- `firstName`: optional prefix match on first name.
- `licenseNumber`: exact license number. If set, name filters are ignored.
- `disciplinaryOnly`: return only licensees with a disciplinary status or a current board action (default false).
- `maxResults`: 1 to 5000 (default 50).

### Output

One row per license. Real example row from the nurse register (an inactive license):

```json
{
  "profession": "nurse",
  "licenseNumber": "10000",
  "firstName": "LOTTIE",
  "lastName": "GRAY",
  "licenseType": "Registered Nurse",
  "licenseStatus": "INACTIVE (I)",
  "currentlyLicensed": null,
  "licenseIssueDate": "1927-12-10",
  "licenseExpirationDate": "1982-03-01",
  "disciplinaryStatus": "NONE",
  "hasBoardAction": false,
  "degree": null,
  "state": "TX",
  "url": "https://data.texas.gov/d/tgb2-j935"
}
```

### Use cases

Search phrases this actor is built for:

- **"Verify Texas nurse license"**: set `profession` to `nurse` and search by name or license number.
- **"Check physician license status in Texas by name"**: set `profession` to `physician` and read `licenseStatus`, `licenseExpirationDate` and `currentlyLicensed`.
- **"Healthcare license disciplinary action lookup"**: set `disciplinaryOnly` to true and read `disciplinaryStatus` and `hasBoardAction`.

Typical users are healthcare staffing agencies, credentialing and compliance teams, hospital HR, background-check providers and telehealth operators. It also works as a tool for AI agents through the Apify MCP server.

### Pricing

Pay per result: each license row returned is one billable result, listed at $0.002 per row ($2 per 1,000). No subscription. Set a maximum charge on the run for a hard ceiling.

### Limits

- Texas only, and only the RN register and the Medical Board file. Other professions (LVNs, APRNs as separate licenses, dentists, pharmacists) are not covered.
- Data is whatever the boards publish on the open data portal; it is not primary-source verification for legal purposes. Confirm with the board where required.
- Name search is a prefix match; use `licenseNumber` for an exact lookup.
- `maxResults` is capped at 5,000 per run.

### FAQ

**Is other-state data included?** No, Texas only.

**How current is it?** It follows the boards' open-data refreshes; check the portal for the latest update date.

**Does it return personal contact details?** No. Addresses and year of birth are not returned.
