## Pricing

from $0.001 / article scraped

This Actor is paid per event. You are not charged for the Apify platform usage, but only a fixed price for specific events.
Since this Actor supports Apify Store discounts, the price gets lower the higher subscription plan you have.

## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## DEV.to Scraper — Articles, Tags & Authors

Scrape articles from **DEV Community (dev.to)** as clean, structured data. Filter by **tag**, **author**, or **top posts** over a time window — and get one row per article with title, description, URL, author, tags, reactions, comments, reading time, cover image and (optionally) the full Markdown body. Export to **JSON, CSV or Excel**, or pull straight from the API.

Perfect for **developer content research, tech trend tracking, competitor and topic analysis, newsletters, content curation, and building article datasets** for dashboards or LLMs.

***

### What you get

One flat, ready-to-use record per article:

| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| `id` / `slug` / `url` | Article identity and link |
| `title` / `description` | Headline and summary |
| `coverImage` | Cover image URL |
| `tags` | Article tags |
| `author` / `authorName` | Username and display name |
| `organization` | Publishing organization (if any) |
| `reactions` | Reaction count |
| `comments` | Comment count |
| `readingMinutes` | Estimated reading time |
| `publishedAt` / `editedAt` | Timestamps (ISO 8601) |
| `canonicalUrl` | Canonical URL |
| `bodyMarkdown` | Full article body *(when "Include full article body" is on)* |
| `collectedAt` | When the row was scraped |

***

### How to use

#### 1. By tag, author, or latest

```json
{
  "tags": ["javascript", "python"],
  "usernames": ["ben"],
  "topDays": "7",
  "includeBody": false,
  "maxItems": 300
}
```

- **Tags** — scrape articles for each tag (e.g. `webdev`, `ai`, `react`).
- **Authors** — scrape all articles from given usernames.
- **Top posts over N days** — return the most-reacted posts over a window (e.g. `7`, `30`) instead of newest.
- **Include full article body** — also fetch each article's full Markdown.
- **Max articles** — cap the total (0 = no limit).

Leave tags and authors empty to scrape the latest articles feed.

***

### Example output

```json
{
  "id": 1899123,
  "title": "FastAPI's new app.frontend() fixes everything",
  "url": "https://dev.to/alexgeorgiev17/fastapis-new-appfrontend-…",
  "tags": ["python", "fastapi", "webdev"],
  "author": "alexgeorgiev17",
  "reactions": 7,
  "comments": 2,
  "readingMinutes": 5,
  "publishedAt": "2026-09-20T08:00:00Z",
  "collectedAt": "2026-09-20T15:10:00.000Z"
}
```

### Common use cases

- **Developer content research** — see what's trending for a language, framework or topic.
- **Trend tracking** — monitor tags and top posts over time.
- **Competitor & author analysis** — pull an author's or organization's full catalog.
- **Newsletters & curation** — build clean digests of the best posts.
- **Datasets** — build structured article corpora for analysis or model training.

### Frequently asked questions

**Do I need any login, account or key?** No. Just set tags or authors and run.

**Can I get the full article text?** Yes — enable **Include full article body** to add the Markdown body to each row.

**Can I get the top posts of the week?** Yes — set **Top posts over N days** (e.g. 7).

**How many articles can I get?** Set **Max articles** to whatever you need (0 = no limit) — the scraper pages through the results.

**What format is the data?** A flat table you can export as JSON, CSV or Excel, or fetch from the Apify API.

# Actor input Schema

## `tags` (type: `array`):

DEV.to tags to scrape articles from — e.g. 'javascript', 'python', 'webdev', 'ai'. Each tag is scraped and the results are combined. Leave empty (with no authors) to scrape the latest articles feed.

## `usernames` (type: `array`):

DEV.to usernames to scrape all articles from — e.g. 'ben', 'devteam'.

## `topDays` (type: `string`):

Optional. Return the top (most-reacted) posts over this many days instead of newest — e.g. '7' for the past week, '30' for the past month.

## `includeBody` (type: `boolean`):

Also fetch each article's full Markdown body (one extra request per article).
