# bioRxiv & medRxiv Date Window Export (`jpmarketdata/biorxiv-medrxiv-date-window-export`) Actor

Export bioRxiv and medRxiv preprints by real posting-date window and category. Merge revisions by DOI, exclude tracked DOIs before billing, and return titles, abstracts, licenses and publication links with complete-window checks.

## Pricing

$1.00 / 1,000 unique literature record delivereds

This Actor is paid per event. You are not charged for the Apify platform usage, but only a fixed price for specific events.

## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## bioRxiv & medRxiv Date Window Export

Export all source preprint revisions in a bounded posting-date window, merge them by exact DOI, and exclude your already tracked DOI list before delivery and billing. Use this for recurring preprint discovery and systematic-review screening. Returns the highest version observed inside the window, not necessarily the latest version of all time. Preprints are not peer-reviewed evidence.

### Input

`servers`: biorxiv, medrxiv or both (default both). `startDate` and `endDate`: inclusive YYYY-MM-DD; omitted or empty values resolve to the previous UTC day, at most 31 days and no future dates. `category`: optional exact source category applied server-side. `excludedDois`: up to 1000 canonical DOI strings. `maxSafetyItems`: 1–1000 source revisions across selected servers, default 1000. All selected source records must fit before any delivery; refine the dates/category on refine-required. There is no Zotero, journal-RSS or open-Issue integration; pass your own DOI exclusion list.

### Output

One `type=preprint` row per exact DOI with title, scholarly author names, abstract when provided and licensed cc_by or cc0, source server, selected postedDate and version, observedVersions, category, license, source-reported publishedDoi, canonical sourceUrl and retrievedAt. Abstracts are omitted for all source licenses except cc_by and cc0; cc_no/NA is not an open license. Titles, DOI, author citation names, dates and category remain bibliographic metadata. No PDFs/full text are fetched. COVERAGE records raw revision totals per server, pages, exclusions, unique row count, complete selection and date/category echo. A DOI repeated across versions is billed once. Results preserve source enumeration order with latest-in-window content; they are not relevance ranked. If exclusion leaves zero rows, no-matching-results fails with uncharged COVERAGE.

### Limits and failures

Official lightweight JSON API, 256 MB, no credentials, proxy or paid services. At most 71 GET attempts including robots; sequential >=1 second pacing; 4 MB wire/decoded per response, 64 MB total transfer, 24 MB staged rows and 240 seconds acquisition. Current source uses 30 revisions/page. Before charging, validate every page's total, cursor, expected cardinality, date, server and DOI/version uniqueness. Block, rate limit, timeout, missing/malformed fields, moving totals, duplicate revisions and robots refusal fail explicitly with no successful partial dataset. Zero results fail no-matching-results; broad source windows fail refine-required. Both selected servers are required to succeed. Delivery has a separate 90-second deadline; the Actor cloud timeout setting is 360 seconds, covering the 240-second acquisition plus 90-second delivery phases with startup margin.

### Privacy and rights

Public scholarly author display names are retained for citations. Corresponding-author identity/contact/institution fields, emails, phone text, accounts and raw network bodies are excluded. Only documented api.biorxiv.org/details endpoints are fetched and robots.txt is checked at runtime. Source license codes are preserved; a blank or missing source license is marked `unknown` and its abstract is withheld. Authors retain copyright and source metadata is unaffiliated with this Actor. bioRxiv API documentation explicitly supplies metadata; content reuse rights vary by preprint. This Actor does not assess clinical eligibility or give treatment advice.

### Pricing

Pay per event: $0.001 per unique DOI actually delivered using the primary `record-delivered` event; no custom start charge or actor-defined free rows. Excluded DOIs and repeated revisions are uncharged. Private cloud runs verified one primary event per saved DOI with no additional charged events for the default, category/exclusion and maximum-load profiles. Platform compute charges may apply. In PPE, the Actor requires allowance for the entire selected deliverable before writing data, rechecks each batch and rejects undercharging. Non-PPE local runs save data and summaries without a charged event.

# Actor input Schema

## `servers` (type: `array`):

One or both exact source names: biorxiv and medrxiv. Duplicate names are removed before acquisition.

## `startDate` (type: `string`):

Inclusive YYYY-MM-DD. Omit or empty for the previous UTC day.

## `endDate` (type: `string`):

Inclusive YYYY-MM-DD. Omit or empty for the previous UTC day. At most 31 days.

## `category` (type: `string`):

Optional source category such as cell biology. Applied server-side to each selected server.

## `excludedDois` (type: `array`):

Up to 1000 exact DOI strings; skip them before delivery and billing. Supply your own Zotero/CRM DOI list; no external integration.

## `maxSafetyItems` (type: `integer`):

1–1000 source revisions across all servers before DOI merging/exclusions. Broader windows fail refine-required; results are never silently truncated.

You can run this Actor programmatically using our API. Below are code examples in JavaScript, Python, and CLI, as well as the OpenAPI specification and MCP server setup.

## JavaScript example

```javascript
import { ApifyClient } from 'apify-client';
// Initialize the ApifyClient with your Apify API token
// Replace the '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>' with your token
const client = new ApifyClient({
    token: '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>',
});
// Prepare Actor input
const input = {};
// Run the Actor and wait for it to finish
const run = await client.actor("jpmarketdata/biorxiv-medrxiv-date-window-export").call(input);
// Fetch and print Actor results from the run's dataset (if any)
console.log('Results from dataset');
console.log(`💾 Check your data here: https://console.apify.com/storage/datasets/${run.defaultDatasetId}`);
const { items } = await client.dataset(run.defaultDatasetId).listItems();
items.forEach((item) => {
