## Pricing

from $0.0015 / file converted

This Actor is paid per event. You are not charged for the Apify platform usage, but only a fixed price for specific events.
Since this Actor supports Apify Store discounts, the price gets lower the higher subscription plan you have.

## What's an Apify Actor?

Actors are web data automations that power AI and operations. They run on the Apify platform to scrape websites, process data, connect APIs, and automate workflows.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.
Actors are written with capital "A".

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.
The best way to integrate Actors is as follows.

- **AI agents and MCP clients** — the [Apify MCP server](https://docs.apify.com/integrations/mcp.md) at `https://mcp.apify.com` (remote, streamable HTTP, OAuth on first use).
- **Agentic workflows and local Actor development** — [Agent Skills](https://apify.com/.well-known/agent-skills/index.json) with the [Apify CLI](https://docs.apify.com/cli/docs.md): `npm install -g apify-cli`, then `apify login`.
- **JavaScript/TypeScript projects** — the official [JS/TS client](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md): `npm install apify-client`.
- **Python projects** — the official [Python client](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md): `pip install apify-client`.
- **Any other language** — the [REST API](https://docs.apify.com/api/v2.md).

For usage examples, see the [API](#api) section below.

# README

## Data Format Converter — JSON, YAML, XML, TOML, NDJSON & CSV

**Convert structured data between JSON, YAML, XML, TOML, NDJSON and CSV — paste it in or point at a file URL, and get a clean converted document back.**

### What it does

- Converts between **JSON, YAML, XML, TOML, NDJSON and CSV** in any direction.
- **Auto-detects** the source format so you don't have to specify it.
- Accepts **raw text** or a **file URL** to fetch and convert.
- Runs a **batch** of many conversions in a single run.
- Returns the converted document as a downloadable file plus a tidy dataset row for each conversion.

### Use cases

- **No-code pipelines (n8n / Make / Zapier)** — run this from the Apify node, then pass the converted output straight to the next step (a webhook, a database, a file store).
- **APIs & integrations** — turn a YAML config or an XML feed into JSON your app can consume.
- **Data prep** — flatten JSON or NDJSON into CSV for spreadsheets and BI tools.
- **Migrations** — move config or fixtures between formats when switching tools.

### Input

```json
{
  "data": "{\"name\":\"Ada\",\"roles\":[\"admin\",\"dev\"]}",
  "from": "auto",
  "to": "yaml"
}
```

Batch mode:

```json
{
  "items": [
    { "data": "a,b\n1,2", "from": "csv", "to": "json" },
    { "data": "name: Ada", "from": "yaml", "to": "xml" }
  ]
}
```

| Field | Type | Description |
|---|---|---|
| `data` | string | Raw source document to convert. Provide this or `fileUrl`. |
| `fileUrl` | string | Public URL of a file to fetch and convert (used when `data` is empty). |
| `from` | string | Source format: `auto`, `json`, `yaml`, `xml`, `toml`, `ndjson`, `csv`. |
| `to` | string | Target format: `json`, `yaml`, `xml`, `toml`, `ndjson`, `csv`. |
| `items` | array | Optional batch of `{ data, from, to }` objects for many conversions in one run. |

### Output

Each converted document is saved to the run's key-value store and a row is pushed to the dataset.

```json
{
  "from": "json",
  "to": "yaml",
  "bytes": 34,
  "resultUrl": "https://api.apify.com/v2/key-value-stores/.../records/converted-0001.yaml",
  "ok": true
}
```

#### Output schema

| Field | Type | Description |
|---|---|---|
| `from` | string | Detected or specified source format. |
| `to` | string | Target format the document was converted to. |
| `bytes` | integer | Size of the converted document in bytes. |
| `resultUrl` | string | Direct link to download the converted file. |
| `ok` | boolean | Whether the conversion succeeded. |

### FAQ

**Which formats are supported?** JSON, YAML, XML, TOML, NDJSON and CSV — in any direction.

**Do I have to set the input format?** No. Leave `from` on `auto` and it is detected for you.

**Can I convert many documents at once?** Yes — pass an `items` array and each is converted and saved separately.

**Can I use it in n8n?** Yes. Trigger it from the Apify node and pass the output to the next step. See [Apify integrations](https://apify.com/integrations) and the [Apify API](https://docs.apify.com/api/v2).

### Notes

# Actor input Schema

## `data` (type: `string`):

Raw source document to convert, pasted as text. Provide this OR a File URL. Ignored when Items is used.

## `fileUrl` (type: `string`):

Public URL of a file to fetch and convert. Used when Data is empty. Ignored when Items is used.

## `from` (type: `string`):

Source format of the input. Choose Auto-detect to identify it automatically.

## `to` (type: `string`):

Target format to convert the input into.

## `items` (type: `array`):

Optional batch: an array of objects like {"data":"...","from":"json","to":"yaml"} to run many conversions in one run. Overrides the single Data / File URL fields.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "from": "auto",
  "to": "yaml"
}
```

# Actor output Schema

## `results` (type: `string`):

The results as dataset items.

# API

You can run this Actor programmatically using our API. Below are code examples in JavaScript, Python, and CLI, as well as the OpenAPI specification and MCP server setup.

## JavaScript example

```javascript
import { ApifyClient } from 'apify-client';
// Initialize the ApifyClient with your Apify API token
// Replace the '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>' with your token
const client = new ApifyClient({
    token: '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>',
});
// Prepare Actor input
const input = {};
// Run the Actor and wait for it to finish
const run = await client.actor("hipersoft/data-format-converter").call(input);
// Fetch and print Actor results from the run's dataset (if any)
console.log('Results from dataset');
console.log(`💾 Check your data here: https://console.apify.com/storage/datasets/${run.defaultDatasetId}`);
const { items } = await client.dataset(run.defaultDatasetId).listItems();
items.forEach((item) => {
    console.dir(item);
});
```

## MCP server setup

```json
{
    "mcpServers": {
The hosted server signs you in with OAuth on first connect, so no API token belongs in this config. Clients without OAuth support can send an `Authorization: Bearer <APIFY_API_TOKEN>` header instead, using a token from API & Integrations in Apify Console (https://console.apify.com/settings/integrations).
