## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Product Recall Checker for Your SKU List (CPSC, FDA, NHTSA)

Paste your product catalog (SKU, name, brand, UPC) and any vehicles, and get back **only** the US federal recalls that match them, each with a 0 to 100 match score and the reason it matched. It checks SaferProducts.gov (CPSC), openFDA (food, drugs, devices) and NHTSA vehicle recalls in one run.

### Who uses this

- **Amazon, Shopify, eBay and Walmart sellers** auditing inventory before a marketplace takes a listing down
- **Resale, thrift and consignment shops** screening what comes in
- **Used-car dealers** checking every vehicle on the lot
- **Procurement and compliance teams** checking supplier catalogs

### Why this Actor

- **Matches, not a firehose.** Other recall scrapers return every recall. This returns only the ones that hit your catalog.
- **Explained scores:** exact UPC, brand match, product-name overlap, so you can see why each one matched.
- **Three agencies in one run.**
- **Pay per match.** If nothing in your catalog is recalled, the run costs almost nothing. Schedule it weekly.

### Input example

```json
{
  "since": "2026-07-01",
  "minScore": 60,
  "products": [
    {"sku": "BIKE-001", "name": "GRVL AF gravel bicycle", "brand": "Van Rysel"},
    {"sku": "TOY-9", "name": "magnetic building tiles", "brand": "Magna-Tiles"},
    {"sku": "BATH-4", "name": "infant bath seat", "brand": "Summer Infant"}
  ],
  "vehicles": [{"make": "honda", "model": "accord", "year": 2020}],
  "fdaKinds": ["food"]
}
```

### Sample result

A test run scanned 496 recalls issued since Jul 1, 2026 and returned 6 scored hits, including CPSC recall 27017 (Van Rysel bicycle) and 5 NHTSA campaigns for the 2020 Honda Accord.

### Tips

- Run it on a schedule (weekly) with `since` set a few days back, and send results to Slack or email with an Apify integration.
- Want to watch brands rather than a catalog? See **Recall Brand Watch**.

### Data & legal

Public US federal sources only. No login, no personal data. Match scores are a screening aid; confirm with the agency notice. Not legal advice.
