# UUID, ULID & NanoID Generator (`hipersoft/uuid-ulid-generator`) Actor

Generate batches of UUID v4/v7, ULID or NanoID with a chosen count and format. Export as a dataset and a ready-to-use text/CSV file for seeding databases and test data.

## Pricing

from $0.00015 / ids generated

This Actor is paid per event. You are not charged for the Apify platform usage, but only a fixed price for specific events.
Since this Actor supports Apify Store discounts, the price gets lower the higher subscription plan you have.

## What's an Apify Actor?

Actors are web data automations that power AI and operations. They run on the Apify platform to scrape websites, process data, connect APIs, and automate workflows.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.
Actors are written with capital "A".

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.
The best way to integrate Actors is as follows.

- **AI agents and MCP clients** — the [Apify MCP server](https://docs.apify.com/integrations/mcp.md) at `https://mcp.apify.com` (remote, streamable HTTP, OAuth on first use).
- **Agentic workflows and local Actor development** — [Agent Skills](https://apify.com/.well-known/agent-skills/index.json) with the [Apify CLI](https://docs.apify.com/cli/docs.md): `npm install -g apify-cli`, then `apify login`.
- **JavaScript/TypeScript projects** — the official [JS/TS client](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md): `npm install apify-client`.
- **Python projects** — the official [Python client](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md): `pip install apify-client`.
- **Any other language** — the [REST API](https://docs.apify.com/api/v2.md).

For usage examples, see the [API](#api) section below.

## UUID, ULID & NanoID Generator

**Generate batches of unique identifiers on demand** — UUID v4, time-ordered UUID v7, sortable ULID or short NanoID — with your chosen count and format. Every run returns the IDs as a dataset and a ready-to-use text file for seeding databases, test data and primary keys.

![UUID, ULID & NanoID Generator input — configure the options in the Apify Console](https://api.apify.com/v2/key-value-stores/SUfvnaFLd9z9eBCtV/records/uuid-ulid-generator-input.png)

### What it does

- Generates **UUID v4** (random), **UUID v7** (time-ordered), **ULID** (lexicographically sortable) or **NanoID** (short, URL-safe).
- Any **count** from 1 to 100,000 in a single run.
- Optional **uppercase**, custom **NanoID length** and **alphabet**.
- Exports a dataset plus an `ids.txt` file.

### Use cases

- **Database seeding** — pre-generate primary keys or test fixtures in bulk.
- **QA & load testing** — create large batches of unique IDs.
- **Migrations / backfills** — assign IDs to existing rows.

### Input

```json
{ "type": "uuid-v4", "count": 100, "uppercase": false, "nanoidLength": 21 }
```

| Field | Type | Description |
|---|---|---|
| `type` | string | `uuid-v4`, `uuid-v7`, `ulid` or `nanoid`. |
| `count` | integer | How many IDs (1–100000). |
| `uppercase` | boolean | Return IDs uppercase. |
| `nanoidLength` | integer | Length of each NanoID. |
| `nanoidAlphabet` | string | Optional custom NanoID character set. |

### Output

![UUID, ULID & NanoID Generator output — the results as a clean dataset](https://api.apify.com/v2/key-value-stores/SUfvnaFLd9z9eBCtV/records/uuid-ulid-generator-output.png)

One row per ID, plus `ids.txt` in your key-value store.

```json
{ "id": "6f9619ff-8b86-d011-b42d-00cf4fc964ff" }
```

#### Output schema

| Field | Type | Description |
|---|---|---|
| `id` | string | A generated identifier. |

### FAQ

**Which type should I use?** UUID v4 for random keys, UUID v7/ULID when you want IDs that sort by creation time, NanoID for short URL-safe IDs.

**How many can I generate?** Up to 100,000 per run.

**Can I automate it?** Yes — via [integrations on the Apify platform](https://apify.com/integrations) and the [Apify API](https://docs.apify.com/api/v2).

### Notes

# Actor input Schema

## `type` (type: `string`):

Which kind of identifier to generate.

## `count` (type: `integer`):

Number of IDs to generate (1–100000).

## `uppercase` (type: `boolean`):

Return IDs in uppercase.

## `nanoidLength` (type: `integer`):

Length of each NanoID (only used for the NanoID type).

You can run this Actor programmatically using our API. Below are code examples in JavaScript, Python, and CLI, as well as the OpenAPI specification and MCP server setup.

## JavaScript example

```javascript
import { ApifyClient } from 'apify-client';
// Initialize the ApifyClient with your Apify API token
// Replace the '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>' with your token
const client = new ApifyClient({
// Prepare Actor input
const input = {};
// Run the Actor and wait for it to finish
const run = await client.actor("hipersoft/uuid-ulid-generator").call(input);
// Fetch and print Actor results from the run's dataset (if any)
console.log('Results from dataset');
console.log(`💾 Check your data here: https://console.apify.com/storage/datasets/${run.defaultDatasetId}`);
const { items } = await client.dataset(run.defaultDatasetId).listItems();
items.forEach((item) => {
