## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## US Federal Lobbying Disclosure Tracker (LDA.gov)

Get structured data on **US federal lobbying filings** (LD-1 registrations, LD-2 quarterly reports, amendments and terminations), pulled live from the official, keyless **Senate Lobbying Disclosure Act (LDA) API** at `lda.gov/api/v1`.

You get one clean, flattened row per filing, ready for a CRM, spreadsheet or alerting workflow.

**Use cases**

- **Government-affairs sales triggers:** spot companies that just hired a lobbying firm (new `RR` registrations) or increased spend. That's a good signal for gov-affairs consultants, PR firms, law firms and policy-data vendors.
- **Compliance and due diligence:** monitor which clients a firm represents, which issues they lobby on and which agencies they contact.
- **Journalism and research:** track lobbying on an issue (e.g. `TAX`, `HCR`, `DEF`, `CPI`) or by a company, quarter by quarter.
- **Competitive intel:** see who your competitors pay to lobby and on what.

### Input

- **Filing year** (default 2026).
- **Client name contains**, such as "Microsoft".
- **Registrant (lobbying firm) name contains**, such as "Akin".
- **Filing type codes**, such as `RR` (new registration), `Q1`–`Q4` (quarterly), `Q3A` (amendment) or `1T`–`4T` (termination).
- **General issue codes**, such as `TAX`, `HCR`, `DEF`, `CPI`, `ENG` or `BUD`.
- **Minimum income/expenses (USD).**
- **Posted after / before** dates (YYYY-MM-DD).
- **Max results** (1–5,000, newest first).
- **User-Agent contact.**

### Output (one item per filing)

| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| `filingUuid`, `filingType`, `filingTypeDisplay`, `filingYear`, `filingPeriod`, `dtPosted` | Filing identity and timing |
| `incomeUsd` / `expensesUsd` | Income reported by an outside firm or expenses reported by an in-house registrant |
| `registrantName`, `registrantCity`, `registrantState` | The lobbying firm or in-house organization |
| `clientName`, `clientState`, `clientCountry` | Who the lobbying is for |
| `issueCodes`, `issueLabels` | LDA general issue areas |
| `lobbyistNames` | Unique lobbyists listed on the filing |
| `governmentEntities` | Agencies and chambers contacted |
| `activityCount` | Number of lobbying activities reported |
| `filingDocumentUrl`, `sourceUrl`, `apiUrl` | The printable filing on LDA.gov and the raw API record |

Example (from a real run): client `FIFA WORLD CUP KANSAS CITY 2026`, registrant `HOGAN LOVELLS CADWALADER US LLP`, issues `BUD`, `SPO`.

### Compliance

- Uses only the official public LDA REST API (`https://lda.gov/api/v1/`), with anonymous access, no login and no API key.
- The data is public disclosures filed under the Lobbying Disclosure Act of 1995.
- Requests are politely throttled to about 1 per second, back off on 429 and 5xx responses, and send a declared User-Agent.
- No anti-bot measures are bypassed and nothing is scraped from behind a login.

### Pricing (pay per event)

| Event | Price |
|---|---|
| `apify-actor-start` (synthetic) | default $0.00005 |
| `filing-result` (one filing pushed) | **$0.002** ($2 per 1,000 filings) |

The code calls `Actor.charge(event_name="filing-result")` after each pushed filing.

### Local run

```
pip install -r requirements.txt
## put input in storage/key_value_stores/default/INPUT.json
python -m src
```
