## Pricing

from $1.50 / 1,000 post or comments

This Actor is paid per event. You are not charged for the Apify platform usage, but only a fixed price for specific events.
Since this Actor supports Apify Store discounts, the price gets lower the higher subscription plan you have.

## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Reddit Scraper: Posts, Comments, Search & Monitoring

This Reddit scraper collects **Reddit posts and comments** from any subreddit, from Reddit search (all of Reddit or inside one subreddit) and from post links. Every post comes with **score, upvote ratio, comments count, flair, author, time, text, link and thumbnail**, and comments come as full threads with **author, text, score, depth and parent**. A built-in **only-new monitoring mode** turns it into a daily brand, competitor or keyword alert, with no login and no Reddit API key.

### What you can use it for

- **Reddit brand monitoring:** search your brand or product every day and get only the posts you have not seen yet.
- **Subreddit scraping for market research:** see what people ask, complain about and recommend in your niche.
- **Lead generation:** search Reddit for people asking for the kind of tool or service you sell.
- **Reddit comments for AI and NLP datasets:** clean post and comment text for training, RAG, sentiment and topic analysis.
- **Content research:** top posts by subreddit and time range, with scores and comment counts.

### How to use

1. Open the [Reddit Scraper](https://apify.com/himanshu-data/reddit-posts-comments-scraper) page and click **Try for free** (you sign in to your Apify account).
2. Add subreddits, search keywords or post links.
3. Pick a sort and time range, and turn on **Include comments** if you want comment threads.
4. Click **Start**. Posts and comments appear in the **Output** tab.
5. Export as JSON, CSV or Excel.

**API:** `POST https://api.apify.com/v2/acts/himanshu-data~reddit-posts-comments-scraper/run-sync-get-dataset-items?token=<YOUR_APIFY_TOKEN>` with the input as JSON in the body returns the rows in one call.

### Input

| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
| Subreddits | Names or links, e.g. `india`, `r/startups`. |
| Subreddit sort | Hot, New, Top or Rising. |
| Search Reddit | Keywords or phrases. |
| Search only inside this subreddit | Leave empty to search all of Reddit. |
| Search sort | Relevance, New, Top or Most comments. |
| Time range | Past hour to all time, for Top and for search. |
| Post links | Scrape specific posts directly. |
| Max posts per subreddit or search | About 24 posts per page. |
| Include comments | Opens each post and adds its comments as extra rows (also fills in the full text of search results). |
| Max comments per post | Best comments first, replies included. |
| Only posts after | Skip older posts. |
| Only new posts | Monitoring mode: returns only posts it has not returned before. With New sort it stops at the first known post. |

```json
{
  "subreddits": ["india", "startups"],
  "sort": "top",
  "timeFilter": "week",
  "searchQueries": ["iphone 17"],
  "maxPostsPerSource": 50,
  "includeComments": true,
  "maxCommentsPerPost": 30
}
```

### Output

Posts and comments in one dataset, marked by `type` (real output, October 2026; text shortened).

A post:

```json
{
  "type": "post",
  "id": "1x9u1kp",
  "url": "https://www.reddit.com/r/india/comments/1x9u1kp/what_is_it_like_to_dial_100112_honestly_my/",
  "title": "What is it like to dial 100/112? Honestly, my experience was amazing.",
  "text": "I'm not sure how responsive 911 is in the US, but my experience with India's 112 emergency helpline was genuinely amazing...",
  "author": "akki_kumar4",
  "subreddit": "india",
  "score": 714,
  "upvoteRatio": 0.979,
  "commentsCount": 36,
  "createdAt": "2026-10-19T11:13:07.656Z",
  "postType": "text",
  "flair": "Law & Courts",
  "awards": 1,
  "rank": 8,
  "source": "r/india"
}
```

A comment:

```json
{
  "type": "comment",
  "id": "phu9ewh",
  "postId": "1xajajk",
  "parentId": "phu6c79",
  "parentType": "comment",
  "url": "https://www.reddit.com/r/AppleIndia/comments/1xajajk/comment/phu9ewh/",
  "author": "GoodatNothing23",
  "text": "Still it doesn’t matter bro , once you unbox it price drops",
  "score": 1,
  "depth": 2,
  "createdAt": "2026-10-20T05:35:19.593Z",
  "subreddit": "AppleIndia",
  "postTitle": "iPhone 17 pro silver 256GB with CC 6",
  "source": "search: iphone 17"
}
```

Link posts carry `link`, `domain` and `thumbnail` instead of text. Search results include text when **Include comments** is on, because the full text lives on the post page.

### Monitoring (only new posts)

Turn on **Only new posts**, pick **New** sort, and schedule the Actor (for example every morning). Each run returns just the posts it has not returned before, so you can send them to Slack, email, Google Sheets or a CRM through Apify integrations, Make, n8n or Zapier. Use a different **Monitor name** for each separate monitor.

### Pricing

**$2 per 1,000 results** (a result is one post or one comment) on paid Apify plans, less on Scale and Business. Set a spending limit per run and the Actor stops cleanly when it is reached.

### Integrations

- **Apify API** to start runs and read posts and comments from any language.
- **Python and JavaScript clients** (`apify-client`) for scripts, notebooks and pipelines.
- **Zapier, Make and n8n** to send new posts to Slack, email, Google Sheets or a CRM.
- **MCP for AI agents:** connect the Apify MCP server to Claude, ChatGPT or another MCP client and the agent can read Reddit through this Actor.
- **Schedules and webhooks** in Apify Console for daily or hourly monitoring.

### FAQ

**Do I need a Reddit account or a Reddit API key?**
No. You only need an Apify account. You never create a Reddit app or enter Reddit credentials.

**How many posts and comments can I get?**
Up to 10,000 posts per subreddit or search, and up to 10,000 comments per post. Reddit serves about 24 posts per page, so big runs take longer.

**Why did I get fewer posts than I asked for?**
Reddit lists only so many posts for one subreddit sort or search, and **Only posts after**, **Only new posts** and the time range skip older posts. NSFW posts are left out unless you turn them on. Try another sort, a wider time range, or several narrower searches.

**How do comments affect the cost?**
Each comment is one result. 50 posts with 30 comments each is about 1,550 results.

**Can I schedule it as a Reddit monitor?**
Yes. Turn on **Only new posts**, use **New** sort, and create a daily schedule in Apify Console. For keyword alerts with a matched snippet, see [Reddit Keyword Monitor](https://apify.com/himanshu-data/reddit-keyword-monitor).

**Which export formats are there?**
JSON, CSV, Excel, XML, HTML and JSONL from the dataset, or the API.

**Is it legal to scrape Reddit?**
The Actor collects only public posts and comments. Follow Reddit's terms and the laws where you live, and take care with personal data such as usernames (for example under GDPR). This is not legal advice.

### Tips

- For the latest posts on a topic, use search with **New** sort and **Only new posts**.
- Residential proxies are on by default because Reddit blocks data-center IPs.
