## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## RSS & Atom Feed Reader — Any Feed or Website, One Clean List

Read any number of RSS, Atom, RDF or JSON feeds into one clean list — title, link, publish date, author, categories, summary, full content and image. Don't know the feed address? Give the website: its feed is found from the page.

**Why this one**

- 🌐 **Websites work too.** Paste `blog.cloudflare.com` or `theverge.com` and the feed the site announces is found and read — comment feeds and API links it also announces are ignored.
- 🧩 **Every feed format, one shape.** RSS 2.0, Atom, RDF and JSON Feed come out with the same fields, dates in ISO 8601 and text without HTML.
- 📰 **Full content when the feed has it.** `content:encoded`, Atom content and JSON Feed content as plain text, plus podcast enclosures and images.
- ⚡ **Fast.** Five feeds, 94 items, 3.5 seconds in a live test run.
- 💸 **You pay only for items delivered.** A page with no feed, a dead link, or items older than your date are free.

### What you get

For every item:

| Field | What it is |
|---|---|
| `title`, `link`, `id` | the item |
| `published`, `updated` | dates, ISO 8601 |
| `author`, `categories` | byline and tags |
| `summary`, `content` | the description and the full content, as plain text |
| `image`, `enclosure` | a picture, and a podcast or media file |
| `feedTitle`, `feedUrl`, `feedFormat` | which feed: rss, atom, rdf or json |
| `input`, `position`, `scrapedAt`, `status`, `error` | what you gave, the item's place in the feed, and why an input gave nothing |

#### Example

A real record from a live run, 24 September 2026 (content shortened):

```json
{
  "input": "https://github.blog/feed/",
  "feedTitle": "The GitHub Blog",
  "feedFormat": "rss",
  "title": "Rendering huge pull requests in the GitHub Copilot app",
  "link": "https://github.blog/engineering/user-experience/rendering-huge-pull-requests-in-the-github-copilot-app/",
  "published": "2026-09-23T18:29:49.000Z",
  "status": "OK"
}
```

### How to use it

1. Add **Feeds or websites**, one per line.
2. Optionally set **Published since** to skip older items, and **Max items per feed**.
3. Press **Start**, and download the results from the **Output** tab as JSON, CSV or Excel.

To follow a set of blogs or news sources, save your input as a task and schedule it hourly or daily with **Published since** set to yesterday — or plug it into Make, Zapier or n8n.

You can also call it from the Apify API or from an AI agent through the Apify MCP server.

### Pricing

You are charged **per item delivered** — see the price on this page. Inputs without a feed and skipped older items are free.

### FAQ

**How many items does a feed have?** As many as its publisher puts in it — often the latest 10 to 50. A feed is not an archive.

**Why did a website come back as `NOT_FOUND`?** It does not announce a feed in its page. Look for an RSS icon or a /feed or /rss address and paste that.

**Like it?** A short review on the Store page helps other people find this Actor. Something missing or broken? Tell us on the Issues tab — we read every one.

# Actor input Schema

## `feeds` (type: `array`):

Feed links (RSS, Atom, RDF or JSON Feed) or website addresses — a website's own feed is found from its page. One per line.

## `maxItemsPerFeed` (type: `integer`):

Stops each feed after this many items.

## `publishedSince` (type: `string`):

Optional, YYYY-MM-DD: skip older items (free).

## `includeContent` (type: `boolean`):

Include the item's full content as plain text when the feed carries it.

## `maxConcurrency` (type: `integer`):

How many feeds to read at the same time.

## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):

Used only to try again after a network error: the first try goes out directly.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "feeds": [
    "https://github.blog/feed/",
    "https://www.theverge.com"
  ],
  "maxItemsPerFeed": 20,
  "includeContent": true,
  "maxConcurrency": 5,
  "proxyConfiguration": {
    "useApifyProxy": true
  }
}
```

# Actor output Schema

## `results` (type: `string`):

Every result as a JSON record, with a status for each input.

## `resultsCsv` (type: `string`):

The same records as CSV, for a spreadsheet.

// Initialize the ApifyClient with your Apify API token
// Replace the '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>' with your token
const client = new ApifyClient({
    token: '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>',
});

// Prepare Actor input
const input = {
    "feeds": [

    ],
    "maxItemsPerFeed": 20,
    "proxyConfiguration": {
        "useApifyProxy": true
    }
};

// Run the Actor and wait for it to finish
const run = await client.actor("highbrow_fame/rss-feed-reader").call(input);

// Fetch and print Actor results from the run's dataset (if any)
console.log('Results from dataset');
console.log(`💾 Check your data here: https://console.apify.com/storage/datasets/${run.defaultDatasetId}`);
const { items } = await client.dataset(run.defaultDatasetId).listItems();
items.forEach((item) => {
