## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## 🇯🇵 JPHawk — Japan Company Registry Scraper

Scrapes Japan's **National Tax Agency Corporate Number Registry**
(法人番号公表サイト) — the official record of every company, government body,
and registered organization in Japan (5M+ entries).

### Why this actor

Japan is the world's 4th-largest economy, but there is no free, no-key,
no-login bulk source for its company data anywhere else on Apify. This actor
uses the NTA's official public bulk-download files — the same data the
government itself publishes — so it is:

- **100% free source, no API key, no 2-4 week application wait.**
- **Never blocked** — it's an open government dataset, not a scraped website.
- **Zero-null output** — every field is guaranteed a value (empty string or a
derived label instead of `null`), and status/company-type codes are
  decoded into plain English.
- **Nothing missed** — the actor reads every one of the official 30 data
columns per record, straight from the government's own file specification.

### What you get, per company

| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| `corporate_number` | Japan's unique 13-digit Corporate Number |
| `company_name` / `company_name_en` / `company_name_furigana` | Name in Japanese, English (if registered), and phonetic reading |
| `company_type` | Kabushiki Kaisha, Godo Kaisha, government body, foreign company, etc. |
| `status` / `status_detail` / `is_active` | active / closed / merged / deleted, with the exact reason |
| `prefecture`, `city`, `street_address`, `postal_code`, `full_address` | Full domestic address, split and combined |
| `address_en` | English-registered address, when available |
| `registered_date`, `last_updated`, `change_date`, `close_date` | Full history dates |
| `is_new_company` | true if registered within your chosen recency window — instant fresh-lead filter |
| `successor_corporate_number` | For merged companies, the surviving entity |

### Input

- **Prefectures** — pick any of Japan's 47 prefectures, `全国` (nationwide,
  5M+ records), or `国外` (overseas-registered entities).
- **Include closed/merged/deleted** — on by default so nothing is filtered
out; turn off for active-only leads.
- **Only NEW companies** — filter to companies registered in the last N days
(default 90) for fresh B2B lead generation.
- **Max records** — safety cap; `0` = unlimited, get every record.

### Who buys this

- KYB / compliance and AML teams verifying Japanese counterparties
- Sales-intelligence and lead-gen platforms expanding into Japan
- Accountants, banks, and recruiters sourcing Japanese company data

# Actor input Schema

## `prefectures` (type: `array`):

Pick one or more Japanese prefectures, or '全国' for the entire country (~5M+ records — large, slow run). Tokyo (東京都) alone has 1M+ companies.

## `includeClosedCompanies` (type: `boolean`):

ON (default) = the complete official file, nothing filtered out. OFF = only currently active companies.

## `onlyNewCompanies` (type: `boolean`):

Only return companies registered within the last 'New company window' days below. Great for fresh B2B lead generation.

## `newCompanyDays` (type: `integer`):

Used only when 'Only NEW companies' is ON. A company is 'new' if its registration date is within this many days.

## `maxItems` (type: `integer`):

Safety cap on total records returned across all selected prefectures. Set to 0 to get every single record with nothing missed (Tokyo alone is 1M+ rows and will run for a long time — fine for a real job, just don't leave it at 0 for a quick test).
