## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Goodreads Book Rating Momentum by URL

> **Unofficial** — independent tool, **not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Goodreads**. It reads only publicly visible pages. Support, reliability guarantees and the full disclaimer are at the bottom of this page.

For a known Goodreads book page, return its current public average rating and rating/review counts. Provide your own earlier counts to get signed changes ready for a publisher or retailer monitoring decision. A single snapshot makes no trend claim.

### Input

Supply one to three exact HTTPS `www.goodreads.com/book/show/<id>` page URLs in `bookUrls`. Optional `previousRatingCounts` and `previousReviewCounts` map those exact URLs to nonnegative integer baselines. No search keywords, arbitrary URLs, or review pages. Input order is preserved and duplicate URLs collapse. The default contains two known books. Goodreads may canonicalize an older edition URL to a newer book ID; `bookId` always names the validated canonical page.

### Output

One decision row per validated book. `ratingCountDelta` and `reviewCountDelta` are current minus supplied prior count and appear only for a supplied baseline. A negative delta can reflect source revisions; it is not a claim that readers removed ratings. No elapsed time or trend direction is invented. Example counts are illustrative and change at source.

### Limits

The Actor rechecks `robots.txt` at each run, allows only `/book/show/` pages, requests at most three books sequentially with two seconds between pages, and caps each response at 10 MiB and 30 seconds. It uses no proxy, browser, API key or paid data source. A 202/challenge, 403, 429, 404, redirect, timeout, oversized or malformed page fails explicitly. All selected pages are validated before any result delivery. The default memory is 256 MB.

### Privacy

Only the book title, numeric public rating/counts, optional caller baseline deltas, book IDs and provenance are returned. Review prose, reviewer identity, profile data, shelves, author biography, HTML and cookies are never exported.

### Pricing

One primary `book-momentum-created` paid event at $0.01 for each delivered decision row. No start or secondary charge. At most three rows cost $0.03; invalid input or source failure before delivery has no paid row.

Goodreads terms and current source access limits are documented in the dated scout under DR-0007.

### If something goes wrong

- **Wrong number or a failed run?** Open a ticket on the **Issues** tab. I read every one and reply within 2 business days (Japan time).
- **You never get a fake "empty" result.** If the site can't be read, the run fails and says so.
One validated book rating/count decision row delivered is one billable event. A source failure before delivery produces no paid row; earlier delivered rows remain billable after a later write failure.
- **Checked every week.** An automatic test runs this tool weekly; if the site changes, I fix it.
- **Public pages only.** No login, no personal data, and it goes easy on the site.
