## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Craigslist Scraper — For Sale, Housing, Cars & Jobs, No Phones

Get listings from craigslist, in any city and any section: **for sale** (cars, furniture, electronics, bikes, free stuff…), **housing** (apartments, rooms, real estate), **jobs**, **gigs** and **services**. Title, price, place, neighborhood, posting date, category, owner or dealer, images, and each section's own data — bedrooms and floor area, odometer, job title, pay and employer. Turn on details for the full description and the attributes (condition, VIN of dealer cars, bathrooms, rent period, employment type…). Paste your craigslist search links, or type cities and keywords.

**Why this one**

- 🔗 **Your search, as you set it up.** Set every filter you like on craigslist — price, make and model, bedrooms, owner or dealer, "has image", distance from a ZIP — and paste the link. Old city-site links (sfbay.craigslist.org/search/…) and the new www.craigslist.org/search/… links both work. One run can mix cities and sections.
- ⚡ **Fast and deep.** A live test run read five searches — New York apartments at $2,000–4,000, SF bay car dealers, Los Angeles furniture, SF bay bicycles and Chicago desks — 8,514 listings in 120 seconds. With every posting opened for its details: 3,000 listings in 111 seconds. craigslist lists up to 10,000 results for one search, and all of them can be read.
- 🔒 **Posters stay anonymous.** Nearly everyone on craigslist is a private person. No names, no reply e-mail or phone, no map point, no street — only the place, neighborhood, town and ZIP code. Phone numbers are taken out of titles and descriptions even when they are hidden from filters ("four one five…", "4I5 555 O123", "347\* 754*87*63", keycap emoji), and so are e-mails ("name at gmail dot com") and first names after "ask for" or "call". Community and resume sections (people's own posts) are not read.
- 💸 **You pay only for listings delivered.** A link that is not a craigslist search, an unknown city or a search without results comes back as a free record with the reason.

### What you get

For every listing:

| Field | What it is |
|---|---|
| `title`, `url`, `listingId` | the posting and its link |
| `section`, `category`, `categoryName` | for sale, housing, jobs, gigs or services, and craigslist's category (`cto` = cars & trucks by owner) |
| `price`, `priceText`, `currency`, `monthlyPayment` | the asking price or rent (USD, CAD, GBP… by city), and a dealer's monthly payment |
| `postedAt` | when it was posted |
| `site`, `subarea`, `place`, `neighborhood` | the craigslist city and sub-area (`sfbay`, `eby`), the place the poster gave, the neighborhood |
| `sellerType` | `owner`, `dealer` or `broker` where craigslist says so |
| `bedrooms`, `floorArea`, `floorAreaUnit` | housing |
| `odometer`, `odometerUnit` | cars and motorbikes |
| `jobTitle`, `compensation`, `company` | jobs and gigs (the company is kept for jobs only) |
| `image`, `images`, `imageCount` | the pictures |
| `input`, `position`, `searchedPlace`, `scrapedAt`, `status`, `error` | which search it came from, and why a search gave nothing |

With **Open every listing for its details**: `description`, `attributes` (condition, cylinders, drive, fuel, odometer, paint color, title status, transmission, type; rent period; compensation, employment type, experience level…), `features` (cats are OK, w/d hookups, delivery available…), `year`, `makeModel`, `bathrooms`, `available`, `city`, `postcode`, `region`, `country`, `employer`, `updatedAt`.

### How to use it

1. Paste **Search links** from craigslist, one per line — any city, any section, with your filters. Or type **Cities** (a craigslist site such as `sfbay`, `newyork`, `toronto`, its name such as "SF bay area", or a sub-area such as "manhattan") with optional **Keywords**, a **Section** and the price, seller, ZIP and sort fields.
2. Set **Max listings per search**. Turn on **Open every listing for its details** if you need the description and the attributes.
3. Press **Start**, and download the results from the **Output** tab as JSON, CSV or Excel.

To follow new listings or prices, sort by newest, save the input as a task and schedule it daily.

You can also call it from the Apify API, from Make, Zapier or n8n, or from an AI agent through the Apify MCP server.

### Pricing

You are charged **per listing delivered** — see the price on this page. Links that are not craigslist searches, unknown cities and searches without results are free.

### FAQ

**How many listings per search?** craigslist lists up to 10,000 results for one search; a live run read all 10,000 SF bay apartments it listed (of 20,893 found) in 221 seconds. For more, split the search by price, sub-area or ZIP distance.

**Which countries?** Every craigslist city: the US, Canada, the UK and the rest. Prices come in the city's currency (a live run: Toronto in CAD, London in GBP).

**Why no phone, e-mail or poster name?** craigslist posters are private people, and their contact details are theirs. Contact numbers written in the text are replaced with `[phone removed]`, e-mails with `[e-mail removed]`, a first name after "ask for"/"call" with `[name removed]`, and a private poster's street with `[address removed]`.

**Why are some results missing that craigslist shows?** When a city has few results, craigslist adds "more from nearby areas" under them; those belong to other cities and are left out. Missed connections, community and resume sections are not read.

**Is this affiliated with craigslist?** No. This is an independent tool that reads public craigslist listings.
