## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

## Local Business Leads: Emails, Phones by City & Category

Build local business lead lists by city, radius and category from the open Overture Maps Places dataset. Results include emails, phones, websites, social profiles, addresses, coordinates and confidence—without Google Maps scraping, proxies or access-control evasion.

### Use cases

- **Agency prospecting:** find plumbers, dentists, accountants or other businesses near a service area and filter to email or phone contacts.
- **CRM enrichment:** append public contact and address fields to an existing business list, then verify before outreach.
- **Local SEO:** identify businesses and competitors by category and neighbourhood for audits and citation work.

Overture has emails for only a minority of places. Use `requireContact: "any"` (email, phone or website) or `requireContact: "phone"` for broader coverage; `requireContact: "email"` intentionally returns fewer rows.

### Input

`locations` accepts city, town or address strings (up to 25). `centerLatitude` + `centerLongitude` can be used instead. `categories` accepts friendly terms such as `dentist`, `plumber`, `lawyer`, `hairdresser`, `restaurant`, `gym`, `accountant` and Overture taxonomy IDs. Leave it empty for all categories. `radiusKm` is 0.2–50 (default 10). `requireContact` is `any`, `email_or_phone`, `email`, `phone`, `website` or `none`. `minConfidence`, `excludeClosed`, `nameContains` and `maxResultsPerLocation` are optional filters.

Example:

```json
{"locations":["Göteborg, Sweden"],"categories":["plumber","electrician"],"requireContact":"email","radiusKm":20}
```

### Sample output

```json
{"status":"ok","name":"Dahl","category":"plumbing","email":"goteborg@dahl.se","phone":"+4631848480","website":"https://www.dahl.se/butiker/175","socials":{"facebook":"https://www.facebook.com/101377841595757"},"address":{"street":"Norra Ågatan 38","city":"Mölndal","postcode":"431 35","region":null,"country":"SE","formatted":"Norra Ågatan 38, 431 35 Mölndal, SE"},"latitude":57.668827,"longitude":12.012473,"distanceKm":5.06,"confidence":0.999,"contactScore":3,"overtureId":"99d1c37d-0c0b-42e8-b993-67c0fdd2d9d2"}
```

### Pricing

Successful business items cost **$0.004 each** (about **$4 per 1,000 leads**). For example, 500 dentists with an email cost about **$2.00**, plus the small Apify start event (about **$0.00005 per GB**). Empty searches and location errors are not charged. The free Apify plan caps successful items at **25 per run**.

### FAQ

**Why is `email` empty?** Overture only has an email when a contributing dataset supplied it; email coverage is a minority of places and addresses are not verified. Try `any` or `phone` for more rows.

**How is this different from Google Maps scrapers?** This actor reads Overture's licensed bulk Places release and geocodes search text with rate-limited OpenStreetMap Nominatim. It does not scrape Google Maps, bypass blocks or use proxies.

**How fresh is the data?** The actor selects the latest available Overture Places release. Coverage and freshness vary by source, country and business; check `overtureRelease`, `retrievedAt` and `confidence`.

**What is the free-plan cap?** Up to 25 successful business items per run. The actor stops charging when that cap is reached.

### Data, attribution and lawful use

Source: [Overture Maps Foundation Places](https://docs.overturemaps.org/guides/places/), with contributing datasets and licences described on its [attribution page](https://docs.overturemaps.org/attribution/). Overture attribution must be retained; do not resell raw Overture data as a standalone dataset. Location lookup uses [OpenStreetMap Nominatim](https://operations.osmfoundation.org/policies/nominatim/) (© OpenStreetMap contributors, ODbL). Contact details may be personal data: comply with GDPR/ePrivacy and local marketing rules, honour opt-outs, and verify addresses before outreach.

Emails are not deliverability-verified, and `confidence` measures place existence—not email quality. This is not legal advice.

  -d '{"locations":["Uppsala, Sweden"],"categories":["dentist"],"requireContact":"email","maxResultsPerLocation":20}'
```
# Actor input Schema
## `locations` (type: `array`):
City, town or address, one per line (e.g. "Uppsala, Sweden", "Hamburg, Germany"). Up to 25 per run. Each is searched within the radius below.
## `categories` (type: `array`):
Plain words such as dentist, hairdresser, plumber, lawyer, restaurant, gym, accountant, car repair (also some Swedish words: tandläkare, frisör, advokat, rörmokare). You can also use Overture category ids such as dental_clinic, pizza_restaurant or health_care (parent categories include their children). Leave empty for all categories.
## `radiusKm` (type: `number`):
Distance from the geocoded location centre. 0.2 to 50.
## `requireContact` (type: `string`):
Only return businesses that have at least this contact data. 'any' = email, phone or website. Unmatched businesses are not returned and not charged.
## `minConfidence` (type: `number`):
Overture's confidence that the place exists. 0.5 is a sensible default; raise to 0.8 for cleaner lists.
## `excludeClosed` (type: `boolean`):
Skip places flagged as permanently or temporarily closed.
## `nameContains` (type: `string`):
Only businesses whose name contains this text (case-insensitive), e.g. 'tandläkarna'.
## `maxResultsPerLocation` (type: `integer`):
Best-confidence businesses first. Free Apify plan: 25 per run in total.
## `centerLatitude` (type: `number`):
Use together with longitude to search around exact coordinates instead of (or in addition to) locations.
## `centerLongitude` (type: `number`):
See latitude.
