## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## RSS Feed Reader: Convert RSS, Atom & JSON Feed to JSON, CSV or Excel

**Paste a feed URL, or just a website URL, and get clean, normalized items. Feeds are auto-discovered, and the output includes full content, authors, images, podcast enclosures and categories.** An optional "only new items" mode turns it into a feed monitor for schedules, webhooks, Slack, Zapier or Make.

### Features

- **All formats**: RSS 2.0, RSS 1.0/RDF, Atom, JSON Feed 1.x, all mapped to one consistent schema
- **Feed auto-discovery**: give `https://blog.example.com` and it finds the feed via `<link rel="alternate">` or common paths (`/feed`, `/rss.xml`, `/atom.xml`, `/index.xml`…)
- **Full content**: HTML and plain text (`content:encoded`, Atom content), summary, word count, and the first image
- **Podcasts**: enclosures with URL, MIME type and length
- **Filters**: keywords and published-after date
- **Monitoring**: `onlyNewItems` remembers what it has already returned, so each scheduled run outputs only fresh items
- One failing feed never stops the others

### Input example

```json
{ "feedUrls": ["https://github.blog/feed/", "https://blog.apify.com"], "maxItemsPerFeed": 20, "onlyNewItems": true, "keywords": ["AI", "scraping"] }
```

### Output example

```json
{ "feedTitle": "The GitHub Blog", "feedUrl": "https://github.blog/feed/", "feedFormat": "rss", "title": "The bridge to agent-scale Git infrastructure",
  "link": "https://github.blog/engineering/...", "published": "2026-10-21T16:00:00.000Z", "author": "Eleanor White", "summary": "…", "contentText": "…", "wordCount": 1663,
  "categories": ["Engineering"], "image": null, "enclosures": [], "itemId": "3f1c…" }
```

### Pricing (pay per event)

**$0.0004 per feed item saved** ($0.40 per 1,000), with no start fee. Items removed by your filters or the "only new" mode are free.

### Use cases

News and competitor monitoring, content curation and newsletters, podcast catalogs, feeding LLM/RAG pipelines, and alerting on keywords across many blogs.

# Actor input Schema

## `feedUrls` (type: `array`):

RSS/Atom/JSON Feed URLs, or plain website URLs (the feed is auto-discovered from <link rel=alternate> or common paths like /feed).

## `maxItemsPerFeed` (type: `integer`):

Upper limit of items saved per feed.

## `onlyNewItems` (type: `boolean`):

Remember items seen in previous runs (stored in your named key-value store 'rss-feed-reader-state') and output only new ones. Ideal with Schedules.

## `stateKey` (type: `string`):

Separate 'seen items' memory per monitor when you run several schedules.

## `keywords` (type: `array`):

Only items whose title, summary or categories contain one of these (case-insensitive).

## `publishedAfter` (type: `string`):

ISO date, e.g. 2026-10-01. Items without a date are skipped when set.

## `includeContent` (type: `boolean`):

Include contentHtml and contentText fields.

  "includeContent": true
}

// Prepare Actor input
const input = {
    "feedUrls": [
        "https://github.blog/feed/",
        "https://blog.apify.com"
    ]
};

// Run the Actor and wait for it to finish
const run = await client.actor("iveeeeeen/rss-feed-reader-pro").call(input);

// Fetch and print Actor results from the run's dataset (if any)
console.log('Results from dataset');
console.log(`💾 Check your data here: https://console.apify.com/storage/datasets/${run.defaultDatasetId}`);
const { items } = await client.dataset(run.defaultDatasetId).listItems();
items.forEach((item) => {
