## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Apple Podcasts Scraper: Search, Emails, RSS & Episodes

Build **podcast lists from Apple Podcasts** in minutes. Search by keyword and country, or paste Apple Podcasts links, and get one clean row per show: name, host/publisher, genres, episode count, latest release date, artwork, Apple link, RSS feed, **website, language and the owner's public contact email** from the show's RSS feed. Optionally add each show's newest episodes with title, date, duration, description and audio URL.

It uses Apple's **official iTunes Search API** plus each podcast's own public RSS feed. No login, no browser, no proxies, and it stays within Apple's rate limits automatically.

### What you get

- **Show details:** name, author/publisher, Apple ID, Apple Podcasts URL, primary genre and all genres, explicit flag, artwork (600×600), store country.
- **Activity:** episode count and latest release date from Apple, plus the real episode count and newest episode date from the feed.
- **Contact and outreach data:** owner name and **owner email** (`<itunes:owner>` in the RSS feed, when the show publishes it), website link, feed author and copyright.
- **Feed data:** language, description, categories, show type (episodic or serial).
- **Episodes (optional):** the newest N episodes with title, publish date, duration in seconds, audio URL and type, episode/season number, link and description.

### What people use it for

- **Podcast guest booking:** find active shows in your niche and get the host's contact email to pitch yourself or your client as a guest. Use **Only podcasts with an email** and **Active in the last N days** to get a ready-to-email list.
- **Sponsorship and ad sales:** build lists of shows by topic and country to pitch sponsorships, or find shows to advertise on.
- **PR and agencies:** map every podcast covering a topic for a campaign.
- **Market research:** count shows per genre or keyword, see how active they are, compare countries.
- **Content and data projects:** pull episode titles, dates and audio URLs for analysis or transcription pipelines.

A `SUMMARY` record in the run's key-value store shows how many shows the API returned, how many were saved, filtered out, or had a broken feed.

### Pricing

Pay per result: **$0.045 per podcast** (plus a tiny per-run start fee). Episodes are included in the podcast row at no extra charge. Filters such as **Only podcasts with an email** are applied before saving, so you pay only for shows you keep. Set **Max results** to cap your spend.

### FAQ

**How many podcasts can I get per keyword?** Apple's Search API returns at most 200 shows per keyword and country. For bigger lists, add more keywords (synonyms, sub-topics) or more countries in separate runs; duplicates are removed automatically within a run.

**Does every podcast have an email?** No. The email comes from the show's public RSS feed (`<itunes:owner>`), which most hosting platforms include but some shows hide. In our tests around 80% of shows listed one. Use **Only podcasts with an email** to keep just those.

**Is this data allowed to be used?** It's public data published by Apple's official API and by podcasters in their RSS feeds for directories to read. When you email hosts, follow anti-spam rules (CAN-SPAM, GDPR) and keep messages personal and relevant.

**Why is the episode count different from Apple's?** Apple counts every episode it has ever seen; many feeds only keep the newest few hundred. Both numbers are included (`episodeCount` and `feedEpisodeCount`).

**How fast is it?** Apple allows about 20 API calls per minute, and the actor stays under that. One search returns up to 200 shows, so a few keywords take seconds; RSS feeds are read in parallel.

### Use it with n8n, Make or Zapier

Use the Apify integration in n8n, Make or Zapier to send new podcasts straight to Google Sheets, Airtable, HubSpot or your outreach tool. Schedule a weekly run per keyword to catch newly launched shows.

# Actor input Schema

## `searchTerms` (type: `array`):

Find podcasts matching these keywords, one search per line, e.g. 'marketing', 'true crime' or 'saas founders'. Apple returns up to 200 shows per keyword and country.

## `podcastUrls` (type: `array`):

Look up specific shows by Apple Podcasts link (e.g. 'https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-daily/id1200361736') or by numeric ID ('1200361736').

## `country` (type: `string`):

Two-letter Apple Podcasts store country code, e.g. 'us', 'gb', 'de', 'ca', 'au', 'in'. Search results and rankings differ per country.

## `maxResultsPerSearch` (type: `integer`):

How many shows to take from each keyword search (Apple's maximum is 200).

## `fetchRssFeed` (type: `boolean`):

Open each podcast's public RSS feed to add the owner's contact email, website link, language, description, categories and real episode count. Turn off for a faster, Apple-data-only run.

## `maxEpisodesPerPodcast` (type: `integer`):

Add the newest N episodes of each show (title, date, duration, description, audio URL) inside the podcast row. 0 means no episodes. Needs 'Read RSS feed'.

## `onlyWithEmail` (type: `boolean`):

Keep only shows whose RSS feed lists a public owner email. Handy for guest-booking and sponsorship outreach lists. You pay only for rows saved.

## `activeWithinDays` (type: `integer`):

Keep only shows that released an episode within this many days, e.g. 90 to skip abandoned podcasts. Empty or 0 keeps all.

## `explicitFilter` (type: `string`):

Filter shows by Apple's explicit flag.

## `descriptionMaxLength` (type: `integer`):

Cut show and episode descriptions to this many characters to keep the dataset small.

## `maxItems` (type: `integer`):

Stop after this many podcasts in total. You only pay for podcasts you get.
