## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Domain Authority & Website Rank Checker — Bulk, Open Data

Check the link strength and web ranking of up to 10,000 domains per run. For every domain you get a **0-100 link strength score**, its **Majestic Million rank** with **referring subnets and referring IPs**, and its position in the **Common Crawl web graph** by harmonic centrality and PageRank. One row per domain, ready for a spreadsheet.

The numbers come from two large open datasets, kept on Apify, with the data date of each in every row. Nothing is scraped from Moz, Ahrefs, Semrush or Similarweb, so there are no logins, no bot walls and no failed runs because a website blocked the scraper.

**Why this one**

- 🧮 **Bulk and quick.** Paste a list of domains or full links: 1,000 domains took 18-26 seconds and 10,000 took 101 seconds in live test runs.
- ✅ **Runs that finish.** The data is already on Apify. No website is visited, so there is nothing to block the run.
- 🔗 **Backlink signals you can trace.** Referring subnets and IPs from the Majestic Million, link-graph ranks from Common Crawl, each with its source, licence and data date in every row.
- 🌍 **Any domain name.** Links, subdomains, `www.`, ports and paths are reduced to the registered domain (news.bbc.co.uk → bbc.co.uk) with the Public Suffix List; internationalised names (bücher.de) work too.
- 💸 **You pay only for domains with data.** Domains that are in neither dataset and inputs that are not domains are free.

### What you get

| Field | What it is |
|---|---|
| `domain`, `domainUnicode` | the registered domain that was looked up (punycode), and its Unicode spelling for internationalised names |
| `linkStrength` | our 0-100 score from the two link rankings below (see how it is calculated) |
| `majesticRank`, `majesticTldRank` | position in the Majestic Million (1 = most referring subnets) and within its top-level domain |
| `majesticRefSubnets`, `majesticRefIPs` | how many distinct IP subnets and IP addresses link to the domain (Majestic) |
| `commonCrawlHarmonicRank` | position by harmonic centrality in the Common Crawl domain graph (1 = most central of ~133 million domains) |
| `commonCrawlPageRankRank` | position by PageRank in the same graph |
| `found` | true when at least one dataset has the domain |
| `dataDates`, `sources` | the data date of each dataset, and for every dataset used in the row: name, licence and its link |
| `input`, `status`, `error`, `checkedAt` | what you gave, OK / NOT\_FOUND / INVALID\_INPUT, why there is no result, when it was checked |

A value is `null` when the dataset does not have the domain: the Majestic Million covers one million domains, the Common Crawl part the 20 million most central ones.

#### Example

```json
{
  "input": "bbc.co.uk",
    }
  ],
```

### How linkStrength is calculated

Each ranking position is turned into points on a log scale, **points = 100 × (1 − log10(rank) / 8)**: rank 1 gets 100, rank 10,000 gets 50, rank 1,000,000 gets 25, and every tenfold step down the ranking costs 12.5 points. `linkStrength` is the mean of the points for the **Common Crawl harmonic-centrality rank** and the **Majestic rank** (Majestic orders its million by the number of referring IP subnets), over the ones the domain has, rounded to a whole number.

**It is our own score, not Moz Domain Authority, Ahrefs Domain Rating or Semrush Authority Score**, and it will not match them. Those are built from private link indexes; this one is built only from open data, and every input to it is in the row, so you can check or recompute it.

### Data sources and attribution

| Dataset | Used for | Licence / terms | Published |
|---|---|---|---|
| [Majestic Million](https://majestic.com/reports/majestic-million) by Majestic-12 Ltd | `majesticRank`, `majesticTldRank`, `majesticRefSubnets`, `majesticRefIPs` | [CC BY 3.0](https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/) | Majestic publishes it daily |
| [Common Crawl web graph](https://commoncrawl.org/web-graphs), domain level | `commonCrawlHarmonicRank`, `commonCrawlPageRankRank` | [Common Crawl Terms of Use](https://commoncrawl.org/terms-of-use) | about monthly; each release covers three months of crawls |

The values are used as published; `linkStrength` is calculated by this Actor from them. The exact data date of each dataset is in every row (`dataDates`, `sources`).

### How to use it

1. Add **Domains**, one per line — names or full links (a column pasted from a spreadsheet works too).
2. Press **Start**.
3. Download the results from the **Output** tab as JSON, CSV or Excel, and sort by `linkStrength`.

Typical uses: rank a list of link prospects or guest-post sites, compare competitors, clean a lead list by site size, or check how strong a domain is before you buy it.

You can also call it from the Apify API, from Make, Zapier or n8n, or from an AI agent through the Apify MCP server.

### Pricing

You are charged **per domain found** — see the price on this page. Domains that are in neither dataset, inputs that are not domain names, and duplicates are free.

### FAQ

**Why is my domain not found?** The Common Crawl part covers the 20 million most central domains on the web and the Majestic Million the million with the most referring subnets. A new site, or one with few links from other sites, is in neither — that itself tells you its link profile is still small. It is not charged.

**Is this Moz DA, Ahrefs DR or Semrush Authority Score?** No. Those tools do not publish their data under an open licence. This Actor gives an open, reproducible alternative built from public datasets; scores will differ.

**Does it check subdomains or pages?** It checks the registered domain of whatever you give: shop.example.co.uk and example.co.uk/page give example.co.uk.

**What about sites on github.io, blogspot.com or vercel.app?** Both datasets rank such a platform as one domain (github.io is among the top 50), not the sites on it. A site like someone.github.io is therefore reported as not found, with that reason, and not charged; it never gets the platform's numbers.

**How fresh is it?** The data date of each source is in every row (`dataDates`). Link graphs change slowly, so ranks that are a few weeks old still compare domains well.

# Actor input Schema

## `domains` (type: `array`):

Domain names or website links, one per line (apify.com, https://www.bbc.co.uk/news). Subdomains and pages are checked as their registered domain (news.bbc.co.uk -> bbc.co.uk); a site on a shared platform stays itself (myblog.blogspot.com). Up to 10,000 different domains per run.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "domains": [
    "apify.com",
    "bbc.co.uk",
    "wikipedia.org",
    "github.com",
    "nytimes.com"
  ]
}
```

# Actor output Schema

## `results` (type: `string`):

Every result as a JSON record, with a status for each input.

## `resultsCsv` (type: `string`):

The same records as CSV, for a spreadsheet.
