## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Shopify Apps Detector API

Find public app and service references on Shopify store homepages. Look for Recharge, Rebuy, Kustomer, Attentive, Klaviyo and other supported references. Each match includes evidence, such as a script URL or page selector.

This is a public-reference check. It does not verify that an app is installed, active, or paid. Missing references do not prove that an app is absent. Apps loaded only after JavaScript runs can be missing. This Actor does not run page JavaScript or access Shopify admin data.

### Price

**$0.008 per qualified Shopify store saved: $8 per 1,000 checks. No startup fee.**

A qualified store is a readable page with Shopify platform markers. **A qualified result with zero app references is charged.** Failed pages, non-Shopify pages, invalid URLs and skipped duplicate stores are free. No platform-usage surcharge is added.

Only qualified results enter the dataset. The free `RUN_SUMMARY` record lists failures, invalid inputs, duplicates, unprocessed URLs and the stop reason. Use a positive maximum-charge setting to cap result fees. A value of `0` can be treated as an unset limit by the platform. The platform can reject limits below one result price. Do not start a run if you do not want to allow a result fee. The Actor stops new work before the allowance is exhausted. Failed checks can consume time without producing a billable row.

| Qualified checks | Result fee |
| --- | ---: |
| 1 | $0.008 |
| 100 | $0.80 |
| 1,000 | $8.00 |

### Start a run

1. Enter store domains or URLs. A bare domain such as `rhodeskin.com` is accepted.
2. Set the maximum number of store checks. The default is 100; the maximum is 1,000.
3. Set the maximum run charge in Run options.
4. Run the Actor. Export the dataset as JSON, CSV or Excel. Open the run summary for skipped or unfinished inputs.

URLs are normalized to homepages. Paths, query strings and fragments are removed. Duplicate homepages are checked once. If multiple URLs resolve to the same detected Shopify store, only the first result is charged.

```json
{
  "urls": ["https://www.rhodeskin.com/", "https://www.allbirds.com/"],
  "maxStores": 2,
  "requestTimeoutSecs": 15,
  "maxRunTimeSecs": 300
}
```

The API also accepts direct `startUrls` objects with a `url` field. Remote URL-list files are not read.

### Output

One dataset row represents one qualified Shopify homepage check. `appNames` and `apps` are convenient export fields. `appReferences` contains categories and evidence. `appCount` counts public app or service reference labels. It is not an installed-app count.

Example fields from an Allbirds observation:

```json
{
  "url": "https://www.allbirds.com/",
  "finalUrl": "https://www.allbirds.com/",
  "status": "ok",
  "valid": true,
  "httpStatus": 200,
  "shopifyConfirmed": true,
  "shopifyDomain": "weareallbirds.myshopify.com",
  "appNames": ["Attentive"],
  "apps": "Attentive",
  "appCount": 1,
  "appReferences": [
    {
      "name": "Attentive",
      "categories": ["Personalisation"],
      "evidence": [
        {
          "type": "scriptSrc",
          "source": "https://cdn.attn.tv/allbirds/dtag.js",
          "sourceKinds": ["inline_script_loader"]
        }
      ]
    }
  ],
  "method": "public_html"
}
```

The full row also includes observation time, page title, coverage limits, document size and timing. Query parameters and fragments are removed from evidence URLs. Raw page HTML, script code and cookie values are not saved.

### API example

Use an Apify API token from your own account. Keep it in an environment variable.

```javascript
import { ApifyClient } from 'apify-client';
const client = new ApifyClient({ token: process.env.APIFY_TOKEN });
const run = await client.actor('jungle_cleric/shopify-app-detector').call(
  { urls: ['https://www.rhodeskin.com/'], maxStores: 1 },
  { memory: 512, timeout: 120, maxTotalChargeUsd: 0.008 }
);
const { items } = await client.dataset(run.defaultDatasetId).listItems();
const summary = await client.keyValueStore(run.defaultKeyValueStoreId)
  .getRecord('RUN_SUMMARY');
console.log(items);
console.log(summary?.value);
```

### Coverage and limits

The Actor reads public homepage HTML, script tags, static page markup and recognized Shopify script-loader URL lists. It parses loader syntax as data. It does not execute that code. Evidence shows a public reference; it does not show whether a script ran successfully or whether an app subscription is active.

Coverage differs by app, store layout and region. Headless stores can expose few or no supported app references. This is not a complete store technology inventory. It does not return private app installations, customer data, verified contacts, product catalogs or historical changes.

The network guard allows public HTTP and HTTPS destinations on standard ports. It checks each destination and redirect, rejects private or reserved addresses, and pins each connection to the checked address. Credentials in URLs are not supported. There is no proxy purchase or paid upstream detection API.

Each page has a 15-second wait limit by default, with a range of 5–30 seconds. The decoded page limit is 4 MB. The Actor follows at most five redirects. It stops after ten consecutive failed or non-Shopify checks. The default internal time budget is 300 seconds. The platform timeout can stop a run sooner. Unprocessed URLs remain in the summary for a later run. No schedule is created automatically.

### Common questions

**Does an empty app list mean that no apps are installed?**

No. It means this method found no supported public references on that homepage. A qualified Shopify check with an empty list is charged.

**Can I search for stores that use Recharge or Rebuy?**

Provide your store URL list, then filter `appNames` or `apps` in the results. This Actor does not supply or discover a global store database. Filtering does not change which qualified checks are billed.

**Are failed or non-Shopify checks charged?**

No. They are recorded in the free summary. Only qualified rows saved to the dataset create result fees. There is no startup fee.

**Is every detected label a Shopify App Store app?**

No. Some labels are analytics, privacy, payment or other services referenced by the page. Categories and evidence help you assess the match.
