## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## SAM.gov Contract Opportunities: US Federal Tenders (Official)

Get US federal contract opportunities as clean JSON, from the **official public data file published by SAM.gov**. No API key, no login and no website scraping.

Each run reads SAM.gov's public Contract Opportunities file once, so there are no daily API quotas to manage. It covers about 70,000 active notices: solicitations, sources sought, presolicitations, special notices and award notices, across all federal agencies.

Use it to feed bid alerts, GovCon lead lists, CRM pipelines, market research or AI agents that need to answer "which federal agencies are buying X right now?".

| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
| `noticeType` | Current type of the notice. `baseType` is the type it started as |
| `department` / `subTier` / `office` | The buying agency, from top level to contracting office |
| `buyerCity` / `buyerState` | Location of the buying office |
| `naicsCode` / `pscCode` | Industry code and Product Service Code |
| `setAsideCode` / `setAside` | Small business set-aside. `null` when there is none |
| `deadline` | Response due date (`YYYY-MM-DD`). `deadlineAt` keeps the time and time zone as published |
| `status` | `open` (deadline today or later, UTC), `closed`, or `unknown` (no deadline in the notice) |
| `placeOfPerformance` | Where the work happens. Only the parts the agency filled in, and often empty |
| `awardNumber` / `awardDate` / `awardAmount` / `awardee` | Award details, where published. `awardee` is the company name only, with no address. It is `null` when the published text has no clear company word such as LLC or Inc. |
| `externalUrl` | Additional information link, where published |
| `description` | First 1,000 characters of the notice description |

Contracting officer names, emails and phone numbers are **not** included. See [Personal data](#personal-data).

### Input

| Field | Default | |
|---|---|---|
| `keywords` | none | Title or full description contains any keyword |
| `publishedWithinDays` | 3 | `0` = no date limit |
| `naicsCodes` | none | Prefix match: `5415` also finds `541511` |
| `setAsides` | none | Codes such as `SBA`, `8A`, `HZC`, `SDVOSBC`, `WOSB` |
| `noticeTypes` | all | For example `Solicitation` or `Sources Sought`. Amendments also match the type of the notice they change |
| `states` | none | Two-letter codes such as `VA`. See [Limitations](#limitations) |
| `statuses` | `open`, `unknown` | Add `closed` to include notices whose deadline has passed |
| `maxItems` | 300 | Newest first. You pay per result |

A run reads the whole file whatever your filters are, because the file is not sorted by date. A default run takes a few seconds. Schedule it daily with `publishedWithinDays: 1` to get each day's new notices.

### Limitations

- **Updated once a day.** SAM.gov refreshes the file once a day, so this is not a real-time feed. Notices posted today usually appear tomorrow.
- **Place of performance is often blank.** About two thirds of recent notices give no state for it. The `states` filter uses the state of the buying office for those notices, so a notice can match on where the office is rather than where the work happens. Check `placeOfPerformance` and `buyerState`.
- **Active notices only.** The file holds notices SAM.gov has not archived. It is not a full history.
- **No attachments.** Solicitation documents are on the notice page behind `url`.
- **Awards before April 4, 2022 are left out.** SAM.gov's terms limit commercial use of the D\&B data those records can contain.
- Always check the original notice before you bid. Not affiliated with SAM.gov, GSA or the US Government.

### Personal data

The source file has columns for contracting officer names, emails and phone numbers. This Actor never outputs them. Emails and phone numbers written inside description text are replaced with `[email removed]` and `[phone removed]`. Names written inside description text can't be detected reliably and may remain.

Awardees can be sole proprietors, so `awardee` keeps only names that carry a company word such as LLC or Inc., and never the address. A company name can still contain a person's name.

### Data source and attribution

Data comes from the public Contract Opportunities data file on [SAM.gov Data Services](https://sam.gov/data-services/Contract%20Opportunities?privacy=Public), the route SAM.gov's [terms of use](https://sam.gov/about/terms-of-use) name for automated data access. The Actor downloads that one file once per run and does not crawl the website.

SAM.gov is operated by the U.S. General Services Administration. Each item carries an `attribution` field, so you can keep the credit when you pass the data on.

# Actor input Schema

## `keywords` (type: `array`):

Keep notices whose title or full description contains any of these words, e.g. cybersecurity, janitorial. Case-insensitive. Leave empty for all notices.

## `publishedWithinDays` (type: `integer`):

Only notices posted in the last N days. 0 = no date limit. SAM.gov refreshes the file once a day, so the newest notices are from the day before.

## `naicsCodes` (type: `array`):

Optional. Prefix match: 5415 also finds 541511 and 541512. Notices without a NAICS code are dropped when you set this.

## `setAsides` (type: `array`):

Optional. Common codes: SBA (total small business), SBP (partial small business), 8A, 8AN, HZC, SDVOSBC, WOSB, EDWOSB, ISBEE. Notices with no set-aside are dropped when you set this.

## `noticeTypes` (type: `array`):

Optional. Leave empty for all types. Amendments also match the type of the notice they change.

## `states` (type: `array`):

Optional. Two-letter codes such as VA, TX, CA. Matches the place of performance. Most notices leave that blank, and those are matched on the state of the buying office instead.

## `statuses` (type: `array`):

open = response deadline today or later (UTC). closed = deadline passed. unknown = no deadline in the notice, which includes all award notices.

## `maxItems` (type: `integer`):

Newest first. You are charged per result.
