## What's an Apify Actor?

Actors are web data automations that power AI and operations. They run on the Apify platform to scrape websites, process data, connect APIs, and automate workflows.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.
Actors are written with capital "A".

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.
The best way to integrate Actors is as follows.

- **AI agents and MCP clients** — the [Apify MCP server](https://docs.apify.com/integrations/mcp.md) at `https://mcp.apify.com` (remote, streamable HTTP, OAuth on first use).
- **Agentic workflows and local Actor development** — [Agent Skills](https://apify.com/.well-known/agent-skills/index.json) with the [Apify CLI](https://docs.apify.com/cli/docs.md): `npm install -g apify-cli`, then `apify login`.
- **JavaScript/TypeScript projects** — the official [JS/TS client](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md): `npm install apify-client`.
- **Python projects** — the official [Python client](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md): `pip install apify-client`.
- **Any other language** — the [REST API](https://docs.apify.com/api/v2.md).

For usage examples, see the [API](#api) section below.

# README

## Podcast Scraper — Shows, Rankings & Episodes

Scrape **podcasts by keyword** — **name, author, keyword rank, genre, episode count, artwork and RSS feed** — plus **recent episodes** with title, description, duration and direct audio URL. No API key.

### What you can do with it

- 🔍 **Podcast SEO / discovery** — see who ranks for your target keywords
- 🎯 **Ad & sponsorship prospecting** — find shows by genre and size
- 🕵️ **Competitor tracking** — publishing cadence and episode counts
- 🤖 **Build a podcast dataset** — feeds + episode metadata for search or AI

### Input

| Field | Type | Description |
|-------|------|-------------|
| `searchTerms` | array | Keywords, e.g. `technology`, `true crime`. Each result carries its rank. |
| `podcastIds` | array | Specific Apple Podcasts collection IDs (overrides search). |
| `country` | string | Store country, e.g. `us`, `gb`, `de`. |
| `maxResults` | integer | Max podcasts in total. |
| `includeEpisodes` | boolean | Also fetch recent episodes from each RSS feed. |
| `maxEpisodesPerPodcast` | integer | Episodes per show when enabled. |

#### Example

```json
{ "searchTerms": ["technology", "startups"], "maxResults": 50, "includeEpisodes": true, "maxEpisodesPerPodcast": 10 }
```

### Output

```json
{
  "podcastId": 1727086780,
  "name": "TED Tech",
  "author": "TED Tech",
  "searchTerm": "technology",
  "searchRank": 1,
  "primaryGenre": "Technology",
  "episodeCount": 284,
  "feedUrl": "https://feeds.acast.com/public/shows/...",
  "artwork": "https://is1-ssl.mzstatic.com/....jpg",
  "url": "https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/id1727086780",
  "episodes": [
    {
      "title": "Why AI isn't going to become conscious | Anil Seth",
      "publishedAt": "Fri, 21 Aug 2026 04:00:00 GMT",
      "duration": "19:37",
      "audioUrl": "https://sphinx.acast.com/....mp3"
    }
  ]
}
```

Export to JSON, CSV, Excel, or pull live via the Apify API.

### Notes

- Uses Apple's **public podcast API** plus each show's own **RSS feed** — stable and key-free.
- `searchRank` is the position for that keyword, which is what podcast-SEO tracking needs.
- Enabling episodes fetches one RSS request per show, so large runs take a little longer.

# Actor input Schema

## `searchTerms` (type: `array`):

Keywords to search podcasts for, e.g. "technology", "true crime", "marketing". Each result includes its rank for that keyword.

## `podcastIds` (type: `array`):

Specific Apple Podcasts collection IDs. Overrides the search keywords.

## `country` (type: `string`):

Store country code, e.g. us, gb, de, fr.

## `maxResults` (type: `integer`):

Maximum number of podcasts to return in total.

## `includeEpisodes` (type: `boolean`):

Also fetch recent episodes from each podcast's RSS feed (title, description, duration, audio URL).

## `maxEpisodesPerPodcast` (type: `integer`):

How many recent episodes to fetch when episodes are enabled.

## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):

Optional. Apple's public podcast API works without a proxy.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "searchTerms": [
    "technology"
  ],
  "podcastIds": [],
  "country": "us",
  "maxResults": 10,
  "includeEpisodes": false,
  "maxEpisodesPerPodcast": 5,
  "proxyConfiguration": {
    "useApifyProxy": false
  }
}
```

# Actor output Schema

## `results` (type: `string`):

All scraped items as JSON.
