## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Website Contact Scraper

Paste a list of websites. Collect published emails, phone numbers and social links in one row per site. The `primaryEmail` field prioritizes addresses on the site's own domain.

### Pricing

**$1.00 per 1,000 pages scraped.** No tool subscription, start fee or add-ons. At 3 to 10 pages per site, 1,000 sites cost $3 to $10. Check your available Apify credit before running.

| Websites | Pages per site (cap) | Max cost |
|---|---|---|
| 100 | 10 | $1.00 |
| 1,000 | 10 | $10.00 |
| 10,000 | 5 | $50.00 |

You pay only for pages actually fetched. Redirects and duplicate pages are not charged twice. Set **Maximum pages for the whole run** to put a hard cap on spend. For comparison, the most used contact scraper in Apify Store charges $2.00 per 1,000 pages on the free plan plus a start fee (checked Nov 2026).

### Quick start

1. Click **Try for free** and paste your websites into **Start URLs**. Bare domains like `example.com` work. To paste hundreds at once, use **Bulk edit** or upload a text or CSV file.
2. Keep the defaults (link depth 1, up to 10 pages per site). The tool checks `/contact`, `/contact-us` and `/about` first.
3. Click **Start**. Download the results as CSV, Excel or JSON, or send them to Google Sheets, HubSpot, Make, Zapier or n8n.

### Example input

```json
{
  "startUrls": [{ "url": "https://basecamp.com" }, { "url": "gearpatrol.com" }],
  "maxDepth": 1,
  "maxRequestsPerStartUrl": 10
}
```

### Output

| Field | What you get |
|---|---|
| `primaryEmail` | Selected email for the site. Emails on the website's own domain are listed first |
| `emails` | Emails found in `mailto:` links, page text and page source, de-duplicated |
| `primaryPhone`, `phones` | Phones from `tel:` links |
| `phonesUncertain` | Phone-shaped numbers found in page text, kept separate so they do not pollute `phones` |
| `linkedIns`, `twitters`, `instagrams`, `facebooks`, `youtubes`, `tiktoks` | Social profile links |
| `pinterests`, `threads`, `discords`, `telegrams`, `whatsapps`, `reddits`, `githubs` | More profile links |
| `scrapedUrls`, `pagesScraped` | The pages that were checked |

Junk is filtered out: image file names that look like emails (`logo@2x.png`), placeholder addresses (`user@domain.com`, `you@example.com`), tracking addresses (Sentry, Wix) and share buttons.

Example output (one row per website):

```json
{
  "originalStartUrl": "https://www.gearpatrol.com",
  "domain": "gearpatrol.com",
  "pagesScraped": 7,
  "primaryEmail": "pitches@gearpatrol.com",
  "primaryPhone": null,
  "emails": ["pitches@gearpatrol.com", "sayhello@gearpatrol.com"],
  "phones": [],
  "instagrams": ["https://instagram.com/gearpatrol"],
  "youtubes": ["https://youtube.com/user/gearpatrol"],
  "tiktoks": ["https://tiktok.com/@gearpatrolofficial"],
  "scrapedUrls": ["https://www.gearpatrol.com/", "https://www.gearpatrol.com/contact/", "https://www.gearpatrol.com/about/", "..."]
}
```

This is real output from a test run on Nov 8, 2026 (4 websites, 28 pages, cost $0.028).

### Input options

| Field | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| `startUrls` | required | Websites to scan |
| `maxDepth` | 2 (prefilled 1) | How many links away from the home page to follow |
| `maxRequestsPerStartUrl` | 20 (prefilled 10) | Page cap per website |
| `maxRequests` | 1000 | Page cap for the whole run |
| `sameDomain` | true | Only follow links on the same domain |
| `mergeContacts` | true | One row per website. Set to false for one row per page |
| `proxyConfiguration` | none | Optional Apify Proxy for sites that block plain requests |

### API and integrations

```bash
curl -X POST "https://api.apify.com/v2/acts/johto.data~website-contact-scraper/run-sync-get-dataset-items?token=YOUR_TOKEN" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"startUrls":[{"url":"https://basecamp.com"}],"maxRequestsPerStartUrl":10}'
```

AI agents can call it through the [Apify MCP server](https://mcp.apify.com) as `johto.data/website-contact-scraper`.

### Use cases

- **Lead lists:** add emails and socials to a list of company websites from Google Maps, Yelp, a directory or a trade show exhibitor list.
- **CRM enrichment:** fill in missing contact emails and LinkedIn pages for accounts you already have.
- **Agencies:** find published contact emails for local businesses for research.
- **Influencer and partner research:** collect Instagram, TikTok and YouTube links from brand websites.

### Limits

**Do I need a proxy?** Usually not. Many sites can be fetched without one. Use a proxy only where the source permits automated access; do not use it to bypass a prohibition.

**Does it find emails behind JavaScript or contact forms?** No. It reads the HTML the server sends, using plain HTTP requests. Sites that only show an email after scripts run, or only offer a contact form, return fewer results.

**Why is a website missing an email?** Many sites only publish a contact form. The row still includes phones and social links when they exist, so you can reach the business another way.

**Can I scrape one row per page instead?** Yes, set `mergeContacts` to false.

### Use with AI agents and automation

**Apify MCP server (Claude, Cursor, ChatGPT, any MCP client).** Add `https://mcp.apify.com?tools=johto.data/website-contact-scraper` as a remote MCP server. The agent gets one tool that takes the input below and returns one row per website with `primaryEmail`, `emails`, `phones` and social links.

**API, one call.** Runs and returns the dataset in the same request:

```bash
curl -X POST "https://api.apify.com/v2/acts/johto.data~website-contact-scraper/run-sync-get-dataset-items?token=$APIFY_TOKEN" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"startUrls":[{"url":"https://basecamp.com"},{"url":"https://www.gearpatrol.com"}],"maxDepth":1,"maxRequestsPerStartUrl":10}'
```

**LangChain (Python).**

```python
from langchain_apify import ApifyActorsTool
tool = ApifyActorsTool("johto.data/website-contact-scraper")
```

**n8n, Make, Zapier.** Use the Apify app or node, choose **Run Actor**, enter `johto.data/website-contact-scraper` and paste the input JSON. Then map dataset fields into Sheets, a CRM or a database.

### FAQ

**How is this different from Contact Details Scraper?** Same job, one flat price: $0.001 per page, no start fee and no per-lead or per-social surcharge. The most used rival lists $0.002 per page plus a start fee on the free plan (checked Nov 8, 2026).

**How long does a run take?** The prefilled input (2 sites) finishes in about 5 seconds.

**Can I upload a CSV of domains?** Yes. Use **Bulk edit** on Start URLs or upload a text or CSV file. Bare domains work.

**Does it verify emails?** No. It returns addresses published on the site. Use a separate verifier if you need one.

### Responsible use

Use this tool only on websites you own or have permission to process. Check each site's terms, robots.txt and applicable content license before collecting or reusing its data. A public page is not a blanket permission to scrape, resell contacts or send marketing.

The tool reads public pages, not pages behind logins. Do not bypass access controls or use proxies to evade a source's prohibition. It does not guess email addresses or verify mailboxes.

Published business contact details can be personal data, including named email addresses, direct phone numbers and identifiable social profiles. You are responsible for a lawful basis, required privacy notices, retention and deletion, and compliance with applicable laws, including GDPR, PECR and CAN-SPAM. Check any data-broker obligations before selling or sharing compiled lists. Public availability is not consent.

This notice describes permitted use. It is not a claim that the parser can identify and exclude all personal information.

### Support

Open an issue in the **Issues** tab with the input URL and a description of the problem. Do not include API tokens or private data. Built and maintained by [Johto Data](https://johtodata.com).

# Actor input Schema

## `startUrls` (type: `array`):

Websites to scan. Paste full URLs or bare domains (example.com), or upload a text/CSV file with one URL per line. Each website gets one result row.

## `maxDepth` (type: `integer`):

How many links away from each start URL to follow. 0 scans only the start page (plus no extra pages).

## `maxRequestsPerStartUrl` (type: `integer`):

Page cap for each website. 10 is enough for most small business sites, because the Actor always checks /contact, /contact-us and /about first.

## `maxRequests` (type: `integer`):

Hard cap on pages for the whole run. You pay $0.001 per page, so 1,000 pages cost at most $1.00.

## `sameDomain` (type: `boolean`):

Only follow links on the same domain as the start URL.

## `mergeContacts` (type: `boolean`):

One row per start URL with all contacts merged. Turn off to get one row per page.

## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):

Optional. Most business websites work without a proxy.
