## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## ATS Job Scraper: Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby, Workable & More

**Who is hiring, for what, and what changed since yesterday?** Give this Actor a company domain and it returns the company's open jobs and a compact hiring summary, straight from the company's own job board.

It supports six applicant tracking systems (ATS) and detects the right one automatically:

**Greenhouse · Lever · Ashby · Workable · Recruitee · SmartRecruiters**

No browsers and no proxies. Data comes from the public ATS JSON APIs, so a typical company takes a few seconds.

### What you can ask it

- "How many open jobs does stripe.com have, and in which departments?"
- "Which of these 50 companies opened new engineering roles since the last run?"
- "Does ramp.com hire for Kubernetes or LLM skills?"
- "List remote data-engineering jobs at these companies."
- "Which jobs did linear.app close this week?"
- "What salary ranges does ramp.com publish for engineering roles?"

### What it is good for

- **Sales intelligence**: new roles in a department are a buying signal.
- **Recruiting and talent teams**: watch competitors' hiring.
- **Market and investment research**: track hiring growth and tech-stack adoption.
- **AI agents**: small, filterable, well-described output that fits in a context window.

### Input

Only `companies` is required.

| Field | Type | Default | Description |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| `companies` | array of strings | *required* | Domains (`stripe.com`) or board slugs (`stripe`). Prefix to force an ATS: `greenhouse:stripe`, `lever:spotify`, `ashby:linear`, `workable:huggingface`, `recruitee:bunq`, `smartrecruiters:BoschGroup`. |
| `output_mode` | string | `jobs_and_summary` | `jobs_and_summary`, `summary_only` (smallest output) or `jobs_only`. |
| `track_diff` | boolean | `true` | Compare with the previous run and set `status` to NEW / EXISTING / CLOSED. |
| `state_id` | string | `default_state` | Name of the saved history. Runs sharing a `state_id` are compared with each other. |
| `extract_tech_keywords` | boolean | `true` | Detect technologies in job titles and descriptions. |
| `only_changes` | boolean | `false` | Return only NEW and CLOSED jobs. |
| `title_keywords` | array of strings | | Keep jobs whose title contains any of these. |
| `departments` | array of strings | | Keep jobs whose department contains any of these. |
| `locations` | array of strings | | Keep jobs whose location contains any of these. |
| `technologies` | array of strings | | Keep jobs that mention any of these technologies. |
| `remote_only` | boolean | `false` | Keep remote jobs only. |
| `max_jobs_per_company` | integer | `0` | Cap on job records per company. `0` = no limit. NEW jobs are kept first. |

Filters only reduce which job records are returned. Change tracking and the company summary always cover **all** of the company's jobs.

#### Example: quick hiring signal for an agent

```json
{
    "companies": ["stripe.com", "ramp.com", "linear.app"],
    "output_mode": "summary_only"
}
```

#### Example: daily monitor of new engineering jobs

```json
{
    "companies": ["stripe.com", "ramp.com", "linear.app"],
    "only_changes": true,
    "title_keywords": ["engineer"],
    "state_id": "eng-watchlist"
}
```

### Output

The dataset holds two kinds of records, told apart by `record_type`.

#### `company_summary` — one per company

```json
{
    "record_type": "company_summary",
    "company_domain": "linear.app",
    "ats_type": "ashby",
    "board_slug": "linear",
    "total_active_jobs": 31,
    "remote_jobs": 31,
    "jobs_with_salary": 12,
    "is_first_run": false,
    "new_jobs": 2,
    "closed_jobs": 1,
    "new_job_titles": ["Senior Product Engineer", "Enterprise Account Executive"],
    "closed_job_titles": ["Support Specialist"],
    "jobs_by_department": { "GTM": 15, "Product": 13, "Operations": 3 },
    "top_locations": { "North America": 19, "Europe": 8, "London": 2 },
    "top_technologies": { "React": 8, "TypeScript": 8, "GraphQL": 7 },
    "matching_jobs": 10,
    "scraped_at": "2026-10-13T13:17:26+00:00"
}
```

`is_first_run: true` means there was no saved history yet, so `new_jobs` equals all jobs and is a baseline, not a hiring spike.

#### `job` — one per job posting

```json
{
    "record_type": "job",
    "company_domain": "stripe.com",
    "ats_type": "greenhouse",
    "job_id": "8172487",
    "title": "Abuse Investigator",
    "department": "Security Analytics",
    "location": "Dublin",
    "is_remote": false,
    "posted_date": "2026-09-03T13:30:34-04:00",
    "salary": "USD 98,000–147,000",
    "apply_url": "https://stripe.com/jobs/search?gh_jid=8172487",
    "detected_technologies": ["Databricks", "Pandas", "Python", "Spark", "SQL"],
    "status": "NEW",
    "scraped_at": "2026-10-13T12:08:14+00:00"
}
```

`salary` is the pay range exactly as the employer published it: taken from the job board's structured pay data where it exists (Greenhouse, Ashby, Lever, Recruitee), otherwise from an explicit range written in the job description. It is `null` when the posting states no range.

A human-readable report of the whole run is saved to the run's key-value store under **`OUTPUT_SUMMARY.md`**: companies processed, successes and failures, total active jobs, new and closed jobs, and a breakdown by ATS.

### How change tracking works

- The first run for a company under a given `state_id` marks every job **NEW**.
- Later runs mark jobs **EXISTING** (seen before), **NEW** (first seen now) or **CLOSED** (seen before, gone now).
- A CLOSED job is reported once, then forgotten.
- If a company cannot be reached in a run, its history is left untouched, so nothing is falsely reported as closed.
- History lives in a named key-value store, `ats-job-pulse-state`, in your own Apify account.

To monitor continuously, put the Actor on an Apify **Schedule** (for example daily) and keep the same `state_id`.

### How the job board is found

1. The slug (`stripe` from `stripe.com`) is checked against all six systems in parallel.
2. If nothing is found, the Actor fetches `https://{domain}/careers` (then `/jobs`) and follows any link or embed pointing to a supported system.

When several boards match, the one with the most open jobs is used.

### Pricing

Pay per event, with two events:

| Event | Price | When |
| --- | --- | --- |
| `company-processed` | $0.05 | Once per **successfully processed company**, whether it has 5 jobs or 5,000. |
| `apify-actor-start` | $0.00005 | Once per run. |

Companies with no supported job board, invalid inputs and temporary failures are **not charged** the company event. There is no charge per job or per result, and platform usage is included. Set a maximum cost per run and the Actor stops cleanly when it is reached.

### Use from AI agents (MCP)

The Actor works with the [Apify MCP server](https://mcp.apify.com), so Claude, Cursor and other MCP clients can find it and call it as a tool:

```
https://mcp.apify.com?tools=hirepulse/ats-job-pulse
```

Tips for agents:

- Start with `"output_mode": "summary_only"`: one small record per company.
- When you need job records, narrow them with `title_keywords`, `departments`, `technologies`, `remote_only` and `max_jobs_per_company`.
- For "what changed" questions, reuse the same `state_id` and set `only_changes` to `true`.

### Works with your stack

No extra setup on our side: this Actor is available everywhere Apify is.

| Where | How |
| --- | --- |
| **Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, VS Code, GitHub Copilot** | Add the MCP URL above. The agent can then call the Actor as a tool. |
| **n8n, Make, Zapier, Gumloop** | Use the Apify app, choose "Run Actor", pick `hirepulse/ats-job-pulse` and paste the JSON input. Send the records on to Slack, Google Sheets, Airtable, HubSpot or email. |
| **LangChain, OpenAI Agents SDK, Vercel AI SDK, Google ADK** | Use Apify's official integration to expose this Actor as a tool in your own agent. |
| **Any code or script** | One HTTP call, shown below. |

```bash
curl -X POST "https://api.apify.com/v2/acts/hirepulse~ats-job-pulse/run-sync-get-dataset-items?token=YOUR_APIFY_TOKEN" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"companies": ["stripe.com", "linear.app"], "output_mode": "summary_only"}'
```

Ideas for automations:

- Every morning: run with `only_changes: true` on your target accounts and post newly opened roles to a Slack channel.
- Weekly: write each company's `total_active_jobs` and `new_jobs` to a Google Sheet to see who is growing.
- In a sales agent: before outreach, check which departments the prospect is hiring for.

### Limitations

- Companies on other systems (Workday, iCIMS, Taleo, in-house career sites) are reported as not found and are not charged.
- SmartRecruiters publishes no job description in its listing, so technologies there are detected from the job title and job function only. At most 3,000 postings per company are read.
- SmartRecruiters slugs are case-sensitive and often not guessable (for example `BoschGroup`). Pass a domain whose careers page links to the board, or use the `smartrecruiters:` prefix.
- A bare slug can occasionally match a different company with the same name on another ATS. Use a prefix (`lever:acme`) when you need to be exact.
- Careers pages rendered entirely in JavaScript may not expose an ATS link to the fallback step; pass the slug directly in that case.
- Salary is returned as published text, not normalized: currencies, periods and formats differ between employers. Many postings state no range.
- Technology detection is keyword-based. A technology named in a company's standard "about us" text is counted for every job of that company.

# Actor input Schema

## `companies` (type: `array`):

Company website domains (e.g. "stripe.com") or job-board slugs (e.g. "stripe"). To force a specific ATS, prefix the slug: "greenhouse:stripe", "lever:spotify", "ashby:linear", "workable:huggingface", "recruitee:bunq", "smartrecruiters:BoschGroup". Each successfully processed company is charged once, regardless of how many jobs it has.

## `output_mode` (type: `string`):

"jobs_and_summary": one company_summary record per company followed by its job records. "summary_only": only the company_summary records (job counts, new/closed counts, departments, locations, technologies) — the smallest output, best for a quick hiring-signal check. "jobs_only": only job records.

## `track_diff` (type: `boolean`):

Compare with the previous run that used the same "state_id" and set each job's "status" to NEW, EXISTING or CLOSED. On the first run every job is NEW (the summary marks this with is_first_run = true). When off, every job has status ACTIVE and nothing is remembered.

## `state_id` (type: `string`):

Name of the saved history used for change tracking. Runs that share a state_id are compared with each other. Use a different value per watchlist or per schedule.

## `extract_tech_keywords` (type: `boolean`):

Scan each job title and description for core technologies (Python, AWS, React, Kubernetes, LLMs, ...) and return them in "detected_technologies" and in the summary's "top_technologies".

## `only_changes` (type: `boolean`):

Return only jobs whose status is NEW or CLOSED. Use it on scheduled runs to get just what changed since the last run.

## `title_keywords` (type: `array`):

Return only jobs whose title contains at least one of these words or phrases (case-insensitive). Example: \["engineer", "data scientist"].

## `departments` (type: `array`):

Return only jobs whose department contains at least one of these words (case-insensitive). Example: \["engineering", "sales"].

## `locations` (type: `array`):

Return only jobs whose location contains at least one of these words (case-insensitive). Example: \["london", "new york", "germany"].

## `technologies` (type: `array`):

Return only jobs that mention at least one of these technologies, using the names from "detected_technologies" (case-insensitive). Example: \["Python", "Kubernetes", "LLMs"].

## `remote_only` (type: `boolean`):

Return only jobs marked or described as remote.

## `max_jobs_per_company` (type: `integer`):

Maximum number of job records returned per company, after the other filters. 0 means no limit. When the limit cuts the list, NEW jobs are kept first, then CLOSED, then the rest. The summary's "matching_jobs" tells how many matched in total.

}
```
# Actor output Schema
## `results` (type: `string`):
Dataset items. Each has record_type "company_summary" (one per company) or "job" (one per job posting).
## `runSummary` (type: `string`):
Human-readable report: companies processed, successes and failures, active, new and closed jobs, breakdown by ATS.
