## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Google News Scraper — real article URLs & news alerts

Scrape **Google News** by keyword or topic in any country and language and get the headline, source, publish date and the **real publisher URL** (decoded from Google's redirect links). **Monitoring mode** returns only articles you haven't seen yet, so you can schedule it as a **news alert** for brands, competitors, tickers or topics. No API key, no login.

### Why this Google News scraper?

- **Real article URLs.** Google News RSS only gives opaque `news.google.com/rss/articles/...` links. This Actor resolves every one to the publisher's URL (e.g. `reuters.com/...`), ready for article extraction, summarization or LLM pipelines.
- **Monitoring mode (`onlyNew`).** Schedule it hourly or daily: each run returns only new stories and you pay only for those.
- **Search operators**: `"exact phrase"`, `OR`, `-exclude`, `site:reuters.com`, `intitle:`.
- **Time filters**: past hour, 12 hours, day, week, month, year.
- **Headline topics**: Top stories, World, Business, Technology, Science, Health, Sports, Entertainment.
- **Any edition**: `en-US`, `en-GB`, `es-419` + `MX`, `pt-BR` + `BR`, `de` + `DE`, `ja` + `JP`, `hi` + `IN` and more.
- **Story clusters**: related coverage from other outlets for the same story.

### Use cases

Media monitoring and PR, brand and competitor alerts, financial news for tickers, AI news feeds and newsletters, market research, dataset building for NLP.

### How much does it cost?

| Event | Price |
|---|---|
| Actor start | $0.005 per run |
| `news-article` | **$0.002** per article, or $2 per 1,000 |

URL decoding is included. Error items are free. In monitoring mode you pay only for new articles. The free plan's $5 monthly credit covers about **2,400 articles**.

### Input

| Field | Default | Description |
|---|---|---|
| `queries` | – | Search terms, with Google News operators |
| `topics` | – | `TOP`, `WORLD`, `NATION`, `BUSINESS`, `TECHNOLOGY`, `ENTERTAINMENT`, `SPORTS`, `SCIENCE`, `HEALTH` |
| `language` | `en-US` | Edition language |
| `country` | `US` | Edition country |
| `timeRange` | any | `1h`, `12h`, `1d`, `7d`, `1m`, `1y` |
| `maxItemsPerQuery` | `100` | Up to 100 per query or topic |
| `decodeUrls` | `true` | Resolve real publisher URLs |
| `onlyNew` | `false` | Return only articles not seen in previous runs |

```json
{
  "queries": ["openai", "\"electric vehicles\" -tesla"],
  "topics": ["TECHNOLOGY"],
  "language": "en-US",
  "country": "US",
  "timeRange": "1d",
  "onlyNew": true
}
```

### Output

```json
{
  "query": "tesla",
  "language": "en-US",
  "country": "US",
  "rank": 2,
  "title": "Your Tesla is probably vulnerable to hackers",
  "source": "Mashable",
  "sourceUrl": "https://mashable.com",
  "publishedAt": "2026-10-25T14:10:00.000Z",
  "articleUrl": "https://mashable.com/article/tesla-model-3-hack-key-fob",
  "googleNewsUrl": "https://news.google.com/rss/articles/CBMi...",
  "relatedArticles": [{ "title": "...", "source": "The Verge", "googleNewsUrl": "https://news.google.com/rss/articles/..." }],
  "scrapedAt": "2026-10-26T03:31:00.000Z"
}
```

### Set up a news alert

1. Enter your queries and enable **Only new articles**.
2. In Apify Console, create a **Schedule** (e.g. every hour).
3. Connect the dataset to **Slack, email, Google Sheets, Zapier, Make or n8n** through integrations or webhooks.

```python
from apify_client import ApifyClient
client = ApifyClient("<YOUR_API_TOKEN>")
run = client.actor("istmobot/google-news-scraper").call(run_input={"queries": ["nvidia"], "timeRange": "1d"})
for a in client.dataset(run["defaultDatasetId"]).iterate_items():
    print(a["publishedAt"], a["source"], a["title"], a["articleUrl"])
```

### FAQ

**How many articles per query?** Google News returns up to 100 per feed. Use more specific queries, time ranges or several editions for more.

**Does it get the article text?** It returns the real URL. Pair it with a content extractor if you need full text.

# Actor input Schema

Optional. Google News headline sections to scrape in addition to the queries.

## `language` (type: `string`):

Google News interface language, e.g. en-US, en-GB, es-419, es, pt-BR, fr, de, it, ja, hi.

## `country` (type: `string`):

Two-letter country edition, e.g. US, GB, IN, MX, ES, BR, DE, FR, JP.

## `timeRange` (type: `string`):

Only articles published in this window. Applies to search queries.

## `maxItemsPerQuery` (type: `integer`):

Google News returns up to 100 articles per feed.

## `decodeUrls` (type: `boolean`):

Convert the opaque news.google.com links into the publisher's real article URL (articleUrl).

## `onlyNew` (type: `boolean`):

Remember articles from previous runs and return only articles not seen before. Schedule the Actor to get a feed of fresh news for each query. You are only charged for new articles.

## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):

Google may rate-limit busy cloud IPs. The Actor retries on a fresh proxy IP.
