## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

## Domain Checker — WHOIS, DNS, SSL & Expiry Dates in Bulk

Check many domains at once: who the registrar is, when the domain was registered and when it expires, its status and name servers; its DNS records with SPF and DMARC; its SSL certificate — issuer, expiry, days left, trusted or not; and where the website ends up after redirects. One row per domain.

**Why this one**

- 📅 **Expiry dates you can act on.** Domain expiry and SSL expiry, with days left, for every domain — ready for a renewal reminder.
- 🧾 **Straight from the registries.** Registration data comes from each registry's official RDAP service (1,202 TLDs, found through IANA's directory). Subdomains are checked against their registered parent.
- ✉️ **Email set-up at a glance.** MX, SPF and DMARC with its policy (none / quarantine / reject).
- 🔒 **SSL problems spelled out.** Expired, self-signed or untrusted certificates are reported with the reason.
- ⚡ **Fast.** 20 domains in 5 seconds in a live test run.
- 🧑‍⚖️ **No personal data.** Registrant names, emails and phone numbers are never read or delivered — only registrar, dates, status and name servers.

### What you get

For every domain:

| Field | What it is |
|---|---|
| `domain`, `registrationDomain` | the name checked, and the registered name the registry answered for |
| `registered`, `registrar`, `registrarIanaId` | registration |
| `createdAt`, `updatedAt`, `expiresAt`, `daysToExpiry` | registration dates |
| `domainStatus`, `nameservers`, `dnssec` | registry status codes, name servers, DNSSEC |
| `a`, `aaaa`, `mx`, `ns`, `txt`, `caa`, `resolves` | DNS records |
| `spf`, `dmarc`, `dmarcPolicy` | email authentication |
| `sslIssuer`, `sslValidFrom`, `sslValidTo`, `sslDaysLeft`, `sslValid`, `sslError`, `sslNames` | the certificate |
| `httpStatus`, `finalUrl`, `redirects`, `server`, `httpError` | where https://domain ends up |
| `registrationUnavailable`, `partialErrors` | when a part could not be checked, and why |
| `input`, `checkedAt`, `status`, `error` | what you gave and when it was checked |

#### Example

A real record from a live run, 24 September 2026 (DNS records shortened):

```json
{
  "domain": "apify.com",
  "registrationDomain": "apify.com",
  "registered": true,
  "registrar": "Amazon Registrar, Inc.",
  "createdAt": "2009-06-02T17:14:10Z",
  "expiresAt": "2035-06-02T17:14:10Z",
  "domainStatus": ["client transfer prohibited"],
  "mx": ["1 aspmx.l.google.com", "5 alt1.aspmx.l.google.com"],
  "dmarcPolicy": "reject",
  "sslIssuer": "Amazon",
  "sslValidTo": "2027-01-16T23:59:59.000Z",
  "sslDaysLeft": 114,
  "sslValid": true,
  "httpStatus": 200,
  "finalUrl": "https://apify.com",
  "redirects": 0,
  "status": "OK"
}
```

### How to use it

1. Add **Domains**, one per line — names or website links.
2. Keep the checks you need: **Registration**, **DNS records**, **SSL certificate**, **Website**.
3. Press **Start**, and download the results from the **Output** tab as JSON, CSV or Excel.

To watch expiry dates, save your list as a task and schedule it weekly, then filter on `daysToExpiry` and `sslDaysLeft`.

You can also call it from the Apify API, from Make, Zapier or n8n, or from an AI agent through the Apify MCP server.

### Pricing

You are charged **per domain checked** — see the price on this page. Inputs that are not domain names are free.

### FAQ

**Why is registration data missing for some domains?** Some country registries — .de and .hu among them — offer no RDAP service, and their older WHOIS services restrict automated use. Those domains get DNS, SSL and website data, and `registrationUnavailable` says why.

**Does it show who owns a domain?** No. Owner contact details are personal data and are mostly hidden by registries anyway.

**Like it?** A short review on the Store page helps other people find this Actor. Something missing or broken? Tell us on the Issues tab — we read every one.

# Actor input Schema

## `domains` (type: `array`):

Domain names or website links, one per line (apify.com, https://www.bbc.co.uk).

## `checkRegistration` (type: `boolean`):

Registrar, created / updated / expiry dates, status, name servers, DNSSEC — from the registry's RDAP service. Registrant contacts are never collected.

## `checkDns` (type: `boolean`):

A, AAAA, MX, NS, TXT and CAA records, SPF and DMARC.

## `checkSsl` (type: `boolean`):

Issuer, validity dates, days left and whether it is trusted.

Where https://<domain> ends up: status, final URL, number of redirects, server.

## `maxConcurrency` (type: `integer`):

How many domains to check at the same time.

## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):

Used only when a registry turns a request down: the first try goes out directly.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
    "apify.com",
    "bbc.co.uk"
  ],
  "checkRegistration": true,
Every result as a JSON record, with a status for each input.
## `resultsCsv` (type: `string`):
