## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Google Trends Scraper: Fast, No Browser

Get **Google Trends data for any keyword in seconds**: interest over time, interest by region, and top & rising related searches, for any country, time range, category or search type. Plus a **Trending now** mode with today's trending searches and the news stories behind them.

This Actor talks to Google Trends directly instead of driving a browser, so it is **fast (usually 5-20 seconds per keyword) and cheap**. Residential proxies are included in the price, so blocks are handled for you.

### What can you use it for?

- **SEO & content planning**: find rising searches before your competitors write about them.
- **Product & market research**: compare demand for brands, products or features across countries and states.
- **E-commerce & seasonality**: see when demand for a product peaks during the year.
- **Investing & trend research**: track search interest as a leading signal.
- **News & social media**: pull today's trending searches with linked news articles, every hour.
- **Dashboards & AI agents**: clean JSON, ready for Google Sheets, BI tools, n8n, Make, Zapier or LLM pipelines.

### Features

| | |
|---|---|
| Interest over time | Full timeline (0-100) with dates, plus the average |
| Interest by region | Countries, or states/regions when a country is selected |
| Related queries | Top and rising (with "Breakout" and +% growth) |
| Related topics | Top and rising (best effort, see FAQ) |
| Compare mode | Up to 5 terms on one shared scale, like the Trends compare view |
| Filters | Country/region, time range (past hour to 2004), custom dates, category, Web/Images/News/Shopping/YouTube |
| Trending now | Daily trending searches per country, with traffic estimate, image and news links |

### How to use

1. Enter your **search terms**, one per line.
2. Pick a **location** (e.g. `US`, `GB`, `DE`, `US-CA`, or leave empty for worldwide) and a **time range**.
3. Optionally turn on **Compare terms** to put them on one scale.
4. Click **Start** and download results as JSON, CSV or Excel, or use the API.

For trending searches, switch **Mode** to **Trending now** and list the countries.

### Input example

```json
{
    "searchTerms": ["chatgpt", "claude ai", "gemini"],
    "geo": "US",
    "timeRange": "today 12-m",
    "compareTerms": false
}
```

### Output example (one row per search term)

```json
    "type": "keyword",
    "keyword": "chatgpt",
    "geo": "US",
    "timeRange": "today 12-m",
    "averageInterest": 77,
    "interestOverTime": [
        { "date": "2025-10-19T00:00:00.000Z", "formattedTime": "Oct 19 – 25, 2025", "value": 100, "isPartial": false }
    ],
    "interestByRegion": [
        { "geoCode": "US-CA", "geoName": "California", "value": 100 }
    ],
    },
    "relatedTopics": { "top": [], "rising": [] },
    "comparedWith": [],
    "trendsUrl": "https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?q=chatgpt&geo=US&date=today+12-m"
}
```

**Trending now** rows look like:

```json
{
    "type": "trendingNow",
    "geo": "US",
    "title": "amon ra st brown",
    "approxTraffic": "1000+",
    "publishedAt": "2026-10-25T20:50:00.000Z",
    "news": [{ "title": "Amon-Ra St. Brown vs. Packers Week 7…", "url": "https://sports.yahoo.com/…", "source": "Yahoo Sports" }]
}
```

### Pricing

You pay **per result row**: one row per search term, or one row per trending search. Proxies and compute are included. Set a maximum cost per run and the Actor stops cleanly when it is reached.

### FAQ

**Why are values 0-100 and not search volumes?**
That's how Google Trends works: 100 is the peak popularity in the chosen time and place. Use **Compare terms** to see terms relative to each other.

**Related topics are empty.**
Google sometimes withholds related topics from automated requests while still returning everything else. Related queries are much more reliable and are usually what you want.

**A run was slow.**
Google rate-limits Trends heavily. When that happens the Actor switches to a new residential IP and retries automatically, which can add a few seconds.

**Can I schedule it?**
Yes. Use Apify Schedules, e.g. run Trending now every hour, or your keyword list every week.

# Actor input Schema

## `mode` (type: `string`):

"Keywords" gets interest over time, by region and related searches for your terms. "Trending now" gets today's trending searches (with news links) for one or more countries.

## `searchTerms` (type: `array`):

Keywords or phrases to look up, one per line.

## `compareTerms` (type: `boolean`):

## `geo` (type: `string`):

Country or region code, e.g. "US", "GB", "DE", "US-CA". Leave empty for worldwide.

## `timeRange` (type: `string`):

Period to analyze. Short ranges (hours/days) return hourly or minute-level data.

## `customTimeRange` (type: `string`):

Overrides the time range. Format: "YYYY-MM-DD YYYY-MM-DD", e.g. "2024-01-01 2024-12-31".

## `category` (type: `integer`):

Google Trends category ID, e.g. 5 = Computers & Electronics, 7 = Finance, 71 = Food & Drink. 0 = all categories.
